The maintenance of aquatic plants richchiya

Riccia – bright green aquarium moss. In the natural environment, the plant can be found in temperate and tropical latitudes.

Due to its unpretentious content and good adaptation, this moss is widely used for decorating aquariums. In addition to the decor, the alga is a shelter for small fish.

The plant has neither roots nor leaves. In appearance, such hepatic moss resembles a small island of greenery.

Algae consists of thallus and twigs, which can reach a thickness of about 1 mm. All of them are combined in the outlet.

Due to its structure, the plant is a good shelter for small fish.

The color of the plant indicates how well the conditions of its maintenance are chosen. The norm is considered light green.

If the moss has darkened or has acquired a red-brown shade, then this indicates that the moss is not enough light.

Under properly selected conditions, the alga multiplies rapidly, forming a single carpet, which can reach about 2−3 cm in thickness.

There are many opinions regarding the usefulness of such a plant in an aquarium. Some believe that such a moss only litters the water, while others are confident that Riccia has many beneficial properties. These include the following:

  • saturates water with oxygen;
  • participates in the exchange of mineral and organic substances;
  • creates shade for fish;
  • serves as a hiding place for fry;
  • can be used as spawning spot.

Riccia is a food for turtles and ampoules. Often aquarists use kelp to create design compositions.

In nature, there are only about 20 species of this plant. Under aquarium conditions, this type of moss, such as amano, is most often cultivated.

In its natural environment, it grows in standing tropical waters.

Riccia amano will grow well in fresh water at a temperature of 22 to 25 ° C. If it is lower, the plant will stop growing and quickly die. Therefore, it is important that the aquarium has a thermometer and a special heater.

In favorable conditions, the moss grows well and quickly covers the entire surface of the water. Periodically, the aquarium should be cleaned of it, as it complicates the normal oxygen exchange.

Another popular aquarium species is Riccia floating. The content of such moss does not cause trouble.

Most often, the plant is planted to create a shelter for the young. It is recommended to combine riccia only with those aquarium plants that normally tolerate partial shade.

A floating aquarium with a corresponding temperature is necessary for keeping a floating type moth. So that the plant does not float on the surface it can be mounted on a snag or stone. To do this, you can use a fine mesh or wire.

It is necessary to fix the algae very carefully so as not to damage it.

Another popular view is sinking moss. Its peculiarity is that it does not float on the surface, but immediately sinks to the bottom. In length, its branches can reach about 2 cm.

Due to the fact that this species does not create a strong shade, it can be combined with many aquarium algae.

For keeping in an aquarium most often used species from tropical latitudes. So that they normally grow and multiply, it is necessary to create appropriate conditions. Water should have the following indicators:

  • temperature – 20−30 ° C;
  • stiffness – 2−8 dH;
  • pH is neutral.

Lighting should be abundant, but not sunny. It is best to use LB lamps for 1 dm.

The plant between the lamps should be about 5 cm. Incandescent bulbs are not recommended because they heat the water very much.

Ritchie does not need to be fed with additional mineral compounds. All the nutrients it receives from the waste products of fish.

With a strong saturation of water with various organic impurities and lime on the stems can form plaque. It interferes with normal photosynthesis, as it does not transmit light.

If it is necessary to quarantine the aquarium and add salts and medicines to the water, then it is recommended to put the moss into another container for a while.
