Aquarium Water Heating: Heaters Overview

Aquarium fish, like you and I, can feel comfortable only at a certain temperature. If the temperature is too high or low, then the fish become lethargic, stop feeding and may even die.

The same goes for aquarium plants. Therefore, it is very important to maintain the optimum water temperature in the aquarium.

Many people believe that the fish in the aquarium is at room temperature; 20-22 degrees C. If only small fish of temperate latitudes live in your aquarium, then maybe they will adapt to this temperature, but if it falls even a degree or two more, irreparable things can happen.

So keeping the water temperature in aqua at a notoriously comfortable level for fish you insure yourself in case of a sudden drop in temperature in your house, because if the water temperature drops 1-2 degrees below comfortable, it is not as bad as 1-2 degrees below critically low.

Currently on the market there are devices to maintain a constant temperature, combining a heater and a thermostat, called thermostats. They are a glass flask (recently appeared in a metal flask) within which there is a heating element and a thermostat. By setting the temperature on this thermostat once, it will always be kept at the same level (provided that the temperature around the aquarium is lower).

This glass bulb is attached to the wall of the aquarium, so along with it it is useful to use a water filter that will mix the water well and distribute the temperature throughout the aquarium.

In this regard, some companies produce water filters with integrated heater.

Another type of heater is a cable in the form of a spiral and is placed at the bottom. This heater must be filled with soil.

The advantages of such a heater are that the water can not be mixed because hot streams independently rise to the upper layers and cold ones sink to the bottom. It also heats the soil where the roots of the plants are located, which is why the growth of the plants is markedly accelerated.

It was a brief overview of the most common types of heaters for the aquarium, which one of them to buy – just choose you.
