Small aquariums (mini aquariums) are very common today. Going into any pet store you can see glass bowls from 3 liters and small square cans of 10, 15 and 20 liters, all this is good and is a mini aquarium. Typically, small aquariums attract attention because they take up little space, are cheap and have a built-in filter, pump and lighting.
At first glance it seems that with such an aquarium there is very little hassle, just poured in water, put the fish in, and then you can admire the beauty. But is it really? …
If you do not have a small aquarium up to 50 liters and you are only going to buy it, we warn you: DO NOT DO THIS, saving on the cost of the aquarium you will spend a lot of energy on maintaining and maintaining it in the right way, they require much more maintenance than large aquariums, all processes in small aquariums occur very quickly and need to monitor him more often, because a small deviation in the bio balance of the aquarium can lead to spoilage of water and the death of the fish, and in the future only the disappointment of the content of the aquarium fish in a small aquarium will remain.
If you have already bought an aquarium, then we will give a few tips that will help you not to “launch” it to such an extent that a massive sea of fish will begin, because to care for a small aquarium, you need to know a lot of subtleties.
Water filtration. Usually the filter comes with a scarlet aquarium, i.e. built in.
The performance of this filtering is very low. Over time, colonies of beneficial bacteria form in the filter material, which process ammonia in water and prevent the fish from being poisoned.
In a small filter, the bacteria do not have time to multiply due to the fact that the filter is quickly contaminated and it has to be washed frequently. That is why it is necessary to prevent the ingress of large amounts of ammonia into the water and any organic matter that cannot be processed without a large number of beneficial bacteria. To do this, in no case can not overpopulate a small aquarium, in theory it may be (volume 10-30 liters) one small fish or several very small.
Make sure that all food is eaten by fish in 3-5 minutes, after this time, remove the remnants of food, if any. Compliance with these two simple rules will help maintain the purity of the water and its biobalance in a more acceptable state.
Maintain a constant temperature. If the size of your tank allows – purchase a heater for the tank, it will help maintain the temperature at a given level, heating more (provided that the ambient temperature is lower than required). If the size of the aquarium does not allow – then set it in a place where the temperature changes slightly throughout the day.
This is necessary in view of the fact that water in small aquariums can cool down and heat up very quickly, and a quick temperature change of even 2 degrees has a very negative effect on the health of fish.
Regular water changes. In a small aquarium, water must be replaced several times more often than in a large one.
It is recommended at least once a week to replace 25% of the water.
Feeding the fish is carried out 2 times a day in small portions so that the feed does not accidentally stay in the aquarium and spoil the water in which the biobalance has normalized.
As you can see, when you keep a small aquarium, you need to perform the same actions as when you keep a large one, only DOWNLOADER, so think a few times before buying a mini aquarium in your house, because the maintenance of fish should be fun, not solid chores and worries!
