Rotala Wallich or Red Mayak (Rotala wallichii)

Rotala Walliha (Rotala wallichii)aquarium plant floating in water, belongs to the family Derbennikovye (Lythraceae). The second name of the plant is Red mayak.

In nature Rotala Walliha is found in the swamps of Southeast Asia.

Red mayak – herbaceous plant with a whorling arrangement of leaves (up to 15 pieces). The sheet plate itself with a delicate surface is colored from above in a color ranging from olive green to reddish, and a light green color scheme on the bottom. Sheet length does not exceed 2.5 cm, and width up to 10 mm.

Stems are elongated, erect, up to 40 cm in length. Blossoms red mayak red or pink flowers formed in the nodes of surface shoots.

Rotala Waliha rather demanding of conditions content. Water hardness should not exceed 4 °, pH in the range of 5.5-6.5.

A weekly replacement of 25% water is required. Aquarium plant does not tolerate any chemical additives, it reacts painfully to them. Grow red mayak can be both rooted and floating in the water.

In bright light, the color of the leaf tips turns deep red. It grows well in natural light, but it must be protected from direct sunlight. As artificial lighting, incandescent lamps (power up to 40 watts) and luminescent lamps (power 0.4-0.5 watts per liter, type LB) are combined.

Lamp power depends on the size of the aquarium, and the lamps themselves are installed directly above the plant. Light day lasts at least 12 hours.

Root system red mayaki poorly developed. For this reason, the degree of silting of the soil does not matter.

As a substrate suitable sand, laid in a layer thickness of 2-3 cm. Grows aquarium plant evenly and quickly, per month up to 20 cm.

Rotala Waliha propagated by cuttings that are planted from aquarium 1-2 cm thick layer of nutrient soil filled with water. The composition of the soil includes humus, garden soil and sand.

In such conditions content air shoots are formed on the plant, which rapidly grow in bright light and at a temperature of 26-30 ° C. Subsequently, the plant is transferred to aquarium.
