Cryptocoryne Blass (Cryptocoryne blassii)

Cryptocourin Blass (Cryptocoryne blassii) – aquarium plant of the genus Cryptocoryne (Cryptocor? Ne) family aroid (Araceae).

Homeland Blass’s cryptocorynes is thailand. The habitat of the plant is standing and swampy water bodies of Southeast Asia, in which it forms impassable dense thickets.

Cryptocourin Blass – one of the most beautiful plants of this kind. The sheet plate is shiny, oval-shaped, located on a long handle.

The leaves are painted in olive color with large bright spots on the top and in purple-red below. Under favorable conditions content bush Blass’s cryptocorynes reaches a height of up to half a meter.

The leaves of this plant are not only in the water column, but also protrude above the surface, providing the plant resistance.

For content Blass’s cryptocorynes need aquarium large capacity with high sides. The plant looks the most beautiful in the background.

In combination with the light green durable small-leaved plants (cabombs, limnofily, hygrophilous) forms a beautiful underwater garden. Is growing Cryptocoryn Blass slowly but evenly throughout the year. The optimum water temperature in the aquarium is 24-26 ° C.

When the temperature drops to 22 ° C, the plant stops growing. The plant can grow normally in soft water, but feels more comfortable in water of medium hardness (dGH 6-16 °). The preferred active reaction of water is close to neutral.

It grows poorly in both weakly alkaline and weakly acidic water. There is no need to regularly replace water, the old plant rich in humic acids feels much better.

This type of cryptocoryne is practically not susceptible to the so-called “cryptocorynous disease” and it tolerates water changes perfectly, without shedding leaves. Aquarium lighting for content Blass’s cryptocorynes preferably bright – with this light color leaves become particularly juicy. Cryptocoryne also grows with moderate light, but in this case its color is paler and the plant itself looks less attractive.

Lighting can be both natural and artificial, the spectrum is close to natural. You can use a combination of incandescent and fluorescent lamps (type LB) or any of the illuminators yourself.

It will completely satisfy the power of a fluorescent lamp 0.3 W per liter. The duration of daylight hours is about 14 hours. As a soil, you can use pebbles of any size or coarse river sand.

The soil must be sufficiently nutritious and silted. When transferring a plant to a new soil, it is necessary to add peat, clay, charcoal.

A plant transplanted into a new soil does not grow for a long time. Blass’s cryptocoryne root system is powerful, so the thickness of the soil layer must be at least 7 cm.

The plant does not need a special mineral dressing, mineral substances do not have any influence on the growth characteristics of the plant.

Contain Cryptocorynu Blass it is also possible in paludarium or greenhouse conditions. In this case, the height of the cuttings decreases, and the shape of the leaf, although it retains its original shape, but the intensity of the color decreases.

In the summer-autumn period at a temperature of about 28 ° C, bright light and nutritious soil, the Blass cryptocoryne blooms, but does not form seeds under artificial conditions.

Breeds Cryptocoryn Blass vegetatively, forming on long creeping rhizome daughter plants. As soon as 3-4 leaflets form on them, the young are transferred to a new place.
