Cryptocoryne brilliant (Cryptocoryne lucens)

Cryptocoryne brilliant (Cryptocoryne lucens) is an aquarium plant of the Cryptocoryne genus (Cryptocoryne) of the aroid family (Araceae).

Homeland cryptocoryne brilliant is the island of Sri Lanka.

Cryptocoryne brilliant – the plant is short, only 10-12 cm tall. A single plant looks inconspicuous, but a thick undergrowth of rich bright green color, planted in the foreground, will decorate any aquarium.

AT content cryptocoryne brilliant quite unpretentious and can grow in both large and small aquarium. Preferably contain brilliant cryptocoryne in moderately warm aquarium. The optimum water temperature is in the range of 24-28 ° C.

In cooler water, plant growth slows down significantly. It should be noted that the growth of the plant, even under the most favorable conditions of the content is very slow.

Water is preferred, the hardness of which does not exceed 8 °, but the plant may exist for some time in soft water. In an acidic environment, plant growth also deteriorates, so a weakly alkaline or neutral active reaction is preferable. It is advisable to make regular water changes in aquarium.

However, this is not mandatory, as the plant feels itself quite comfortable in old water saturated with humic acids. With bright lighting cryptocoryne brilliant forms dense undersized thickets, with a moderate plant begins to reach up, but the color and shape of the leaves does not change. But in this case, the thickets of cryptocorins looks less impressive.

Fluorescent lamps of the type LB can be used as lighting devices, which are used either in combination with other types of lamps or independently. In the case of the use of LD-type lamps, they must be combined with incandescent lamps as a source of red-yellow rays of the spectrum. The power of fluorescent lamps must be calculated on the volume of the aquarium and is about 0.5 watts per liter.

Duration of daylight hours – 12 hours. The soil must be nutritious, silted. As a substrate, it is desirable to use small pebbles or large river sand.

In the soil with large fractions, the roots of the plants develop poorly, and the resulting daughter plants are located close to the mother and therefore prevent each other from developing, and the entire visual effect also deteriorates. In the ground, which consists of small particles, the roots spread well, and the daughter plants grow evenly, creating a beautiful, dense undergrowth of succulent greenery. When planting a plant in the soil, it is desirable to place a lump of peat and clay mixture under the roots.

In the new soil, which is not yet silted and poor in nutrients, the cryptocoryne brilliant slowly grows.

Cryptocoryne brilliant can grow in aquarium, and in the greenhouse. The plant taken from the aquarium can be placed in the paludarium almost immediately, as the plant tolerates changing the aquatic environment to a moist air one.

In appearance, the land plant is no different from an underwater fellow. The temperature of water and air in the greenhouse or paludarium should be 26 ° C, and the soil should be nutritious.

Although the plant does not need mineral supplements, small doses of fertilizers will accelerate the growth of cryptocorynes.

Multiply brilliant cryptocoryne easy. It is enough to separate the resulting subsidiary thickets.

Even very small bushes, which have only one spine and several small leaves in favorable conditions, are quickly taken to a new place.
