Baby arrowhead (Nuphar sagittifolium)

Arrowhead (Nuphar sagittifolium) is an aquarium plant of the genus Kubyshka of the Nymphaeaceae family (Nymphaeaceae).

Grows arrowhead in the southeastern territory of North America.

Arrowhead – green beauty. However, due to slow growth, difficulties of reproduction and some other features of the content is not widespread among aquarists. From the long creeping rhizomes of this aquarium plant, tender coarsely corrugated, arrow-like, light green leaves.

The leaf grows up to 35 cm in length. The arrowhead leaves grows evenly throughout the year.

For content Arrowhead nuggets fit tropical aquarium medium or large size. Most profitable arrowhead nugget will look in the center or on the average plan aquarium.

The water temperature in the aquarium should not be below 24 ° C. If the water temperature is lower, plant growth slows down.

The best will be water with a hardness of 6-12 ° and a neutral reaction of pH 6.5-7.5. It is necessary to avoid creating a strong current of water.

The water in the aquarium should be clean, as the settling of particles of turbidity on the leaves of a plant causes the death of its leaves and leads to a deterioration in the growth of the plant. It is advisable to make a weekly water change in the aquarium. For arrowhead nuggets solar diffused light is very useful.

However, natural light alone is not enough. As the means of artificial lighting use fluorescent lamps (power 0.4 W / l). As an additional source of red-orange rays of the spectrum used incandescent bulbs.

Light day lasts up to 14 hours. For content arrowhead requires nutrient soil.

Although the nature of the substrate does not really matter, you should still prefer a mixture of pebbles and coarse sand. When transferring to a new soil, charcoal and clay should be added.

The bottom sludge accumulated over time will be enough to feed the plant. In order to avoid oversupply, it is necessary to periodically suck off the sludge using a funnel.

Insofar as arrowhead develops a strong root system, the soil should be laid down at least 7 cm thick.

Breeds arrowhead vegetative way. From the developed rhizomes, the part with the lobe of the roots and the rosette of leaves are separated. After this procedure, the plant ceases to grow for some time and is ill.

You should not immediately separate several parts, because it can lead to decay of the rhizome and the death of the plant. If the processes of decay have developed, it is necessary to remove the affected tissue and process the healthy part of the rhizome with a strong decoction of peat or a weak solution of potassium permanganate.

After processing, the plant is planted in the ground, which includes charcoal.
