Crucian in aquarium content

maintenance, care, compatibility

We all used to observe in the aquarium the life of exotic fish with bright colors and ornate fins. But the aquarium in which ordinary crucians live looks truly unusual.

The ones who live in each pond and are caught by fishermen. Few people will visit the idea, catching a fish, instead of frying or letting go, leave it as a pet. And those who did it can be envied, because crucians not only decorate the house, but also bring a lot of positive emotions to the hosts and guests.

In addition, their content in the aquarium will not cause trouble even to a novice.

There are two types of crucians: gold and silver. Both species live in stagnant ponds or rivers with weak currents.

Ordinary or gold (Carassius carassius) in natural conditions reaches a length of 50 cm. It has a short body, compressed laterally, rounded in the front part and stretched closer to the tail. Golden scales, and under certain lighting, cast a bronze and red.

Most often this species is found in dense thickets of ponds, lakes among mud and silt. It is unpretentious to oxygen deficiency and low water temperatures.

Silver (Carassius auratus gibelio) has a more elongated oval body shape and differs from the golden color. Its sides are silvery, the back is dark gray.

Such fish can be found not only in standing bodies of water, but also in low-flowing rivers.

See how great crucians get along with other fish.

In nature, representatives of this species are able to endure rather harsh conditions. Based on this, we can conclude that creating a suitable microclimate for them in captivity will not be difficult.

The content does not require much time and material costs.

So, the most important thing is the volume of water. It must be at least 100 liters. The temperature in the aquarium may be room temperature; additional heating is not required. If in the winter time it is artificial to create a cooler mode (about 8 ° C), then the crucian will fall into winter “hibernation”.

Considering the large volume of water being treated, it is necessary to choose a powerful filtration system with aeration (internal, external filters and aquarium compressor for air supply).

The choice of soil does not matter, you can be guided by aesthetic views. It is desirable to choose vegetation thick, with hard leaves, because in nature crucians are used to living in mud and thickets. Lighting is enough so that you can freely communicate with your pets and carefully examine them.

Of course, it must be suitable for the life of algae. Care of the aquarium is to clean it in a timely manner and to replace part of the water weekly (at least 20% of the volume).

Absolutely any fish food is suitable for food: bloodworm, shaker, dry food. Also in the menu you can include snails, moldy worm, earthworm, meat, vegetable food.

The appetite of fish is excellent, so it is better to adhere to the regime, and feed them once a day. Overeating leads to increased water pollution by waste.

It should be noted that in the winter, in the wild, crucians do not consume feed. If you plan to lower the temperature of the water in winter, then care will be even easier.

How to grow fish for slaughter in an aquarium :: Breeding

The success of the entire enterprise depends on the correctly chosen breed of fish that you plan to breed. The choice of fish for breeding depends mainly on the size of the aquarium.

British Pregnancy Question – 1 Response

Carp is the most common fish for breeding in ponds and aquariums. The popularity of carp is associated with a large number of valuable biological features and convenient economic qualities.

According to the variety of scales, there are 4 types of carps: mirror, scaly, leathery and mirror-linearly naked. A separate species is domesticated koi carps.

Carp is superior to many freshwater fish in omnivorous, endurance and growth rate. He is very unpretentious to the conditions of detention and easily adapts to the change of any factors.

Carps are very prolific, so an aquarium is very big for them. The female can sweep more than 1 million eggs with a own weight of 5-8 kg.

Fertility is associated with conditions of detention, and the better they are, the higher the fecundity. It is a large fish and in good conditions the carp can reach a mass of 25 kg with a length of more than a meter.

You should not wait for this in an aquarium, but it is better not to keep this fish in crowded places.

Golden carp is another very hardy fish that adapts to any environment. Able to survive in cramped conditions, in conditions of acute lack of oxygen.

He likes very silted standing ponds in nature, the aquarium with him must be filled with plants. Rare cases suggest that it can grow up to 3 kg, but most often the mass does not exceed 500-600 g, and in an aquarium it is worth counting on 200-300.

When breeding, you can cross with other species of fish, for example, with carp.

Silver carp, as well as gold, is unpretentious to the living conditions, but its size is even smaller, and the weight does not exceed 400 g. It crosses successfully when breeding with carp and gold carp.

Most often, the choice of fish for breeding in an aquarium stops on carps – scaly or koi. According to legend, the domestication of carp occurred in Persia.
Koi are often found even in small aquariums of apartments, as they are unpretentious, and their colors are very diverse, there are about 14 types of color. There are red, blue, yellow and orange koi, not counting a variety of spotty.
The best environment for breeding any fish for slaughter is a reservoir in which conditions are close to natural, but carps, thanks to their endurance, can be successfully bred in spacious aquariums. The aquarium should have all the necessary equipment for filtering and aerating the water, and the water should be changed weekly.

For carp, it is important that at the bottom of the aquarium was a primer covering it completely. You can replace the soil on the sand or pebbles.

Sterlet (Acipenser ruthenus) is the strongest sturgeon fish of the cartilaginous family. In the aquarium, it does not reach such an impressive view.

Sturgeon maintenance at home is possible in a large aquarium with a volume of 200 liters, with mandatory aeration and water filtration. The sturgeon, which is contained as a decorative aquarium, looks very attractive in crystal clear water, it has a beautiful body shape.

The nature of the fish is active due to the constant release of mucus on the skin – only during swimming it is completely washed off.

For sturgeon it is important to be in clean water, with constant parameters. Therefore, the filtration and aeration system in the aquarium should meet all the requirements for keeping fish.

Filter capacity – 6 volumes per hour. The best option – to build an aquarium with running water, in which there will be no plants.

The sturgeon due to the peculiarities of its body (the presence of thorns) is easily entangled in vegetation, which can end in death.

Rough plates of bone tissue retain fish in the plant, due to which the sturgeon cannot swim further. As a result, the aquarium fish begins to fuss, fight, hurting his spine.

The best decorations in aquarium for sturgeons are smooth stones. Grottoes, caves and labyrinths are not recommended.

Also, they do not need to install a heating system.

The required water temperature in the aquarium: 15-20 degrees Celsius, acidity – pH 6.5-8.5, water hardness 6-25 dGH.

The sturgeon is a predator, therefore in an aquarium it should be fed with live food, sometimes with fish. Loves insects and mollusks. They have a small mouth in which there is not a single tooth.

Sterlet can be fed with bloodworms, earthworms, tubers, enhitray, beef meat. The oral apparatus is designed so that the fish feeds from the bottom.

Look at the sturgeon in the aquarium.

Freshwater sturgeon can be kept together with river fish: shell pike, arvanas, chain catfish, other sturgeon fish. They can not settle with small fish (which will eat) and with very large, which will deprive them of food.

To add neighbors to it, you need an aquarium of at least 500 liters.

Once a week you need to update 20% of the water from the total volume of the tank. The sturgeon lives in exclusively pure water where there are no impurity of ammonia, nitrites, nitrates and heavy organic substances.

When growing up, the sturgeon grows dull, therefore the young aquarium fish should be of a bright color.
