How to disinfect an aquarium :: how to process an aquarium :: Care and education

The need for complete disinfection aquarium infrequently, but still sometimes comes. And it is not necessary to have obvious infectious diseases in your fish – the aquarium should be sanitized when new tenants enter there, even if the previous ones are fine.

It may be hidden infections that do not touch healthy fish, but can be activated, for example, during stress.

The question “How does a little girl retrain to go to the tray (she is 4 months old)? “- 3 answers

  • Disinfectant;
  • UV lamp (if any);
  • Pan for boiling the soil (if there is such a need).

1. The easiest way is to process aquarium hot water, ideally boiling water. In this case, all microbes and microorganisms will die. Be careful: the temperature of the water should be increased smoothly so that the glass does not crack.

But this method is only suitable for seamless aquariums and structures with hard glue – it looks similar to ceramics. If the glass is planted on a soft silicone sealant, it will become soft from the hot water and the aquarium may start to leak, and the glued tank may fall apart altogether.

2. Another effective way is a strong disinfector. You can treat the aquarium with a powerful liquid cleaner or chlorine-containing solution. But after processing, the aquarium should be thoroughly rinsed, as even small residues of cleaning substance can destroy the fish.

Ideally, the aquarium should be thoroughly rinsed several times, then filled with water, allowed to stand for a day and then rinsed again.

3. Also for disinfection aquarium hydrogen peroxide can be used. It acts weaker than the previous versions, but is safer.

Of course, the aquarium will have to be washed with water, but not so intensively.

4. For processing aquarium You can use ordinary salt. First make a slurry of salt and water and use a soft sponge to clean the glass and seams.

Then fill the aquarium with water, add salt at the rate of 1 teaspoon per liter of water and leave for a couple of hours. Then drain the water and rinse the aquarium thoroughly – salt is harmful for many fish species, and for some it is deadly.

5. Another method of disinfection that can be applied even to aquarium plants without the risk of destroying them is manganese. Make a medium pink solution and rinse the aquarium by wiping it with a soft sponge from the inside. Then wash the aquarium with water.

Plants for disinfection should be put for 10-15 minutes in a solution of potassium permanganate. Do not overdo it with the concentration – there is a risk to burn the plants and stain the glass with a brown coating.

6. There is a drug that can disinfect the aquarium, even with fish – methylene blue. It has bactericidal and fungicidal properties, but is practically harmless to living organisms.

The drug is available in the form of drops, for disinfection it is necessary to dilute it in a ratio of 2 ml per 10 liters of water. The only downside is painting everything blue.

7. There is another soft method of disinfection that does not harm plants and fish – the UV lamp. This option can be used both independently and in combination with the above.

Using a lamp is simple: use it for several days instead of the usual lamp.

8. When the need for disinfection aquarium, the question arises: what to do with the ground. The most effective way is to boil.

In this case, all microbes die with one hundred percent probability.

If the fish were sick, but you cured them – still disinfect the aquarium. The infection may be in a latent state and sooner or later manifest itself.

Be sure to ask your family or friends to help you, it is very difficult to manage it alone even with a small aquarium.

Do not forget that the aquarium is a real home for fish. He, like the human home, needs cleaning.

If a person can provide himself with cleaning often, then this luxury is not available for fish, so the owner should be engaged in disinfecting the aquarium and monitoring the condition of their pets. Many people know about it, but not everyone knows how to disinfect an aquarium correctly.

In the event that the aquarium is already functioning, but a nuisance has happened and various bacteria and algae have begun to appear in it, then disinfection cannot be avoided. It is urgent to save plants and fish from there.

All the fauna that was in the infected aquarium should be treated with an antibacterial solution. The most popular is a mixture of 10 mg of penacilin per 2 liters of water. Soak plants in it for about 3 days.

Do not be afraid, nothing terrible will happen to plants during this time. The aquarium itself can be disinfected with a special bactericidal lamp every day for 20 minutes.

Aquarium disinfection is necessary even if there are no visible problems. Preventive measures are the best way to maintain the health of fish and other inhabitants.

The next disinfection begins with a disinfecting treatment of all surfaces. The simplest available tools are potassium permanganate and peroxide.

Remove from there all the fish and decor, then fill to the edge with 3% peroxide or dark solution of potassium permanganate. Leave everything for 5-6 hours.

After that, thoroughly rinse all surfaces and corners.

If so much time to wait there is neither time nor desire, then you can use the express method. Buy a special solution at the pet store that is designed to disinfect all surfaces.

Remember to wear gloves before handling. If you have the opportunity to process all formalin, chloramine, hydrochloric acid – then use this option.

To disinfect plants, it is necessary to prepare a penicillin solution in a ratio of 10: 2. Leave all the plants there for about three days.

The most common means are:

These tools can wipe the plants just one time, this will be enough to kill the pathogenic sphere. Sell these funds in pet pharmacies.

The rest of the inventory should be boiled. For fidelity, keep them in boiling water for at least 20 minutes. The more time they spend in boiling water, the less chance the bacteria will survive.

Note, rubber, plastic and thermometers can not be boiled in any case.

Choose the most convenient way for yourself and enjoy the view of a beautiful, healthy aquarium with happy fish.

In order to carry out a complete disinfection of the aquarium and equipment, you first need to decide on the solution that will be used to treat all surfaces. The simplest and most readily available is hydrogen peroxide solution or potassium permanganate.

The aquarium is filled to the brim with a 3% solution and left to stand for 4-5 hours or washed with a high concentration agent. Hydrogen peroxide is an excellent disinfectant because it has the ability to completely decompose; however, the decay products are not dangerous for fish.

But remember that it can damage human skin, so disinfection of an aquarium should be carried out only with gloves and glasses. A light solution of chloramine, formalin, bleach and hydrochloric acid will also perfectly clean the aquarium.
