Aquarium plants are all for beginners with photos and video
And finally, a few words about artificial aquarium plants. Once they are sold, once I buy them, it means they have a place to be in our reservoirs. No trouble with them at all – I buried a plastic bush and admire!
The benefits of such plants are zero, moreover, they grow well harmful algae. And over time, plastic breaks down and becomes brittle! They cost more than living plants.
Nevertheless, such plastic aquarium plants, as an element of decor, look very much even in a pond.

Plants are an established aquarium biosystem, no harmful substances in the water, no algae.
Everything is simple! Aquarium plants are the primary indicator of the status of your aquarium.
If the plants “wither”, turn yellow and rot – this is a sure sign of the poor condition of the aquarium and conversely lush, beautiful spreads – this is a 100% indicator of the excellent state of the aquarium world.
Aquarian plants are a natural interior and “maternity hospital” for fish, fry, shrimps, snails, etc.
Plants are an additional food for aquarium inhabitants.
By the way, about the question of the correct planting
For beginners aquarists, it is very important to create a home pond in such a way that it is cozy and safe for all its inhabitants. In addition to fish, plants will live in the reservoir, invisible microscopic bacteria, possibly clams and amphibians. If you are new to this business, and are not sure what will be useful and beautiful for a pond, then plant unpretentious aquarium plants in it.
They do not require much attention and special conditions of detention, will be useful for all pets.
What water plants are unpretentious: some species
Unpretentious aquarium plants are those types of plants that are hardy, painlessly tolerate changes in the parameters of the aquatic environment. They are easy to care for, easy to grow.
The most common species are mosses, ferns and stile-leaved plants, many of them saturate the water with oxygen and serve as a substrate for spawning.
Check out Interviews with Sergey Torgashev about various aquarium plants and their contents.
Wallisneria is a beautiful plant that has narrow leafy plates that reach the surface of the water. The leaves float above the watery surface, they are very beautiful in spiral vallisneria, and twist in the likeness of a spiral. There are several varieties of Vallisneria that have a well-developed root system.
Wallisneria is distinguished by unpretentiousness in keeping and breeding, it grows quickly. Vegetative reproduction, lateral shoots from rhizomes.
It spreads quickly in an aquarium – with enough light, new bushes appear, therefore, it is best suited for creating an aquascape.
Hornpaw – a common aquarium plant, is distinguished by unpretentious content. It can freely float above the water surface, or it can be landed in the soil substrate.
In the felicia, fish fry prefer to hide. Diluting it at home is easy – you need to divide the stem, from the separated fragments there will be new daughter shoots.
Lemna and riccia are plants that float on the surface of the water surface, their lower leaves and stems serve as shelters for fish and juveniles, and some species of fish love to eat their leaves. Vegetative reproduction, and fast, so in a short time the entire surface of the water will be covered with elliptical leaves.
Help to diffuse light, shade the tank. Ricci floating can be fixed to the bottom of the tank or to its wall mesh.
As a result, you can create an amazing aquapark with a green composition. In order for these plants not to grow, they need to weed periodically.
Hygrophil is a family of plants of the same name, the most unpretentious seedlings for an aquarium. They can be planted at the middle and background aquascape. Hygrophiles grow quickly due to their rich lighting.
Reproduction occurs by dividing the lateral shoots. For beginning aquarists, different types of hygrofil are available, which have different flowers of leaves and stems, growth rate, leaf structure, etc.
Echinodorus – a very popular aquarium plant, is characterized by unpretentiousness and endurance. There are many types of Echinodorus, which combine morphological characteristics. They have linear or heart-shaped leaves, their color is dark or bright green.
Young ekhinodorusy can quickly acclimatize in a new environment, will begin to grow rapidly. Reproduction occurs due to the separation of daughter plants from the rhizome, or their appearance on the arrows with flowers.
Cryptocoryne – a family of the same, long stem plants. Can be planted at the back of the tank (cryptocoryne aponogetonolist).
The average plan can be placed cryptocoryn Walker or Beckett. In the foreground, a dwarf cryptocoryne will look great.
Reproduction occurs by the method of separation of the daughter plant from the mother when the first reaches the height of the mother bush. Cutting off a child escape, it can be transplanted to another place, rooting in the ground.
Some recommendations for the preparation of aquarium plants
For those who have just begun to engage in aquarium design, there are special aquarium plants for beginners. Such representatives have a beautiful appearance, and their survival rate can be compared with weeds.
The speed of their growth is great, and if they are firmly entrenched in your tank, then it will be difficult to withdraw them. Care is not required.
They are perfectly acclimatized and can grow in low light conditions. As fertilizers, they are suitable waste products of fish.
Such aquarium plants help beginners to develop some skills.
As the most unpretentious aquarium plants can be recommended January moss, Thai fern, hornet, Schizandra, hygrophilous patterned, Indian fern, Echinodorus, Marsilya, Creame, Anubias and Naiad. Despite their intricate names, all this is unpretentious aquarium plants that take root perfectly, form magnificent thickets, and can grow in a wide variety of conditions.
To care for them will require a minimum of effort, and the beauty in your house for fish will exceed all expectations.
If plants do not grow in an aquarium, then it is necessary to pay attention to the following factors: light, water temperature, nutrients and carbon dioxide. Absorbing the nutrients in the process of photosynthesis produces new cells, while the process itself is possible only in the presence of light.
At night, the plant absorbs oxygen, emitting carbon dioxide. Water temperature should not be too cold or too warm.
All these factors must be in balance with each other. Also pay attention to the number of fish, perhaps the plants in your tank do not grow due to their oversupply.
And maybe your plants just do not have enough feeding. After all, no one is surprised that we feed the fish in an aquarium, and the plants also need their own food.
In order for the nutrients to come in full, fertilizing is required. The choice of the necessary chemical elements depends on the pH value. If the environment of your aquarium is acidic, that is, the pH is less than 6.5, then it is better to use nitrates.
As proved by experiments, in an acidic environment, such dressing with nitrates is better absorbed by aquarium plants than, for example, ammonia salts. Conversely, if water is weakly alkaline or neutral, then ammonia nitrogen is necessary for healthy growth (preferably urea or urea).
To provide a fish house with enough light, plant lamps are used. After all, light is required for plant nutrition and is the basis for growth. It is thanks to him that photosynthesis takes place – the main thing for the life of your aquarium flora.
With a lack of light, the plant may wither, and if the light is not enough constantly, then die. Therefore, if your aquarium does not receive enough light, then be sure to use lamps for plants.
Two indicators are important for aquarium lamps: lamp power and spectrum. On average, an aquarium with a water height of about 40-45 cm requires 0.4-0.5 W per liter of water.
Such light will give an average figure of illumination, which is suitable for most species of aquarium plants. That is, for an aquarium of 100 liters with a height of water of 40-45 cm, a fluorescent lamp of 40-50 W or 2 lamps of 20 W each will do.
If the height of the water in your tank is more than 50 cm, then the lamp power will need to double.
All plants require care, of course, each individually. There are most of the species, the care of which requires certain knowledge and skills, and there are also those that are not demanding in content, any novice aquarist can afford them.
To do this, be patient and choose a suitable plant that can normally exist in the conditions that will provide him.
Unpretentious aquarium plants do not require complex care, it is enough just to maintain a certain temperature in the aquarium and illuminate them with special fluorescent lamps.
Aquarium plants for beginners are not only unpretentious, but also very beautiful. For example, elodey is not inferior to the rogolovniku their appearance.
It has long and thin roots, as well as bright green leaves, which are constantly drawn to the light. It can also be used as a floating or rooted plant.
Elodea perfectly amenable to pruning, which has to be carried out regularly. It is also an indispensable food for mollies, goldfish and swordsmen, who need a vegetable diet.
We choose aquarium plants for beginners, while paying attention not only to their beautiful appearance, but also to their demands on certain conditions of detention.
Before acquiring a tank for fish, it is necessary to carefully consider its design and shape so that it fits into the interior of the room as naturally as possible, does not interfere with its basic purpose and is located in a place convenient for viewing.
By design, aquariums are on a stand, on legs, suspended, angled, frame and frameless. In form, they are represented by more than a wide choice, the main of which are:
- spherical (round);
- cubic (square);
- parallelepipedal (rectangular);
- parallelepipedal with convex viewing glass (panoramic);
- prismoidal (with a regular polygon of the bottom, as a rule, high, for a floor installation);
- pyromidoidal (triangular, for closed-type aquariums).
The main parameters for choosing a tank for keeping fish in a novice aquarist are the following factors:
- correct installation, which should allow various manipulations during operation (removal or installation of the cover and backlight, feeding fish, planting plants, cleaning the filter, bottom siphon, etc.);
- the exclusion of direct sunlight on its surface;
- the number and size of the aquarium population (the required volume of the aquarium depends on this. If there is no certainty for specific fish, then take at least 1 liter of water per 1 cm of adult fish, i.e. if you want to contain 10 fish 8 cm long, you need an aquarium more than 80 liters, it will avoid overcrowding and allow it to develop well and feel comfortable for its inhabitants).
Together with the aquarium offer covers with integrated lighting and cabinets for them. If there is no specific place to install the aquarium, then you can use this offer. A lid for a backlit aquarium will prevent many species of fish from jumping out, reduce evaporation of water into the atmosphere of the room, and also provide artificial lighting for the plant and allow you to control the length of the day in a pond.
The cabinet is suitable for storing all sorts of accessories (a net, tubes, suckers, feeders, literature, etc.), feed and other things related to the aquarium.
There is a standard set of equipment for aquariums:
- Illumination (the choice of lamp power and the duration of illumination during the day depends on the inhabitants and plants);
- water heater (it is better to choose with automatic temperature control);
- Aerator and water filter can be both combined and separate (power depends on the volume of the aquarium).
The selection of soil and scenery depends on the inhabitants, but small fractional rounded gravel without sharp edges is considered universal. The thickness of the soil at the bottom should be from 5 to 7 cm, this will allow plants to root well and grow.
You can use locks, sunken ships, etc. to decorate and create a unique interior.
Before releasing beautiful fish in the aquarium, it takes about two weeks. One day can be done:
- laying soil, planting plants, installation of lighting decorations, heating, filter aerator;
- filling the aquarium with tap water;
- turning on the heater and filter aerator.
After that, you need to wait a week for chlorine to evaporate from the water during this time. It is allowed to add various normalizers to the water, which improve the water parameters.
Before using them, you should consult with competent aquarists or sellers who know the parameters of tap water in your area.
After a week, you can run the first, most enduring inhabitants – snails ampoules, tritons, frogs or shrimp. Often the first are ampulyarii. They have a positive effect on the formation of an ecosystem in an aquarium.
Water in a room pond is gaining stability in the order of a month and may become cloudy. Over time, it will clear and be transparent. And only depending on the state of water and the state of health of the ampoule, after about a week you can run inexpensive fish.
