Vallisneria spiral: features of plant care

Spiral Wallisneria is one of the most common plants, especially in aquariums of beginning aquarists because of its rapid growth and unpretentiousness. In height, the plant can reach 80 cm, but usually grows no more than 50 cm.

Brightly green leaves twisted by a spiral form dense thickets, they have a spiral vallisneria as a rule in the background, besides it is necessary to make sure that it does not shade other plants.

Wallisneria is quite unpretentious, growing evenly throughout the year. The water temperature should be at the level of 20-26 ° С, and the total hardness is not higher than 8 °, but as practice shows, this plant feels great and with water parameters significantly deviating from the data. It grows both in regularly changing and in old water.

For enhanced growth, light is desirable bright, lasting about 12 hours, because Vallisneria belongs to the light-loving plants, but with an average power of illumination it will slightly lose the growth rate.

There are no special requirements for the size of the soil fraction, it should be of medium size but well silted. If the plant is planted in a new soil – then you need to make fertilizer mixed with clay. The thickness of the soil layer should exceed 3 cm.

It is important to ensure that iron or other metals do not enter the aquarium water. they can destroy the plant.

In aquariums, the plant breeds shoots on which daughter plants are formed. Reproduction occurs very quickly, under favorable conditions, one plant can produce several dozen shoots per year.

Shoots can be separated from the main plant when at least 4 leaflets form on them.
