Opportunity time: 4–6 weeks after birth
Council According to pediatricians, during this period the mother has already established lactation, but the child is still ready to “take” the bottle.
Having missed the gracious moment, it is much more difficult to retrain a baby. But some mothers are worried that, taking a bottle, the crumb will refuse from the breast, because the milk is flowing and the child does not need to exert any effort, hard to suck, as if breastfeeding. However, fears are in vain!
Today, you can buy physiological bottles with nozzles that repeat the shape of a female nipple, due to which the rate of milk supply is small and the baby has to “work hard” to get full, as with breastfeeding. And the child calmly takes both the breast and the bottle.
However, sometimes the “acquaintance” is not so smooth. The child turns, kicks, aggressively demanding the breast.
No need to force. Postpone the attempt for 3-4 days and then repeat again – until the child gets used.
Sometimes it helps out when someone else gives the bottle to the baby: the presence and smell of the mother are reminiscent of breastfeeding to some children. Well, if daddy spends bottle-feeding, it will bring him closer to the baby.
Opportunity time: baby 7–9 months
Council With the advent of the first teeth – at 6, 7, 8 months – dentists are advised to give the child the first cup and say goodbye to the bottle. The fact is that long-term bottle feeding with milk mixtures or juices provokes the appearance of “bottle caries”.
Milk during feeding accumulates on the teeth and promotes the formation of organic acids, impaired acid-base balance in the mouth. As a result, the minerals that make up the enamel begin to leach out.
This leads to damage to the enamel and the appearance of carious cavities. That is why it is so important to refuse the bottle in time.
Moreover, at this age, the child may already firmly squeeze a mug in his hands and bring it to his mouth.
At first, be sure to demonstrate to the toddler how to use a mug, and then pour some milk or juice into a cup and, holding it to the child’s lips, lightly moisten them with a tasty drink and give a small sip. In the next feeding – help sip a couple more sips.
And so gradually teach the kid “drinking technique” from the cup.
The next stage is to give the drinker a do-it-yourself attempt. Better with two handles – for convenience.
Liquid in the glass should be no more than one-third, at first – a thick consistency (jelly, kefir). Mom can gently hold the crumb by the elbows and guide the handles.
Opportunity time: 7–8 months
Council Our grandmothers and mothers added cereals to the milk mixtures, and the supplements were introduced already from 2–3 months.
But modern research shows that it is not worth hurrying with food, especially not including solid food in the diet before 6–7 months.
It is important to focus on the signs of the child’s “readiness” and follow the recommendations of the doctors. After 4 months, fruit and vegetable purees are introduced, then cereals, dairy products, meat purees.
But when the baby has the first teeth, the crumb can sit upright with her mother’s support, begin to “taste” various objects and show a lively interest in adult food – it will be time for pieces that train the chewing muscles. Each new product is introduced separately, gradually accustoming the baby to an unusual consistency.
First, the pieces should be no more than 1.5 mm, then 2 mm, and after a year – 3-4 mm.
Only by making sure that the baby is well adapted to one product, you can enter another – in 5-7 days. Otherwise, when an allergic reaction occurs, it will be difficult to determine what caused it.
With the introduction of new products should be postponed if the child is sick or he was given a prophylactic vaccine.
Opportunity time: baby 12–20 months
Council Using a pacifier, on the one hand, makes life much easier for the mother – it is much easier to calm the child. On the other hand, it threatens the formation of an abnormal bite.
Nevertheless, for many parents, nipples are real salvation! In addition, many babies with a pacifier satisfy the increased sucking reflex.
If such a child is not given a pacifier, he will begin to suck his fingers. However, after a year, experts strongly recommend to remove the nipples away. The “fascination” with a dummy impedes normal speech development and, as already mentioned, provokes a violation of bite.
Sharply abandoning the nipples is fraught with – this can lead to the appearance of neurosis: the child will begin to gnaw toys, suck fingers, collars shirts. Therefore, for the beginning it is worth leaving a pacifier “to sleep”, and after 2 years, finally say goodbye to the nipple. Arrange a “farewell party” for the soothers, gathering them in a box decorated with the baby, sing a song and say goodbye to them forever.
Or offer the toddler to give the nipples of the fairy to the pacifiers, and as a reward for each of them, hand a little surprise from the sorceress.
