Practically every aquarist in practice has a moment when they have to restart the aquarium. My words can confirm almost every experienced aquarist. There can be several reasons for restarting, and the event itself is almost identical to the first launch, with the exception of some points.
The only inconvenience of this moment is that you have to kill a lot of time in order to “reanimate” your aquarium again.
In many old aquarium sources, you may encounter the conviction that every aquarium should undergo a periodic restart. Time frames are set depending on the volume and then, this is all not accurate.
Remember one simple truth – no periodicity exists.
There are quite a few supporters of this theory today. They argue their position by the fact that it doesn’t matter what state the reservoir is in, it is necessary to periodically arrange general cleaning and cleaning of everything and everything.
The opponents of this theory are convinced that if an aquarist observes all the conditions of keeping plants and fish, then the aquarium should function without any failures and unplanned restarts. Sudden restarts should be done only in those cases if the situation does not tolerate.
Restart aquariums in the following cases, which do not tolerate delay:
- Strong turbidity of the water, algal flash, which are not eliminated by large water changes and active filtration;
- When souring aquarium soil, when cleaning or changing it is not possible when the aquarium is running;
- The massive death of fish as a result of diseases caused by parasites, etc .;
- If you need to change the internal design of the aquarium;
- In the event of a breakdown, which resulted in a leak. In this case, it is desirable to restart the aquarium very quickly.
Where to put fish, scenery, plants and other utensils?
First you need to identify the fish. If the old water in the aquarium is not spoiled, then it can be used to fill a temporary pet house.
After transplanting fish you will have to regularly monitor their condition.
If the water from the aquarium is not suitable for the barge, then it is necessary to fill in the deflated tap water into the aquarium. If it is possible to get distilled water, feel free to add. If there is a problem with distillate, then it is possible as an option to use water passed through a reverse osmosis system, it costs a penny.
After filling the tank with water, it is necessary to install a heater there.
Alternatively, if you use separated water, you can add a Tetra air conditioner called Aquasafe to the aquarium. In the pre-prepared container water is poured, designed to run, which is defended within 8 hours.
Aquarium plants must be transferred to a separate vessel, from where they are not available throughout the restart. Only when you get them out of the ground, be careful not to damage the root system.
When all hydrophytes are removed, you can proceed to the removal of the soil, which is thoroughly washed under running water and roasted in an oven for 30 minutes at a temperature of 200 degrees. All other decorations can be washed thoroughly in salt water.
When the pot is empty, you can proceed directly to the wash. The aquarium is washed with warm water (with soda), the main thing is not to use chemical cleaners and detergents.
Glasses are wiped with a soft cloth to dryness and you can begin to fix the breakage, if it is the purpose of your restart. When everything is ready, you need to check for tightness of the aquarium, filling it with water to the top and let it stand for a couple of hours.
If all is well, drain the water.
The principle of launching is simple and painfully familiar: we lay the washed and treated aquarium soil and fill in the separated water with a layer of 15 to 20 centimeters from the ground level. When you fill the water, substitute a plate under the water stream so as not to erode the soil, and feed the water in a weak stream.
Plants need to be washed with warm water and planted in the substrate, and after that you can install decorative elements.
When the aquarium design is finished, it’s time to install aquarium equipment. If you have operated the bottom filter before restarting, then it should be installed in the aquarium before laying the soil, and the filter must be washed in case of urgent need. When everything is ready, add water to the full volume and run the fish after the water has reached the optimum temperature.
The first few days after the launch of the aquarium carefully monitor the condition of the inhabitants and the state of the plants. The first week after the launch is recommended to make water changes in the amount of 10% of the volume.
Restarting the aquarium as a result of massive fish death due to illness
It does not matter for what reasons, in your tank began to hurt and die fish. First you need to catch all the fish with symptoms of the disease and transplant them into quarantine, which is poured settled water. When the appropriate temperature regime is reached, you can proceed to the treatment of fish.
Do I need to change the water or disinfect the aquarium? If the disease is infectious, disinfection must be carried out.
If the cause of mass death lies in parasites, then disinfection is useless, you need to destroy the parasites themselves.
You should understand that when you remove all fish and other animals from the aquarium, the parasites will die in time, because the parasites do not live long without a carrier. It is not recommended to interfere in natural processes on every occasion and give the aquarium time to take a breather for 15 days and make in it a water change of 40 to 80% of the total amount, and also remember to clean the filter.
All this time, the heater in the aquarium can not be turned off and the temperature should be kept around the mark of 25 degrees. When you treat all the animals, the fish can be transplanted back into the general aquarium.
The process itself is quite laborious, especially the aquarist has a lot of headaches, if the causative agents of plant or fish diseases have settled en masse in the soil, scenery, and water plants have been struck. The fish must immediately be transplanted to quarantine, where you will conduct their subsequent treatment.
Any remaining aquarium accessories must undergo a total disinfection. In the aquarium you need to pour water in which the detergent is dissolved based on the ratio of 400 grams of powder to 30 liters of water.
The inner walls of the aquarium and the bottom are well washed, and then washed several times with warm water. Next, you need to fill the aquarium with clean water and let it stand in this form for a day, and then drain it.
In some aquarium sources, it is recommended to use “Whiteness” for disinfection, which can also be used to decorate the decor elements.
If the plants did not die as a result of the outbreak of the disease, they are disinfected with penicillin solution. The recommended proportion of drug solution should be: 50 mg of the drug per 10 liters of water. This operation should be carried out in a separate aquarium with a water temperature of 25 degrees during the week.
In the process of treatment, the addition of a penicillin solution and water changes are done every day.
Some aquarists during disinfection of the aquarium often get rid of the soil and fall asleep in the new jar. If you want to leave the old substrate, it is first carefully washed from mechanical suspensions, and then calcined in an oven for half an hour.
And finally, here are a couple of useful videos to restart the aquarium.
