Properly assemble an aquarium is not as easy as it sounds. At first, it may seem that all components of the ecosystem function normally, but within two weeks the algae will fill the space, the fish will acquire a painful appearance, and the plants will fade.
The reasons for this may be many, but most likely, the whole thing is in violation of the technology of launching the aquarium. Step-by-step instructions from scratch help avoid this.
Getting the aquarium right isn’t easy
Before starting the aquarium for the first time, it is better to make sure that all components are prepared and awaiting installation. For convenience, you can create a checklist with all the necessary equipment. A standard novice set should include:
- Aquarium. It is advisable to choose a model of large or medium size, as they are more convenient to maintain the necessary parameters.
- Priming. Should ensure the normal circulation of water to avoid stagnation and the appearance of harmful bacteria. Pebbles, coarse sand and gravel are perfect for this. It is advisable to avoid calcium and limestone based substrates.
The soil must ensure the normal circulation of water.
After all items from the list are purchased, you can safely proceed to launch.

Before you fill the soil in the aquarium, it must be rinsed without fail. Many beginners do it wrong or forget about it at all.
As a result, after adding water from the soil, dust and debris rises, which do not settle for several days. In addition, trash can contain toxic chemicals as well as harmful bacteria.
Preparation of the aquarium to run the fish – the most crucial stage
Before you start the aquarium from scratch, you need to fill the soil in a bucket and fill it with water. It is necessary to wash pebbles very carefully, actively mixing everything with your hands. After a few minutes you need to drain the dirty water.
Repeat the process about 4−5 times until the water becomes more transparent.
In some cases, the soil may not be completely leached. There is nothing terrible in this, since small and silt substrates will naturally settle in the aquarium over time.
It is necessary to fill up the cleared gravel slowly and best of all in small parts. This will help prevent damage to the bottom of the aquarium.
Then the ground should be smoothed with hands to create a smooth base with a thickness of at least 3-5 cm.
It is recommended to form a small slope from the back of the tank to the front. This gives the aquarium a good perspective and greater depth of perception.
It is necessary to pour water into the aquarium slowly, so that dust does not rise
To fill the aquarium with water is best with a hose. However, it is not critical to use a small bucket for this.
The main thing – to pour water slowly, so as not to raise dust from the bottom.
If you use fake water for filling, you need to take a dechlorinator for purification. In the future, the device will save a lot of time during the change of water.
The filter, as one of the important components of the normal functioning of the environment, requires special attention during the launch. There are a few highlights that you should pay attention to before installing it:
- Gently clean the filter sponge under the tap or in a bowl. Since sponges are stored in a warehouse or store, they contain dust and debris that contaminate the aquarium.
- It does not hurt to wipe the filter housing itself.
- Place the sponge back into the aquarium filter. If it is an external device, you will need to manually fill the tank with water to start it.
After preparing the filter, it can be attached to the aquarium. If there is a power regulator on the device, it is advisable to “drive out” it at the maximum the first day.
A good choice is a heater that fits comfortably into an aquarium. For heating a large volume of water it is recommended to use two devices. Pre-prepare the heater is not necessary, you can only wipe it with a damp cloth before immersion in water.
You can also check it for any violations in the integrity of the shell.
To install the heater you just need to attach it to the Velcro to the glass. It is advisable to choose a place where there will be a good flow of water and the lowest visibility.
After that you can turn it on. The recommended temperature for a typical aquarium is 23–27 degrees Celsius.
While the heating element is active, the light usually comes on – this will help in the process of heating cycling.
