maintenance, care, compatibility
So, a little about the financial component. The more fish, the more should be their home – an aquarium. The larger the aquarium, the more expensive the equipment is to it.
Thus, the more fish and aquarium, the greater will be your expenses.
Now let’s conditionally divide all aquariums into three groups:
1st group: aquarium up to 50 liters. In such an aquarium only small and peaceful fish can live. These include:
Considering the desire of many newbies to go in for larger fish, you can try to get:
Torakatum Goldfish (1pc.)
2nd group: aquarium from 50 to 100 liters. In such an aquarium, small cichlids and small fish with average aggression can already live. These include:
3rd group: aquarium from 100-200 liters. Here the flight of your imagination begins – you can wind up any fish, with the exception of very large and capricious fish.4th group: aquarium from 200 and above.
Suitable for all fish, even for such as Astronotus (preferably from 500l.) and Discussion!
They are considered the most undemanding to the conditions of detention and, in the general opinion, are the best option among aquarium fish for beginners. In turn, among this group there are also champions in vitality. Of course, this is a guppy.
These fish are familiar to all, they were popular even in those prehistoric times when the filter, compressor and thermostat in the aquarium were considered a luxury. And the guppies in these aquariums lived, sparkled with their magnificent tails and multiplied.
Small fishes of this species can live in a small amount of water, without filtration and aeration, at different temperatures, exclusively on dry food. Of course, such a life cannot be called a comfortable life, and this may soon manifest itself in a deterioration in the appetite of small fishes and the blanching of their colors.
Therefore, it is still very desirable to install a filter in the aquarium, carry out water changes regularly (once a week at 20-30%), and try to diversify the food as much as possible.
Another condition for a long and happy life of gops is that there must be a few of them in the aquarium, not less than 5-6 pieces, since they are packaged and feel alone and uncomfortable.
Relatives of guppies, equally popular in novice aquariums, are swordtails. These small bright fish also do not require special care.
They are larger than guppies, so they need at least 40-50 liters of an aquarium; about 6 liters of water should be in each individual. Otherwise, the fish is also unpretentious, tolerates non-ideal conditions in the aquarium, organic water pollution or high nitrate content in it, and even breeds under these conditions.
Petilles and mollies are also viviparous fishes, almost as good as guppies and swordtails in their resilience. They need a more constant water temperature.
Here, perhaps, all the difference.
The colors and forms of viviparous fish are so bright and diverse that you can create a beautiful, lively and interesting aquarium, using only representatives of these species. And the ease of their reproduction at home (fry are born already well-formed, they eat adult food themselves, and for their successful development it is necessary to ensure only the presence of thickets of small-leaved plants, you can even artificial, where they can hide) and allows even the beginner Aquarist feel like a true fish farmer.
It should be noted that at present breeders have deduced a large number of different forms of viviparous fish – with unusual colors, veil fins, and so on. These fish are unusually beautiful, but they are much more demanding of conditions of detention and not always suitable for inexperienced owners.
Aquatic turtles – a description of popular species, sharing with fish
Aquatic turtles – a description of popular species, sharing with fish
The relevance of this topic is raised by many newcomers to the aquarium world and not only by them.
Often, on the Internet you come across a funny video where turtles swim peacefully with fish, and on the forums you can see photos of the joint content of fish and turtles with forest reviews.
Also, the interest of friends is fueled by the interest that guppies offend their soft-bodied tortoise !?
Having watched and read all this, the aquarist thinks about it – and that’s true. Why not.
After all, in the natural – natural conditions turtles, fish, frogs, snakes and other reptiles live together – in the same area! So all this can be recreated at home?
Well, let’s take a closer look at this issue and see real examples of turtles living together with fish!
So, for a start it is worth noting that a turtle is a turtle! Therefore, we propose to consider four types of turtles that are in demand among fans of aquarium-terrarium living creatures.
Pond turtle and aquarium fish
This species of turtles is often called the sea eared red tortoise. I emphasize that this turtle has never been a marine turtle.
This is a completely freshwater resident.
Contrary to the expectations of many who want to have this kind of turtles, these individuals require a fairly wide space to move. For one or two such Tartill requires an aquarium of at least 100 liters. Also, the aquarium should be equipped with an island for recreation, and a powerful filter.
Aeration is not required, as the turtles breathe atmospheric air, crawling to the surface. In pet stores sell special islands for turtles, which are installed at the bottom of the aquarium.
70% of the island is under water. For the convenience of landfall there is a smooth rise to the surface, which has a rather rough surface with protrusions so that the legs of the tortoise have something to cling to.
It is equally important to remember that the tallest part of the island should be about 20-30 cm from the lid, depending on the size of the pet. in diameter shell. These representatives of armor-clad despite the external slowness and awkwardness very much like to arrange shoots from the paternal house, therefore, in order to avoid searching for a pet throughout the apartment, the requirement to locate the island is better observed.
Most of the day turtles spend in the water, they crawl out to the island to rest and warm up. That is why it is necessary to equip the house of the turtle with an incandescent lamp, which will be directed to the islet.
At the same time, the water temperature should not exceed 26 degrees, warm water is detrimental to the turtle and entails not only poor health, but also the formation of various fungal diseases. At lower temperatures (up to 18 degrees), the turtle feels comfortable.
It is necessary to change water in turtles no more than once a month, as they are rather clean and do not need frequent water changes, which is very convenient for their owners.
The diet of the red-eared turtle for the most part includes animal feed. They are fed with bloodworms, a pipe worker and special granules of dry food, sometimes fed with lettuce or young cabbage.
Adults should be given Gamarus (water crustaceans) dry and raw. Also, red-eared turtles like to feast on boiled fish, or shreds of chicken and beef meat.
Considering all the above, VERDICT – it’s absolutely impossible to keep this turtle together with fish! The conditions of detention and the parameters (quality) of water in almost all freshwater fish species are fundamentally different from the conditions of housing of the red-eared turtle, by almost all criteria.
Cohabitation will be painful. But the most important reason why you should never keep a bug in an aquarium with fish is because turtles are predators.
Floppy, sluggish, funny and safe on land, in the water of the turtle turn into excellent swimmers with an unrivaled sense of prey. If a young turtle is possible and will not hunt for fish, then growing up … all scaly inhabitants of the aquarium will turn into a high-class food for it.
For more doubters. Here is a marginal video (censorship) on the same topic. Marsh turtle and fish
Under the conditions of the content, the marsh turtle does not differ much from the red-eared. But this is a larger species of turtles and therefore one or two individuals require at least 150 liters.
In marsh turtles, calcium deficiency is not rarely observed; therefore, in addition to the incandescent lamp, it is necessary to equip an aquarium with an ultraviolet lamp and supplement the ration with crushed eggshell. The rest of their dining table is almost a mirror image of a red-eared turtle’s table.
The marsh turtle is even more aggressive than its red-ear relative. Here and the video is not needed.
They bite, with it, quite sensitive and an adult individual can bite through the skin of a person, so taking such a pet is not recommended.
Thus, we can conclude that this breed of turtles is even smaller than the previous one is suitable for sharing with aquarium fish.
Trionix turtle and fishTrionix is a soft-bodied turtle.
Its shell is a thick leathery cover.
Unlike the above described species of turtles, the Trionixes practically do not need an island. For them, a small building with a smooth rise, which does not necessarily have its beginning right on the bottom, may well suit. This is a fully aquatic turtle.
An elongated spout allows them to get the necessary oxygen on the surface of the water without any difficulty, and after that they do not need it for a long time. But at the same time, the aquarium should be equipped with continuous filtration and aeration, since this species of turtles needs clean water and can receive oxygen without rising to the surface. This is a very active and fun creation.
Thrionyxes like to dig in shallow soil or sand, leaving only a small elongated face on the surface. Comfortable water temperature for them is 24-26 degrees, although experts have noticed that without harm to health, they live in temperatures ranging from 20 to 30 degrees.
The required volume of a house for Trionix should be at least 150 liters per individual.
In its natural habitat it is a strong and dangerous predator, eating fish, small crustaceans. Not infrequently, this type of shellfish loves to feast on the laying of eggs by a negligent bird, which nests not on the shore of a pond, river or lake, where these “vandals” live.
The mouth of Thronex is equipped with a teeth saw, and therefore its bites to the human hand may not like even more than the bites of a marsh turtle.
However, under the conditions of keeping this turtle is more suitable for sharing with the fish and therefore it is not rare to be found in the general aquarium. BUT! There are a few key points:
– No plants planted in the ground will not survive familiarity with Trionix. If you care for your green spreads, you will have to give up Thrionix. Harmful tortoise pulls out plants with a root, digs up the ground wherever possible, and where it is impossible, it digs up it three times more actively.
Small decorative elements also forever interfere with this type of turtles.
– This is a predator. Very fast, both in water and on land, unlike other types of turtles.
– If, however, the above written does not cool your fervor in acquiring this miracle, it is worth noting that this turtle can settle down with fish only if you take it in the most possible, young age, and follow the rich and varied food menu.
And in conclusion, it would be a crime not to say that even if you follow all the precautions, it does not guarantee that Trionix will never look to your fish. Experienced aquarists know that all fish, even of one species, have their own character.
The same can be said about turtles. There are no guarantees that the predator’s instinct embedded in this tiny creation does not emerge.
One phrase can say: “these turtles can be kept in an aquarium with fish, but only at a young” young “age.” Then you still need to seat!
Here is a video for reflection !!
The author of the video called him: “Turtle (Trionix) – Lucy frightened fish”
Double-tailed tine aquatic turtle
This species of turtles is very similar to the sea counterparts, however, it is freshwater. It can also live in slightly brackish water.
Perhaps this is the only species of turtles that can live peacefully and without incident with any fish, since for the most part this beauty is a vegetarian. Unpretentious, need a temperature of 23-27 degrees.
Filtration and aeration are naturally necessary, but they do not require any additional equipment.
They say about these turtles that they do not swim, but fly around the aquarium. Having a pretty good looks, this miracle pleases the eye.
But there are a number of significant drawbacks:
– Space. If a young turtle of this species (up to two years) can live in a volume of 200 to 500 liters, then an adult turtle needs at least 1000l.
Double-eared turtles grow up to 50 cm in diameter of the shell.
– Price. From $ 200 to $ 800, which is significantly different from the prices of the types described above.
This species is still little studied, little common for sale, but already popular with aquarists. And according to this, all the “experiments” with this turtle remain on the conscience of the owner.
So let’s summarize. For the most part, keeping together completely different aquatic inhabitants like fish and turtles is not worth it.
There are lots of attractive alternatives to diversify your aquarium. Humanity knows an incredible number of species of turtles, and so few of those that can be kept at home.
And this suggests that even these few species need their own home, equipped especially for them and only for them. You should not try the fate of their pets, checking their tails and abdomen for strength.
Finally – here is a good video about fish and turtles. But, alas, here are the comments left by the author of the video in YouTube: Eugene Karpenko 3 years ago “all the Sword-bearers have not been around for a long time 🙂 but the catfish is already much more than turtles. Until recently, the barb lived well. Smileys of the author, you can replace the bitter “UPS”)))

The most unpretentious and small aquarium fish with photos
I think many aquarium fish experts will agree that the first place is given to guppes.
Everyone probably knows these fish … even those who have never seen aquariums. We can say that these fish are the fish of all children of the former USSR (they were in all Soviet aquariums))). The fish is very beautiful and unpretentious.
The tail fin is her beauty. The simplicity of the fish is that it can withstand “difficult conditions of detention.” I happened to see an aquarium with guppies. without aeration, without filtering, without plants, without proper feeding etc. – horror, terrible dream aquarist.
Nevertheless, guppies managed not only to survive in such an aquarium, but even tried to multiply. So to mock the fish of course not worth it.
But their endurance and vitality sometimes affects.
GUPPI – THIS IS A SYMBIOSIS: BEAUTY, INSENSITIVENESS AND EASY + SUPPLEMENTS REPLACE ARE “LIKE A KROL” INDEPENDENTLY – YOU WILL ALWAYS BE UPDATED OF “AQUARIUM PAINTS” Read about the GUPPI read more
2nd place Swordtails
A very famous fish, as a result of persistent selection, a large number of swordtails of various colors and shapes were bred. Males differ from females by the presence of a “sword” on the lower edge of the caudal fin.
Swordtails are kept in flocks in a densely planted aquarium. The minimum size of the aquarium from 10 liters (but better is more).
A good volume of aquarium for a small group of swordtails is 50 liters.
An interesting fact about these fish is that the female swordtail can, at some point, become a male, i.e. change the floor. This is due to the struggle for the survival of the species.
HOW AND GUPPI ARE RECOMMENDED, ALL THOSE WHO DO NOT WANT TO DEAD WITH THE AQUARIUM.
Read about swordsmen more in detail here.
3rd place Somiki corridors
It should begin with the fact that all aquarium catfish – a priori unpretentious. Moreover, they are “orderlies of the aquarium world”: they clean the soil and eat the remnants of life activity.
The corridors are chosen from all catfish, since in addition to the gill, they have intestinal respiration, those. if aeration stops, they will live for a long time.
The fish are very peaceful, calm. They slowly swim along the bottom in search of food. In the aquarium they are usually kept in flocks.
Fish, do not pose any threat to other inhabitants of the aquarium.
You can read more about CORRIDORATUS here.
4th place Mollies
Molly, like guppies – viviparous fishes. Unpretentious and tolerant of poor conditions.
Nevertheless, they are more capricious than the “troika of winners”.
Fish suitable for beginners and young aquarists. The fishes most difficult to keep from all members of the family are demanding of their conditions, they do not tolerate low temperatures, some like “salty” water, like bright light, etc.
You can read more about MOLLINESIA here.
5th place Tetras – Harazinki
All tetras are small, brisk, not capricious fishes. However, they will not be able to survive in “Spartan conditions” as guppies.
They need aeration and filtration. You can keep them in an aquarium by a group (from 5 individuals) with a volume of at least 35 liters of water.
You can read more about TETRAH here.
6th place Ternetsii
Very famous little fish. Fish energetic, mobile.
Fish get along well with other types of fish. Somehow my terntions even lived with small cichlids.
Recommended aquarium with a volume of at least 30 liters of water, densely planted with plants. Aeration, filtration – yes!
You can read more about TERNIA here.
7th place Danio (rerio, pink)
Starting from the 5th place TOP, all the fish require unpretentious attention. Tanks are different from them – briskness and speed of movement.
They can coexist with many species of fish, even with fish of medium and increased aggression: scalar, goura and even with small cichlids.
Read more about DANIO here.
8th place Torakatum
One of the famous large catfish of the aquarium world and excellent attendants of the aquarium. Peaceable and unpretentious to the content.
They can be kept in a common aquarium with thickets of plants and a large number of shelters. Fish, do not pose any threat to other inhabitants of the aquarium.
Compatible with all kinds of fish. The neighbors are not recommended only one hundred percent aggressors and predators.
You can read more about TORAKATUM here.
9th place Gourami
Gourami – are medium sized fish. Entered in this TOP due to gill labyrinth – fish do not need aeration, they breathe atmospheric air. Really peaceful fish, but sometimes aggression.
Some individuals taken separately are even very aggressive, as they say, as lucky. You can read more about GURAMs here.
10 place Barbus
Barbusses are schooling, small fish that can stand up for themselves! If you decide to start a barbus, I recommend to allocate for this a separate aquarium, “barbusyatnik.”
“Pirate” temper, the ability to stand up for themselves – deserve 10th place. You can read more about BARBUSH here.
Of course, the above TOP is conditional – always remember the words
