Veiltail goldfish: conditions in the aquarium

Good day. The veiltail goldfish belongs to the carp family and is a selectively bred form of Carassius Auratus.

In aquariums, it is common, especially among beginners. But often, due to improper maintenance and care, aquariums with goldfish give newcomers a headache.

But first, let’s look at the appearance and sexual dimorphism.

Veiltail goldfish is considered the most common species among all goldfish. Her body is ovate, rounded. The head is big, like the eyes.

On sale can meet varieties with scales and without. The color of the veil tail may be different: from golden to black.

You can also see spotted voiletails whose fins are painted in different colors.

The tail and anal fins are transparent and have an elongated shape. The tail of the fish is the most important decoration.

It consists of several fins, fused together, which form folds resembling a veil. There are fish in which the tail exceeds the length of the body of the fish six times.

The body length of the fish, as a rule, does not exceed 20 centimeters.

Veiltail goldfish is a peaceful hydrobiont that gets along beautifully with other peaceful species of fish, but it’s better, of course, that you keep them in a decorative aquarium. Aquarium is needed spacious, for one fish you need 50 liters per fish.

The best option would be a 100 liter aquarium for a pair of fish. If you have a larger volume of the aquarium, then in this case, you can increase the density of landing of gold fish.

Accordingly, in a 150-liter aquarium 3-4 fish can easily get along, in a 200-liter – 5-6 fish.

But note that when you increase the number of fish in the aquarium, you will have to increase the aeration of the aquarium. Prepare for the fact that scrofula will have you do the redevelopment of the soil, they love to rummage in the substrate.

In order not to raise so much dregs, it is better to use small pebbles or large river sand as a substrate, so it will be harder for them.

As I said above, the aquarium needs a species and roomy. Large-leaved plants are planted in the jar, as the valehvosts quickly destroy delicate plants, or a dense layer of turbidity settles on them.

In order for plants to remain intact, they must have a strong root system and hard leaves. The best option would be spiral Vallisneria, Canadian Elodieia, sagitart, pods.

The aquarium should have powerful filtration and aeration. Goldfish are not very demanding on the chemical parameters of water. The main thing is not to forget, regularly change the water, the hardness should be within 8 – 25, the active reaction of the medium is within 6 – 8 pH, the water temperature – 22 – 24 degrees.

In food, hydrobiont is unpretentious, so you can feed almost anything and in large quantities. Given this nuance, do not overfeed fish.

The amount of daily feed should be about 3% of the body weight of the fish. Feed scrofula need twice a day, the first feeding early in the morning, the second – in the evening. The amount of food is determined quite simply: the feeding process should take 10-20 minutes, and all that remains is not eaten, you need to remove from the aquarium using a funnel.

An adult individual, who was kept in good conditions and eaten properly, can easily withstand a week-long starvation.

Vailtail fish spawns in a separate aquarium, the volume of which is 20-30 liters. Sandy aquarium soil is placed in the spawning ground and small-leaved aquarium plants are planted there. One female and a pair of adult males are selected for spawning.

Before spawning, growers should be kept apart from each other for a couple of weeks and actively fed. The water temperature in the spawning should be within 24 – 26 degrees.

To stimulate spawning, the water in the aquarium should be gradually increased by 5 – 10 degrees. In this case, the males will begin to scamper around the aquarium and chase the females, who at this time will start losing their eggs.

Eggs will be deposited on the leaves of aquarium plants. During spawning, the female can sweep up to 10 thousand eggs.

At the end of spawning producers need to be removed from the aquarium. Starter feed for fry – live dust.

In addition to live dust, fry can be fed a variety of special food, which are sold in almost any pet store.
