Hello, dear subscribers and readers Aquablog. The topic of today’s article will be called “Paludarium”. I think every novice aquarist has heard such an interesting word, and some have no idea what this thing is.
In today’s article I will try to answer all questions relating to the paludarium.
In general, translated from Latin, “palyudarium” stands for a swamp, or rather, an aquarium with a swamp. Drawing an analogy with the meaning of the term, we can conclude the following character: paludarium means an artificial site of a natural biotope in which a person grows marsh plants. Why is this format biotope popular among aquaquimists?
I now have to answer this question.
I think we all know that the greatest concentration of different types of living organisms focuses on habitat boundaries, that is, biocenoses. The waters near the surface are richer in wildlife than the deep areas; the top layer of our soil is also richer in life than subsoil and so on.
Are you watching the trend? So, the aquarium is located on the border of two environments: air and water, it is obvious.
But paludarium is located on the border of three environments: water, earth and air.
What do we have with this demagogy? And we have the fact that in the case of an artificial biotope in the form of paludarium, we can choose more species of living organisms than for the aquarium. In such a biotope we can put both insects and reptiles, and plants generally have a separate conversation.
From plants we can choose both moisture-loving plants and near-water plants. In addition, among the representatives of hydrophytes there are many specimens that bloom very beautifully and feel better in such a biotope.
Here is a simple example: the aquarium plants of cryptocoryne and lagenander in the paludarium will grow much better than in your home aquarium. A lot of quite problematic long-stem or plants with special requirements, with full or partial immersion in water, significantly stop their growth.
Some submerged Anubias cannot provide you with the beauty that can be achieved from the bush in the paludarium.
I think every aquarist has heard of such a thing as “acclimatization of aquarium plants” under the conditions of another chemical. composition, in contrast to where the grass was removed. Cryptocorynes transfer this acclimatization is generally very painful, and sometimes, it seems, a healthy shrub of cryptocorynes can wither away because God knows.
However, in the paludarium things of this nature will not, the plants are better accustomed to new conditions of detention. I do not try to dissuade you from aquarism with similar speeches, I just consider another version of your hobbies 🙂
By appointment and device, paludariums may be different. Some paludariums are made only for decorative purposes, aesthetically complementing the interior of the hearth.
Thus, a person achieves the revival of his home with a piece of nature. And some biotopes are created exclusively for practical purposes.
Someone wanted to devote his extra time to breeding aquarium plants for sale. There is someone you like.
At the present time with such a level of technical progress that we have, it is possible to create paludariums of fantastic complexity. In such biotopes there may be the following gadgets: an automatic system for maintaining a constant temperature, controlling light and applying fertilizers, maintaining a given level of humidity. However, despite this variety of equipment and equipment, the classic version of the paludarium, in which “amphibious plants” are grown, remains popular.
Far from everyone wants to create an aesthetic composition in his home just for beauty’s sake. Basically, our goals are more pragmatic 🙂
That’s all for today. I hope you understand for yourself what paludarium is?
It was a review article on this topic. Some other time I will try to tell you more datas how to arrange palyudarium at home.
