What is the name and what feeds the mosquito larva

Mosquito “scions” are known to virtually all aquarium holders who care for their fish and buy food for them. Already after a few days, the mosquito larva emerges from the eggs that the female lays.

Many are interested in its appearance, distinctive features of behavior, nutrition and other features.

Mosquito larvae – fish food popular with aquarists

The larva of the mosquito is called moth. Their color may vary depending on the particular species.. In particular:

  • Komar-piskun possesses brown or black larvae.
  • A malaria mosquito usually has kids in a green shade.
  • The bell is red.

Such creatures originate from mosquito eggs, which are deposited directly in the water. Most often this occurs in water bodies, puddles of large sizes or holes with rain water.

At the time of birth, the size of the larvae usually does not exceed 2 millimeters, over time they can increase to 1 centimeter. They have 2 eyes, and a special tube is placed on the ring of the trunk, through which the process of their breathing is carried out.

In addition, throughout the body of the individual bristles are placed, thanks to which it can move in the water, they are called swimming hairs.

In an effort to breathe, they settle, lifting their tails up, on the surface of the reservoir, after absorbing oxygen, the larvae set off on a further journey. Although water is their natural habitat for them, they can dive for a short time, at a depth of able to spend no more than 15 minutes, then the available supply of air dries out.

The mosquito is in the larvae stage within 4 weeks, the duration is related to weather conditions of the environment. During this period, the creature repeatedly molts and significantly increases in size.

The temperature required for the development of the larvae varies from 10 to 35 degrees, the best indicator is between 25 and 30 degrees. In parallel with the length, the weight of the creature increases, in accordance with the available data for the month, it becomes 500 times larger.

The mosquito larva feeds mainly on microorganisms in the reservoir, that is, the most primitive algae and decomposing substances of organic origin. In order to provide power, this creature filters out 1 liter of water for a day.

Pupa formation becomes a further stage of development., which is already a more complex natural creature.

Mosquitoes save a lot of future offspring, as the larvae often die. This most often occurs due to the following reasons:

  • bad weather conditions, unstable air temperature;
  • their absorption by the inhabitants of water bodies, amphibians and fish, for which they act as the main source of food;
  • unfavorable environmental situation, for example, due to water pollution or the presence of oil film, which makes it impossible for them to fully breathe.

However, the disappearance of these creatures is quickly replenished, because the mosquito females are extremely prolific, and people can’t hope that the number of this population will decrease.

There are a number of varieties of such creatures, differing both in appearance, body structure, and behavior. You can mention:

    Malaria mosquitoes.

    They have a large head, large breasts, and the belly consists of several components. But, unlike other variants of mosquitoes, they do not have a breathing tube, but there are special spiracles located in one of the segments present on the sides.

    They live on the surface of the water, always trying to keep parallel to it. For feeding, they brush the smallest organisms with brushes and send them to their own mouth.

Malaria mosquitoes live on the surface of the water
Mosquito-dergunov, also called bellies. This species is considered the most common, it is used by fishermen as a profit, and owners of the aquarium feed their pets with such creatures. Crank, as the call larvae are called, is sold in the respective stores either fresh or frozen, constantly taking advantage of considerable demand.

The bells have a bright red color, the size of their larvae can reach 3 centimeters. They live at the bottom of reservoirs, where they find food for themselves, but periodically they tend to float to the surface for the purpose of breathing.

As food they absorb the remains of plants. Immediately after hatching, the larvae are gray, but soon become red due to the high level of hemoglobin.

They also have salivary glands, with the help of which they create for themselves a safe house from nearby rubbish, and it is he who further protects them from enemies.

Mosquitoes of the centipede lay larvae in the marshland

  • Burning mosquitoes that live near the forest. They have special tufts of hair, which are located at the base of the body.
  • Dolgozhek, the larvae of which usually appear on wetlands. Their development proceeds in a swamp environment, and outwardly they resemble the usual gray-brown worms. The head of the centipede is large, and at the end of the body there is an orifice in the shape of a star.
  • Pedicion This species is characterized by so-called false legs, with the help of which they move along the bottom of a reservoir. There may be up to 10 of these legs. These creatures are able to survive in a situation of extremely polluted water due to the presence of gill appendages.
  • Kusak, which is one of the most numerous species of mosquito population. Initially, this species lived only in the African region, but now they can often be found in any country, besides, they act as carriers of dangerous diseases, such as dengue or yellow fever.
