There are several types of combs that are used in the care of children’s hair. What kind of comb to choose depends also on how many months or years your baby.
A newborn baby will need these combs:
Soft comb-brush for the baby. It is not so much a hairbrush, how many the massage brush more reminding a brush for clothes.
As a rule, it has a natural bristle, or a very soft synthetic bristle, which does not irritate or scratch the delicate scalp. It is worth using it even if your baby’s hair is very sparse or completely absent.
Combing this massage brush improves blood circulation in the baby’s scalp and stimulates the hair follicles, accelerating the growth of the baby’s first hair.
Scallop (for crusts, if any). With it, gradually comb the crust, which is formed on the head of the child.
The teeth of this comb, designed for the very smallest, should not be sharp or very long.
When the child grows up, it is necessary to add several more types to the arsenal of children’s hairbrushes:
Massage brush. They are round and semicircular, with rare and frequent teeth.
A brush with sparse wooden teeth is good for fine curly hair, it will put children’s curls in order without damaging them. Brush with nylon bristles come in handy when a child gets thick, thick hair.
Round brushes, usually called brushing, do not require babies – they are usually used for styling hair with a hair dryer. Not for children’s hair and “skeletal” combs, which are also called “fish bone”.
Such combs differ widely spaced teeth and holes in the base. They are suitable for combing wet hair and are also designed to facilitate styling with a hair dryer.
As for fashionable comb with ionization function, their effect on the body is not yet fully understood, so even adults are advised to use them with caution. For a baby, this device is not recommended at all.
Choosing a massage brush, you should pay attention to the degree of its softness. It helps to determine this test: you need to press the teeth to the skin on the wrist, and if you feel unpleasant painful sensations, it is better not to buy this comb for the child.
The touch of the teeth should be noticeable, but not painful.
Crest. They are also very different, with different frequency of teeth and from different materials.
Combs are good for taking care of short baby hair. With the help of frequent ridges you can unravel the tips of the strands.
However, it is necessary to use the accessory carefully, do not comb them with curls from the roots, so as not to pull the hair out of the bulbs.
Choosing a comb for a child who is already one year old, pay attention to its safety and convenience, because the kid at this age can, in imitation of the mother, try to look after the hair on her own. Prefer models with round knobs, as a child with a pointed hand can injure your child.
The diameter of the handle is important, it should fit in the children’s palm. The comb of the soft rounded form for the kid is ideal.
Any combs have their advantages and disadvantages, depending on what material they are made of.
The advantages of wooden combs:
- do not electrify even thin hair
- do not break the hair structure (thanks to this, the tips do not split)
- possess useful properties
For example, brushes and combs of juniper, sandalwood and Siberian cedar have an antiseptic effect. Combs from these varieties of wood soothe the scalp for irritations.
Oak combs relieve tension and static electricity. Combs made of birch prevent dandruff.
Important! In order not to lose the valuable qualities of wooden combs, do not buy painted or polished combs.
At the same time, make sure that the wooden comb is absolutely smooth and the child has no chance of injury. If the tree has split and the material is cracked, feel free to throw away the damaged accessory.
Cons of wooden combs:
- the teeth of wooden combs are often very sharp.
True, many manufacturers began to produce models whose pins are topped with balls at the ends. There are also comb with plastic teeth, painted “under the tree.”
Therefore, before buying carefully check the material.
- wood (especially pine) quickly loses its attractive appearance.
Already after the first wash the wooden hairbrush darkens. A dirty brush or comb can cause a fungal infection.
- It is difficult to care for a wooden comb.
The wooden comb should be kept away from heat sources as the wood cracks, forming cracks that can harm the hair structure. Wash a wooden comb with cool water, as warm water will lead to swelling and deformation of the wood.
And after washing it must be thoroughly dried, because otherwise, in addition to deformation, damp wood may become fertile ground for bacteria and microbes.
Pros of natural bristle combs:
- The villi of such a massage brush are flexible, they do not hurt the hair
- does not contain toxic substances, and therefore safe for the health of the baby
Cons of natural wood combs:
- may cause allergies
- not suitable for greasy hair.
A comb made of natural bristle is categorically not suitable for owners of greasy hair, because with the help of natural bristle, fat from the roots spreads along the entire length of the strands.
- not combing curly lush hair too well
Important! Sometimes it is difficult to distinguish natural bristles from synthetic ones.
In this case, note the color: natural villi are most often unevenly colored.
Advantages of combs with synthetic bristles:
- artificial bristle massage comb has protective balls at the ends of the teeth
- easy to clean and hygienic
Minuses of a hairbrush with an artificial bristle:
- electrifies the hair (the exception is a comb with nylon bristles).
Pros comb from plastic, silicone or carbon:
- easy to clean, durable
- usually the most affordable
Cons of plastic, silicone or carbon comb:
- electrify and injure hair, and therefore not suitable for daily care.
The pros of a metal comb:
- does not require special care, durable.
Cons of a metal comb:
- injures hair
- can hurt the scalp, and therefore not suitable for children.
A metal comb or comb is not suitable for a child. Such combs can harm a baby, especially if used on its own.
In addition, metal combs are often very thin long handles, contraindicated for children.
If strands are difficult to comb in the morning, take a look at the special comb for matted hair: Hair Bean, Wetty, Tangle Teezer and others. These are plastic comb-brushes with soft short teeth, arranged in a specific order, and in some cases still having different heights.
Due to this comb comb hair elastic, untangling the strands along the entire length.
A massage brush with mixed bristles will help. She has natural teeth supplemented with a synthetic “undercoat”.
Such a design during combing massages the scalp and improves blood circulation and nutrition of the hair follicles, stimulating the growth of new hair.
If you want the strands to continue to curl beautifully, use a comb with rare teeth. And if you want to straighten your hair slightly, then comb the strands with a massage brush with frequent teeth – such a dense effect will help to tame the violent curls.
Always remove hairs from comb after combing. In addition, combs should be washed regularly.
What strategy to choose depends on the material of the child’s comb.
The easiest way to care for nylon scallops and brushes, they are just soaked for 10-15 minutes in a soap solution, and then rinsed.
Wooden combs are much more capricious. It is absolutely impossible to soak them: they instantly absorb moisture and soap.
They are better to rinse in running water.
The comb from natural or synthetic bristles can be washed in a self-prepared solution: in a liter of warm water, mix a tablespoon of baby shampoo and as much vinegar. Hold the comb in this tool for 10 minutes, then rinse.
Remember that natural bristles require thorough drying in order not to become a breeding ground for bacteria and fungi.
