Cryptocoryne cordate or Cryptocoryne cordata (Cryptocoryne cordata) is an aquarium plant of the Cryptocoryne genus (Cryptocoryne) of the aroid family (Araceae).
Habitat heart-shaped cryptocorynes – shallow rivers and streams of Thailand, Indonesia, the Malay Peninsula.
Cryptocoryne cordata – grass bush with a rosette of long, oblong oval-shaped leaves on a short stem. The base of the leaf is wide, the tip is pointed.
The leaf grows in length up to 10-17 cm, about 8 cm wide. The upper part of the sheet plate is painted in dark green color, the lower part – in reddish. Color plate is colored purple, yellow in the middle.
Occasionally the entire plate is colored yellow. The plant has a well-developed root system, reaching a length of up to half a meter.
Cryptocoryne cordate is used in the decoration of the average plan aquarium. The plant feels more comfortable in soft water, so it is impossible to change the water in the aquarium. Water is added only to replace evaporated.
The optimal parameters of water: pH 6.0-7.0, hardness not more than 12 °, temperature from 23 to 28 ° C. Cryptocoryne cordata grows better in aquarium with bright lighting, but it also feels satisfactory with a small amount of light. Like all members of the cryptocoryne genus, the heart-shaped cryptocoryne tolerates full shading, which is necessary for the development of some caviar aquarium fish (rasbory, petsilobrikon, looks).
Such periods of shading do not harm the health of the plant, the only consequence – reducing the brightness of the color of the plant. For the cultivation of cryptocoryne cordata, a soil rich in organic matter and laid in an aquarium with a layer of at least 5 cm is required. When transferring a plant to a new aquarium or growing a plant in poor soil, you need to do root lures.
Complex fertilizers in liquid form, made in water, do not affect the development of the plant. A one-year-old shrub of cryptocorins forms a semicircular red tuber, from the bosoms of which grow young, white and pink, spirally twisted leaves.
Breeds cryptocoryne cordata vegetatively. Ground layers can grow quite remotely from the parent plant.
