The content of the aquarium plant limnofila aromatics

Limnophila is one of the most popular types of aquarium plants. It is unpretentious, so it is often recommended to beginner aquarists. The appearance is pretty cute – the branches are fluffy, rich green and look like balls.

However, in a hard type of water can get a crimson hue.

Smell of limnofily reminds of lemon

The homeland of the limnophila is the southeastern part of Asia, and it can often be found in Vietnam, India or China. In the early seventies, it was brought to North America, where it was widely distributed.

In nature, it grows in water bodies and flooded paddy fields, marshy areas and where there is silt soil and high air temperature.

There are several varieties of this plant. It has a long stem and leaves that change color shade from green to purple.

The height of the stem can be from 25 to 50 centimeters. The size of the foliage is 2.5−5 centimeters. From above, the shade of the foliage may be green, and from below it may be red or purple.

The hue depends on the varietal characteristics and lighting.

May bloom, but only when the plant is completely in the water. On it are formed flowers of purple color, which are formed in internodes.

The aroma of the leaves is similar to something like lemon, nutmeg and curry.

There are several types of limnofily. Among aquarists the most common are following types:

  • Royal Limnophila or Water Amulia. This plant is considered the largest of all species. In India and Vietnam is considered a weed, but in Europe it is used in aquarism. It is able to absorb nutrients from the water and it doesn’t matter what soil it is in. It propagates both by cutting and by means of roots – they grow horizontally in the soil itself. An important condition for it is clean water. It grows quickly and after a short period of time a real jungle is formed in the aquarium. If the light is off, the plant lowers the leaves down, pressing them closer to the stalk.
  • Dwarf Limnophila (Sidacular). Differs in the increased decorative effect and is the most undemanding to conditions and care by a look. Growth is fast and can grow in a different range of temperatures and stiffness. It gives horizontal shoots and rapidly grows along the bottom of the aquarium.

Indian cuttlefish can release poison that is dangerous for fish.

  • Indian Limnfila. The main difference of a plant is its ability to release substances that are poisonous to fish when cut. Because of this, cut such a plant should be outside the aquarium. Before planting such a limnofil, the cuttings should be rinsed well in water. It is better to plant in large tanks, because the concentration of hazardous substances becomes lower and is no longer so dangerous for the inhabitants of the aquarium. Indian limnofila has the ability to change the color of foliage depending on the light.
  • Limnophila rugoza. This plant is very beautiful. It can form a whole lawn that looks very nice in the foreground or background of the aquarium. Good growth is observed in water of medium type of hardness, the root system is quite powerful. Good effect on the growth of the introduction of trace elements into the water.
  • Limnophile Belem. Very original and elegant variety of limnofily. The shade of the foliage is red, and its intensity depends on the lighting. When feeding CO2 grows much faster, especially if the water hardness is increased. Under normal conditions, the content looks very nice. If the lighting is bright, then the color of the plant becomes brighter.

In addition to these, there are other types of limnofil. Among them it is possible to distinguish the limnofil hipproids and others.

All these plants have similar conditions, but they may differ in appearance, shape and size. But despite this, they are able to perfectly decorate the aquatic world of the aquarium.

Limnophil aromatics content is considered one of the most capricious species of Limnophila. But do not be afraid of it, even an inexperienced aquarist can handle it.

It should be noted that this is a fairly high plant, so it should be planted in an aquarium with a height of at least 0.5 meters and a volume of eighty liters.

Limnophila aromatics – one of the most capricious species of algae

The quality of water depends on the appearance of limnofily. For aromatics, it is required to maintain more constant indicators of water, namely:

  • water temperature in the range of 22−28 degrees;
  • acidity at the level of 5.5–7.0 pH;
  • stiffness – 4−14º.

The plant can feel quite well in any of these indicators, however, it can negatively respond to its abrupt change. If the water temperature drops below 15 degrees or rises above 30 degrees, the limnophil loses its vitality.

For the color of the plant is very important carbonate hardness. If the water is soft, then the leaves become light green, and if it is hard, they turn scarlet or purple.

There must be a filtration system., and it is also necessary to carry out regular water changes of about ¼ per week. If you change a large amount of water, it can dramatically change the water indicators, which can adversely affect the plant.

Growth may slow down, leaves are made smaller.

In the aquarium you need to create a filtration system.

Equally important is the lighting in the aquarium. It affects the appearance and beauty of aromatics.

She needs a long light day, which should be equal to about 10−13 hours. Also requires a powerful supply of light – about 0.8 W / l. With these parameters, the shade of the leaves becomes reddish, and their surface is shiny.

If there is not enough light, then the bushes begin to stretch out and the red color becomes paler or is not at all significant.

It is preferable to install fluorescent lamps that have a wide spectrum of light or use special lights for an aquarium. Lamps with a red or blue spectrum are not recommended.

Limnofil required to constantly trim, and new cuttings podsazhivat. Its appearance and accuracy depend on it.

Also, such manipulations can rejuvenate the bushes. But It is worth noting that the plant is prone to pruning hard and new shoots do not grow immediately.

Propagated accordingly, it is a vegetative way. To do this, you only need to separate the top of the bush and plant it in the ground.

After some time, the root system begins to form in the cutting.
