Good day, dear colleagues. We continue to study the most common questions on aquarism, in particular, today we will consider the issues of diagnosing diseases in aquarium fish.
Question number 1 – The rooster has a swollen belly, and scales are tousled. What is it and how to treat it?
An abdominal bloating in aquarium fish can signal several rather serious diseases – sanguinic olea, ichthyophonosis and mycobacteriosis. Unfortunately, treatment for such diseases has not yet been developed.
However, abdominal distention may still indicate that a fish has a cyst of the genital glands, a swimming bladder or obesity of the internal organs. If only one fish has such a symptom, then there is no cause for concern, but if you have a massive tendency in the aquarium, then it’s time to sound the alarm and determine the reasons. Most likely, the aquarium was struck by some kind of infection or invasive disease.
Unfortunately, accurate diagnoses can be made in ichthyopathological laboratories.
Question number 2 – Fishes began to actively scratched sides of plants and decorative elements. With what it can be connected?
Scratching fish about the elements of decorations and plants can speak volumes. Most likely, the skin of the fish is affected by parasites or in your tank a sour environment. In the case of parasites, you can help your pets by organizing a treatment procedure with the antibiotic Bicillin-5 or trypaflavine in an aquarium.
Some fish, especially live bears, calmly tolerate table salt. To create therapeutic baths, 20 g of salt are used per 10 liters of water in a separate container at a temperature of 30–31 degrees, with enhanced aeration throughout the week.
There are cases when it is possible to get rid of parasites by using a banal increase in water temperature up to 33 degrees and increased aeration. In addition, every day, parasite cysts must be removed from the soil during the treatment week.
If scratching is triggered by an acidic medium, then you need to clean the aquarium from organic residues and other dirt and change the water in the aquarium a couple of times. These simple activities will reduce the acidity of the water in the aquarium and the fish will stop itching.
Question number 3 – My gourams appeared a small sore on the side. What should be done?
The causes of ulcers on the body of the fish can be different, it can be both curable and non-curable diseases. To establish an accurate diagnosis, the fish must be sent to the laboratory.
If a peptic ulcer develops, dark spots are formed on the body of the fish, which soon turn into ulcers. This disease is treated with antibiotic bicillin-5.
However, the success of treatment will depend directly on the conditions of detention and the degree of damage to the fish.
Bicillin-5 must be added to the aquarium water throughout the week. The temperature of the water in the aquarium should be increased to 27 degrees, just do not forget about aeration.
The drug must be introduced into the water before night, as it decomposes quickly in the daytime. After making the drug in the water during the day, the aquarium should be shaded for a couple of hours.
The appearance of ulcers on the body in labyrinths is promoted by mycobacteriosis and ichthyophonosis. Both of these diseases are incurable. In addition to ulcers on the body of the fish, the fins can collapse and the spreading of the scales is observed.
In this case, the fish are inactive and hold on for a long time in one place. In some cases, they can move around the aquarium with jerks, the color turns pale, the body is depleted, and the fish stop taking food.
If you find such symptoms in fish, then it is better to remove the fish from the aquarium and flush it down the toilet, and the equipment and the aquarium should be well sanitized.
Question number 4 – My young swordtails have spinal spines, how to fix it?
Most likely in young swordtail scoliosis. Unfortunately, it has not yet been possible to establish the true cause of the formation of this disease, only an assumption.
Some aquarists claim that the cause of spinal curvature is a lack of mineral salts in the body and a poor oxygen regime. Others argue that the spines are bent due to improper feeding of females (mostly dry food).
Third experts are convinced that the curvature of the spines is formed as a result of closely related breeding of fish, which leads to various defects and deviations from the norm.
Question number 5 – On the body of a goldfish appeared white fluff on the body, what is it?
A whitish-gray bloom resembling cotton wool or fluff is a parasitic fungus that causes the development of the disease saprolegniosis. As a rule, fish that have previously suffered another disease are susceptible to this disease, and their immunity is greatly weakened.
In addition, saprolegnosis can develop as a result of improper keeping and keeping of fish at low temperatures (up to 20 degrees).
Quite often, the fungus settles in places where the skin of the fish has been broken. This may be injuries received earlier as a result of keeping in an aquarium or during transportation from a pet shop to a home aquarium.
In aquariums, where the fish appeared, affected by saprolegnia, the water temperature rises to the optimum values, and the fish are given therapeutic baths in water taken from the main aquarium. Drugs must be selected taking into account the sensitivity of each type of fish to a specific drug.
Question number 6 – the color of the body of my fish is very pale and upon closer examination I saw a scattering of white dots in the form of semolina. What it is?
The appearance of “decoys” on the body of aquarium fish allows the aquarist to assume that aquatic organisms are affected by the simplest parasites. This symptom immediately suggests that the fish have one of the following diseases: bone disease, ichthyophenthiosis, odinosis, chylodonellosis.
Unfortunately, without a microscope, you can not determine the causative agent of the disease. How to treat each disease, you can learn from the following materials:
If you do not have the opportunity to purchase foreign drugs, then old friends bicillin-5 basic purple, trypaflavin, malachite green come to the rescue. Dyes can be used both individually and in a mixture. The drug must be added to the aquarium water to weak staining.
The water temperature at the same time rises to the maximum allowable for a particular type of fish that you keep in your home aquarium. Pathogens can get into your aquarium from a natural pond with food that you harvested with your own hands, or when sharing new fish from a pet store.
To prevent such incidents from occurring, purchased fish must be kept in quarantine, and the plants should be immersed in a weakly pink solution of potassium permanganate for 15 minutes in order to disinfect.
