Plants dwarf bolbitis compact and Bolbitis heudelotii

Plants in the aquarium are an integral part of the design and the condition for the normal development of its inhabitants. Bolbitis enjoys great popularity among home water lovers.

This majestic gidrofit belongs to the class of higher ferns. He has an unusual texture and color of leaves.

Depending on the species, it is able to decorate a tank of any size and shape.

Bolbitis – subspecies of ferns. Beautiful plant to decorate the aquarium

Bolbitis was first discovered and described by scientists in the 30s of the last century. Biologists attribute it to the order of millipede plants and the class of ferns.

Hydrophyte has a creeping root system with brown petioles. With tenacious roots attaches to any bottom bumps and sediments.

This allows the plant to stay in place in fast flowing rivers.

The leaves are complex pinnate, arranged on the stem alternately and form a lush bush. Depending on environmental conditions, plant height varies from 20 to 50 centimeters.

In the wild, it is found in tropical latitudes. It grows in all countries with a hot humid climate and an abundance of reservoirs.

The main habitats are the western part of the African continent, India and Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines.

Grow prefers in shallow water and along rivers. Thick thickets of this representative flora create a unique landscape of evergreen forests.

In the world there are a huge number of varieties of ferns. The most famous are:

  • Ceratopteris or Indian hydrophyte resembles dill in the shape and color of leaves. It grows in shallow silty soil, in sand or pebbles. Can swim on the surface of the reservoir. Very light-requiring.
  • Red Asian fern has a scarlet color of young shoots, which eventually turn green. Because of this feature is very popular among fans of unusual decor.
  • Trident is the rarest species of hydrophytes. The leaves are shaped like a trident and reach a length of 20 centimeters.

The pteropus is pterygoid, ideal for decoration of the front and center of the aquarium

  • The pteropus pterygoid with wide bright green leaves creates lush thickets, ideal for decorating the perimeter and the central part of the aquarium. The Philippine variety is different in that it prefers salt water.
  • The narrow-leaved view consists of narrow leaves. Its rhizome is covered with thin villi. It grows well in tanks of small size. He needs a bright light and soft water.
  • Thailand, or Vendelova, is distinguished by a lanceolate form of foliage with a branched upper part resembling deer horns. Prefers a low-salt or fresh aquatic environment.
  • Dwarf species grows on wet soil and spreads along it with a green carpet. In height does not exceed seven centimeters. In aqua skipping bolbitis compact has been used recently. It can grow over the entire surface of the aquarium and feels great under water. Dwarf Bolbitis adapts well to different levels of light, temperature and any fluid composition.
  • Bombilis gedeloti can do without soil due to the special form of the roots

  • Heteroclitis, or bizarre, can grow in both soil and water. Favorite habitat are tree trunks in their lower parts and small areas of rocks. Very whimsical in home pond conditions. More suitable for breeding in paludarium.
  • Gedeloti or Bolbitis heudelotii is from Congo, so it is called Congolese fern. Thanks to cling roots, can do without soil. The fern of a bolbitis of gedeloti needs a diffused light and clear water. The leaves are very dense, which saves them from eating fish.
  • With all its differences, hydrophytes belong to the same class and their types are easily confused. They are united by the ability to adapt well to growing conditions at home.

The fern of bolbitis grows upwards in an aquarium, therefore various pebbles and snags should be located at the bottom of the reservoir, for which it clings to the roots. To avoid root rot, it should be kept free of soil. Acclimatization slows the growth of hydrophyte.

However, subject to growing conditions, you can achieve moderate growth. For optimal plant development and health. You must adhere to the following rules:

    • Diffuse, natural light, avoid direct rays.
    • Slightly acidic water with pH -6.
    • Temperature range from 22 to 25 degrees Celsius.
    • Mineral feeding.
    • Periodic change of fluid.

When feeding water should be aware that the plant does not tolerate high sodium content. If it is necessary to add salt or soda, their amount should not exceed one gram per liter of liquid.
