Weakness, nausea, loss of appetite – the memories caused by this word can not be called pleasant. Nevertheless, future mothers sometimes even rejoice at such phenomena, considering them to be a sign that birth will be easy.

In fact, the described symptoms do not affect the outcome of childbirth, and toxicosis is not. Doctors consider them a natural adaptation of the organism to a new position and changes in the hormonal background. Authentic toxicosis – the situation is much more severe: attacks of vomiting more than 2 times a day, lack of appetite, weight loss of more than 2 kg, dehydration of the body, deviations from the norm in urine and blood tests.

If adaptable malaise does not usually harm the health of the future baby, then toxicosis, seriously worsening the condition of the woman’s whole body, may pose a threat to pregnancy, and therefore requires hospital treatment.

In soap operas, pregnant heroines faint almost in every episode, but in life this phenomenon is much more rare – and alarming. Dizziness and loss of consciousness occur in expectant mothers due to changes in the cardiovascular system: blood vessels dilate under the action of the hormone progesterone, their tone decreases, and with it blood pressure. Its sudden fall can lead to the fact that the blood supply to the brain will deteriorate sharply, causing a temporary loss of consciousness – a faint.

In contrast to small dizziness due to a change in body position, fatigue or stuffiness, syncope is considered a pathology. Expectant mother will need treatment and complete rest.

Fortunately, such situations are typical only for the first months of waiting – in the second half, pressure comes to the usual level that was observed before pregnancy.

Among the common misconceptions is the idea that pregnancy lasts 9 months. Even midwives determine its duration approximately: they calculate the estimated date of birth by adding 280 calendar days, or 40 weeks, to the last menstruation date.

It is impossible to determine the date of birth of a baby more precisely: after all, in fact, a normal pregnancy can last from 37 to 41 weeks. But American obstetricians have made adjustments even in this conditional range: due to changes in ecology and lifestyle, pregnancy has lengthened, and 300 days, that is, 42 weeks, are now considered the norm in the USA.

Contrary to popular belief, not all expectant mothers want to eat chalk, absorb salted cucumbers in banks and interfere with strawberries and herring. A change in eating habits can indeed occur while the baby is waiting – this is one of the first subjective signs of pregnancy that a woman herself feels.

It is caused by the fact that the emerging fruit takes a large amount of vitamins and minerals, and the need for the most popular of them increases dramatically. Especially actively the future child spends calcium, sodium, iodine, folic acid (vitamin B9), vitamin E (tocopherol). Calcium deficiency in women can cause an irresistible desire to eat chalk or lime, sodium – craving for salty, iodine – for fish and sea kale, vitamins E and B9 – for greens.

Vitamin and mineral preparations help restore balance. But much more often, psychological factors are not so much behind the unexpected whims of appetite, because the desire to eat strawberries at 3 am (and, most importantly, get my husband to go to the store!) Is the need of the brain, not the stomach.

Going in the middle of the night in search of strawberries is not the most difficult of tests that future mothers sometimes arrange for their loved ones. This is because, under the influence of hormonal adjustment, the processes of excitation and inhibition in the cortex and subcortical structures of the brain can fail. Because of this, the woman becomes nervous, capricious, whiny.

But this is not always the case, because the difficulties during pregnancy often relate to weakened, vulnerable parts of the body (“where it is thin, it breaks there”). Therefore, the probability of problems is higher in those women who, before pregnancy, have already experienced migraine, neurosis, sleep disorders. The main healers in this situation are time and rest.

By the second trimester, the hormonal background and the work of the nervous system are debugged, the adaptation of the body to pregnancy is completed, and the woman behaves much calmer.

“Pregnant cretinism”, which is feared by husbands and employers, is in fact not very common and, most importantly, short-lived phenomenon, again caused by adaptation processes of the first trimester. The above-mentioned surge in the hormone progesterone and a decrease in vascular tone leads not so much to “stupidity”, but rather to a decrease in the reaction and some inhibition. All this is a manifestation of the mechanism of pregnancy protection inherent in the woman’s genes, the priority of which is set immediately after conception.

By the middle of waiting, activity usually returns. And on the contrary, it inspires some women to think about the upcoming birth of a baby, and they spend all 9 months very fruitful.

“One son, one tooth”, our grandmothers sighed. Nowadays, expectant mothers can be threatened only if their dental problems have bothered them before and were not solved in time.

Pregnancy itself does not cause dental diseases, but accelerates their development. One of the reasons is the increased consumption of calcium in the second half of waiting, the deficit of which can be especially great if, before conception, a woman ate few dairy products or was zealous with diets.

In addition, during pregnancy, saliva decreases the amount of lysozyme enzyme that breaks down the walls of bacteria; they begin to actively reproduce in the oral cavity, and the risk of caries increases. Doctors’ advice is simple: try to cure your teeth before conception; during pregnancy there are enough dairy products or taking vitamin and mineral preparations, visit the dentist in the first trimester and, if necessary, undergo the prescribed treatment.

Pregnancy paints a woman – most future dads are sure of this (no matter how much their wife sighs in front of the mirror). A woman becomes especially good in the second trimester of pregnancy, when the ailments of the first months recede, the condition of the skin improves under the influence of hormones, the hair becomes thicker, the breast increases, and the small tummy serves only as a piquant decoration. If you take care of yourself from the very beginning of pregnancy, you will be able to prevent many of the problems of appearance that women fear.

The prejudices that pregnant women should not use cosmetics, dye their hair and nails, and in general visit beauty salons so as not to breathe “chemistry” there, are long gone. Chosen with the help of specialists cosmetics and exercise will help reduce the risk of stretch marks, cellulite, deterioration of the breast, vascular “stars”.

So, universal prevention of all these problems is swimming. It will strengthen muscles, increase skin tone, improve blood circulation, relieve the spine.
