The list of necessary things for baby swimming can vary depending on the child’s age: up to about 8 months, the baby, although splashing in water, is always in the hands of the mother (father), so, for example, he doesn’t need the sleeves. But starting from 8 months, when the connection between the child and the parent is already quite close (early swimming helps just to establish it), inflatable circles and sleeves are used.
1. Pampers for swimming
Our rating is headed by diapers for swimming. Yes, it can happen with absolutely any baby, and yours is no exception.
If you do not want to burden yourself with the constant purchase of such diapers, we advise you to buy reusable ones: it will be cheaper and more economical. Swim diapers differ from ordinary diapers in that their top layer is waterproof.
They do not swell in water, as they do not absorb it (and, accordingly, urine too), and they can be washed (this applies to the reusable option). Tightness is achieved by gum, which fit snugly to the skin of the baby. But do not worry – they are made of soft material and will not rub the legs.
The main thing – to buy diapers in size, as they should fit snugly to the body in order to avoid embarrassment. And from the top you can wear regular swimming trunks.
2. Swimming trunks for swimming
This option is suitable for older children who are already accustomed to the pot. Here, too, the most important thing is to choose the right size: less will be rubbed, more may be slipping.
In general, for the first swim, choose everything as comfortable as possible, since the child gets into a completely unusual environment for himself – a large amount of water can frighten him, and then there are some inconvenient swimming trunks.
3. Swimming cap
This hat is suitable for older children: those who are already confidently holding the head and are not afraid of water. Basically, it does not require pools. There is a need for it, if your daughter has long hair: then, for reasons of hygiene and in order that the pool filter does not become clogged with hair, the child will be asked to wear a hat.
There are three types of swimming caps: textile, rubberized outside and textile inside, as well as silicone. The best option is the second: such hats do not get wet, and are comfortable (they do not crush, they do not pinch the hair when they are tightened). The first option (textile hats) is considered by many to be meaningless, since the hair still becomes wet.
They are needed only to ensure that the pool filter does not become clogged. Silicone hats, of course, do not get wet, but they put a lot of pressure on the child’s head.
So rubberized outside and fabric inside the cap – the most suitable option. These are sold, for example, in Decathlon.
4. Baby bathing cap
Grudnichkov swimming recommended to engage not earlier than the 2nd week of life. Since at this age the children still do not hold the head, you can use a special cap with foam plastic that holds the baby’s head above the water.
Of course, you have to support the baby, but the presence of such a cap will greatly simplify your task. How she looks like?
It is a cap, on the sides and on top of which foam bars are inserted into special pockets, which help the head to stay above the water.
When buying hats, pay attention to the fabric: do not buy very bright (it can shed) and made of pure synthetics. Pick up the cotton option.
During the swim the water can still get into the ears, since the cap is not tight, so watch it carefully. After bathing the cap must be dried, taking foam from the pockets.
And this design looks very fun: your baby becomes like a little sun or a daisy.
5. Circle for bathing a newborn
This differs from the usual bathing circle in that it is worn around the neck of the child so that its head is above the surface of the water.
When buying, pay attention to the reliability of fasteners, which fix a circle on the neck: the child should not be able to unfasten them. The ideal option is a combination of velcro and carabiner.
Why the combination? The carabiner can weaken from the active movements of the child, and the velcro can accidentally touch and unfasten, therefore, for security reasons, choose the “universal” circle. Modern options are complemented by various bells and whistles: rattles, wings, fins.
And if the last little one doesn’t pay attention, rattles can make him nervous or even frighten.
If you choose between a cap with foam and a circle, which is better? Each parent answers this question himself. There is no “better” or “worse.”
Some people like to hold the baby in their arms, to feel tactile contact – then the cap is probably preferable. And if you want to watch the child more, without “climbing” into the water, without leaning over the tot and not straining your back – choose a circle.
But no matter how tricked he is, in no case do not leave the baby unattended! You can sit side by side, talk, read fairy tales to him, but never leave “for a minute.” Another plus of the circle is the health benefits.
Since the baby’s body is “in free swimming”, the hypertonicity of muscles decreases, and neurological processes return to normal.
After some time, your little swimmer will begin to roll over in a circle and try to swim (although, of course, it’s difficult to call it swimming). Do not worry, early muscle development is very useful: infants who are involved in swimming, before peers begin to sit and walk.
The sleeves are suitable for children from the year when they already understand that the pens should be kept tight so as not to go under the body. There is no need to hurry: ideally, you should attach the child to the sleeves when he has already mastered the circle. But there is an opposite opinion: from the age of 6 months, you can slowly accustom the baby to a new adaptation for him.
This is done to develop the vestibular apparatus and the muscles of the back and shoulder girdle. However, it is impossible to let the child “float free”.
It is necessary to be close to him, because, despite the different opinions, arm ruffles are a thing for adult kids.
The first time going to the pool can turn into stress for both you and your child. To smooth the baby’s reaction to an unfamiliar environment, make him not worry, we advise you, first of all, be patient, and secondly … toys. But not new, but his favorite, those with whom he plays in the bathroom.
If the child has not yet lost the soother, grab her too – believe me, this will save your nerves.
8. Dressing gown or towel
It is necessary to provide the child with the most comfortable conditions, even similar to home ones, during his first trips to the pool. To do this, do not forget to grab a soft towel, in which you will wrap up your child after a workout, and even better – a children’s robe.
In the children’s clothing stores now you can find a lot of beautiful cozy and warm options.
Where do without it! We all know that after playing sports really want to eat.
Kids are no exception. After classes, many mothers are amazed at the good appetite of their always capricious children.
Therefore, do not be lazy to take a few cookies with you (if you have already started feeding), baby puree in a jar or dried fruit.
