Lemna trisulca

Lemna (Lemna trisulca) – widespread aquarium plant from the family Lemnaceae (Lemnaceae).

In natural conditions duckweed lives in non-flowing reservoirs of all regions with a temperate climate.

Lemna swims in the water column and only during the flowering period surfaced. Leaves duckweed up to 1 cm in length, translucent light green. Leaves grow in bunches of three or more.

Thickets formed in water duckweed triple serve as a breeding ground and a haven for many fish.

For content duckweed triple best suited moderately warm aquarium. Optimum water parameters: total hardness up to 8 ° reaction – neutral or slightly acid, water temperature – within 18-22 ° C.

The plant in alkalescent cold water dies. Lighting in the aquarium for duckweed triple should be strong, but scattered. The plant does not like direct sunlight.

With artificial lighting, fluorescent lamps (type LB) can be used, the power of which should not be less than 0.5 W per liter of water. The use of incandescent lamps is not recommended because they do not affect the temperature of the upper water layer. Water that grows duckweed, should be clean, as the particles of dregs deposited on its leaves worsen their nutrition and the plant dies.

At aquarists three-sided duckweed especially widespread not found. This is due to the seasonal nature of growth. aquarium plants.

Until the winter they keep him in aquarium, and for the period of wintering transferred to a shallow container. In winter, the temperature is maintained within 5-12 ° C and low light.

A wintered plant is transferred in the spring to a warm one. aquarium.

AT breeding duckweed triple special difficulties do not arise. A small part is separated from the large thickets.

Under conditions that are comfortable for the plant, a new plant can be formed from several leaves. In natural conditions duckweed quickly forms thickets and tightens the entire surface of the reservoir. The same will happen in aquarium, if you don’t follow the plant.

Therefore, in order to avoid strong blackout aquarium, it is necessary to thin out thickets regularly duckweed triple.
