Plant Elodey leafy: breeding, care in an aquarium

This plant grows in the waters of Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay and Argentina. Elodea has a long branched stem with whorled leaves of 4-6 pieces and up to 5 cm long, up to 0.6 cm wide.

The plant grows quite large, up to 70 cm in height, depending on the conditions in the aquarium, the size and color of the leafy elodey may vary slightly.

Elodea blooms leafy white flowers with three large petals. It blooms in the summer.

Different types of elodea can be both dioecious and contain male and female flowers on the same plant.

Elodea is a leafy rather unpretentious plant, it feels great in cold-water aquariums and moderately warm.

Optimum water parameters:

  • Temperature – 15-26 degrees;
  • Hardness – 8-20;
  • pH 6.0-8.0.

This plant is sun-loving, so the lighting in the aquarium with these plants is bright enough. With insufficient lighting, growth slows down.

When selecting lighting should take into account the surrounding plants, so as not to harm them.

In the aloea aquarium, the leafy grows beautifully throughout the year.

Reproduced elodey cuttings. The cutting does not necessarily immediately rooted in the ground, it can be left to swim in the water until the roots begin to form.
