Cryptocoryne affine (Cryptocoryne affinis)

Cryptocoryne related (Cryptocoryne affinis) is an aquarium plant of the Cryptocoryne genus (Cryptocoryne) of the aroid family (Araceae).

Grows cryptocoryne related in the marshy waters of Malaysia and Southeast Asia.

Thanks to the ability to adapt to a variety of conditions and high decorative qualities cryptocoryne related enjoys wide popularity among fans of aquarium. It has the appearance of a grassy bush up to 30-35 cm high.

The leaves of the plant are lanceolate, without stem, collected in the socket. On the front side, the leaves are colored dark green, and on the reverse side, they are maroon-purple.

Longitudinal veins on leaves painted brighter.

Cryptocoryne related most advantageous will look at the side walls aquarium and on the middle ground. For content of this plant rather wide temperature range – 20-28 ° С.

When the temperature deviates below the limit, the growth of the plant practically stops. Feel comfortable cryptocoryne related will be only in water with a hardness of 8-20 °, the reaction of which is slightly alkaline or close to neutral (pH 7.0-8.0). Often drops the leaves after cleaning the aquarium or making the replacement of old acidic water.

Only when content of cryptocorynes related in relatively hard water, water changes will take place without consequences. If in aquarium the water is soft, it is better to add water only to replace the evaporated one. Special requirements for lighting not.

Cryptocoryne related normally tolerates long-term shading, but in this case the brightness of its color, depending on the duration and intensity of illumination, decreases. In the case of a lack of lighting, the striped pattern on the leaves and the purple color of the seamy side of the leaf disappear, and the whole plant becomes a faded green color.

Fluorescent lamps (type LB, power 0.4 watts per liter) are used as lighting devices. When used in conjunction with incandescent bulbs, red leaf color is enhanced. The appearance of the plant is enhanced by diffused sunlight.

Duration of daylight hours should not be less than 12 hours. For good development of cryptocorynes, the silting of the soil plays an important role, which affects the growth rates and the size of the plant.

The particle size of the substrate does not matter. However, it is better not to use large pebbles, because in such a substrate the basal processes develop very closely with the mother plant and interfere with each other.

When transferring to a new soil, it is recommended to put a lump of clay or a mixture of peat and clay under the roots. The soil is placed on the bottom of the aquarium with a layer of at least 5 centimeters.

The growth of a plant planted in a well-silted soil will not be particularly affected by mineral supplements. It is necessary to make it additionally in case of formation of dense thickets of cryptocoryne related in the aquarium, because the deficiency of natural nutrients develops.

Then the application of fertilizing with a complex of mineral fertilizers, the basis of which is nitrogen and trace elements, should be regular, preferably weekly, in nature.

Cryptocoryne related develops better in greenhouse conditions than in an aquarium. For keeping and breeding plants in the conditions of paludarium, bright light and nutritious soil are necessary, the temperature should not fall below 26 ° C.

Cryptocoryne related, grown in air, is not as beautiful as its aquatic form.

Cryptocoryne related in artificial conditions reproduces only by vegetative means. A young plant with 3-4 leaflets is separated from the branch thickets formed next to the mother plant and transferred to a new place.
