In nature Water banana is found in the southeastern United States of America. It grows in standing or slowly flowing waters.

Banana plant grows on a shorter stem and has a rosette with petioles. The shape of the leaf plate is round; its diameter can reach 10 cm; there is a deep cut-out in the place of the cutting arm of the leaf plate.

Its upper side has an olive-green hue, the lower side is pale-violet and has clearly visible streaks. Easily broken light green stalk has a coating of brown hair, also littered with many airbags. Dimensions water banana, usually depend on the water level in aquarium.

From its root is observed the growth of a bunch of long shoots of dark green up to 2 cm in length and up to 0.6 in width, having similarities with bananas. The white roots of the appendages have a thick and cord-like form.

Water banana extremely sensitive to changes in conditions of detention, especially to changes in temperature and water hardness. The hardness is 5-10 °, pH 6.0-7.2 (young plants are adversely affected by water with high acidity), the temperature in the summer is 25-27 ° C, in the winter period 15-18 ° C – water must have such parameters will provide the optimum content of a banana plant.

The fastest growth is observed in bright illuminated. Therefore, it is recommended to plant in the area of ​​greatest light, i.e. in the foreground area of ​​the aquarium.

Optimal soil – soil not rich in nutrients. Gravel is used as a primer.

It is advised to “banana” planted in the ground only a quarter.

Breeding Banana water carried out with the help of young plants that form at the end of a creeping shoot. In addition, if you cut the sheet and set it to float, then soon a daughter plant is formed at the end, but the new plant will not have “bananas”.

The same method is used for breeding: they cut off a whole leaf and plant it in a moist earth with a high level of air humidity, as a result a daughter plant grows on it, which after the formation of roots is transplanted into aquarium. Water banana grows slowly and gives 1-2 leaves per month.
