The maintenance of the aquarium plant Rotala indica (Rotala indica)

An aquarium without a lively flora looks plain and empty. A common decoration of a glass house is considered to be Rotala Indica. To the best of the whimsical ornamental plant will decorate the aquarium, paludarium and greenhouses with a humid climate.

A special condition of the content – at temperatures below 200C, some species of rotala die.

Rotala indian (rotala indica) – ornamental plant of the family Derbennikov, belongs to the genus Rotala, family Lythraceae, belongs to the order of the Myrtotsvetnyh, the class of Rosida, the department of Angiosperms.

Rotala grows in the Caucasus and Southeast Asia. In room conditions, the height reaches 30 cm.

Brown with a red tinge leaves are located opposite each other in annular nodules along the entire trunk. Sometimes they get a purple hue.

Leaf dimensions – width 3 mm, length 10 mm.

Depending on the type of rotary from one whorl, two, three or four leaflets appear. Experts especially appreciate the wide sheets.

Since the tip of the grass and side shoots grow at an accelerated rate, the lower ones receive little light, turn pale and fall off. To avoid this, it is recommended to thin out the grass regularly, leaving young shoots.

Indian rotary aquarium plant attracts with unusual properties. In water, the leaves of rotala have an elongated shape, while those that look out from the aquarium or are grown in greenhouses are round.

It grows in Southeast Asia and reaches 30 cm in height. Plant width about 18 cm.

The recommended temperature is 18-30 degrees. It is considered an unpretentious option for the decoration of the aquarium.

The sizes do not differ from other plant varieties. Thin pinkish leaves decorate the aquarium with good care. If there is not enough light and water, the leaves become bored and turn pale.

Rotary aquarium plant Vietnam Walliha less whimsical and more common among fish owners.

A large-tongue plant from India is 25–30 cm tall and about 6 cm wide. Thin pink oval leaves will decorate any aquarium. Unlike the green macrandra species – beautiful and less whimsical variety, has a number of nuances:

  • dies at temperatures below 25 degrees;
  • Do not add baking soda or salt to the aquarium water;
  • dies if it is not rooted and left to float on the surface;
  • does not like touching fingers;
  • leave as little as possible during the transplant;

Rotala indica not only decorates the aquarium, it affects the metabolism in the water. This has a good effect on the health and growth of fish and plants living in the neighborhood.

The main condition is that the technical devices provided for aeration and filtration should be kept at a distance from the rotary. They damage the gentle leaves of grass with their strong flow. Despite the less whimsicalness, the indica puts forward a number of requirements for the landing site:

  • aquarium volume – 120 liters;
  • maintaining the temperature above 24 degrees;
  • inadmissibility of ingress of alkali, water – neutral or slightly acid;
  • it should not be muddy;
  • peat, clay and some silt are added to the fine gravel;
  • soil – nutritious and neutral, 3 cm thick;
  • artificial light about 12 hours as an addition to 3 hours of sunlight.

The last item is important for the color of the leaves (red or gold). It is he who increases the attractiveness of this plant.

After purchasing the cuttings, it is recommended to let them float. In the short term, rotala adapts, takes roots, and it can be rooted.

Indica propagates by grafting and by separating basal shoots. In warm water – about 30 degrees and in good light rooting of a new grass will not cause problems.

As rotala grows at an accelerated pace, it is thinned regularly. To do this, pull the stalks out of the ground or change the old large plants for small shoots.

In order to carry out the replacement correctly, it is recommended to pull out the grass, tear off its top – about 5 cm and plant it in the vacated space.

There are no plants that can crush the indica total, so among them, the neighbors are chosen for decorative properties. For a harmonious combination Experts advise to plant in the same aquarium a roto with large-leaved plants.

Representatives of aquatic fauna cause irreparable harm by eating delicate leaves of grass. The main hazards are: guppies, angelfish, molly, swordtails, catfish, goldfish, hummingbird fish.

If planting rotals to them is unavoidable, it is recommended to plant an empty aquarium and allow the plant to gain strength.

Just in case, to avoid trouble, use special blends with plant elements that compensate for the need of fish in pasture.

A dangerous moment for the development of disease is considered the first time after transplantation. From greenhouse conditions, the plant is transported to an unusual environment, while experiencing stress.

It is important in these moments to provide normal conditions for rotal. In addition, ailments provokes water, which does not provide the necessary trace elements and poor quality soil.

The first signs of disease appear immediately, the plant changes color (turns pale) and becomes sluggish. Infected and decayed parts are removed as soon as possible with tweezers.

To protect against algae it is recommended to clean the aquarium regularly and update the water. In addition to these, open-air roots (during transplantation) and careless finger touches carry the danger.
