Types of aulonocara: from queen to dragon

Aulonokara Multicolor

In the perch-like detachment, the attention of many is attracted by the South African Malawian cichlids with the bizarre name aulonocara. Among the currently known 20 species there are individuals of almost the whole range of colors: pink and yellow, reddish and neon, blue and ruby. The result of the breeders’ efforts is the aulonocara multicolor, a variegated original fish that is not found in wildlife.

To this day, restless lovers of new discoveries are working on breeding new options.

Aulonokara red flash

Aulonokara red flash is a medium-sized bright representative, the male and the female of which differ in color. The male is blue and has an orange-red spot in the gill area.

Women’s – purple-grayish, decorated with visible vertical stripes. Refers to small options (in the aquarium can reach no more than 15 cm).

Flash water is sensitive to little hardness. Feels comfortable at a temperature of 24-27 ° C.

He likes strong aeration and does not tolerate pollution in the water.

Aulonokara pink

Aulonokara pink is a wonderful fish, non-capricious and easy to maintain. Having a size of 13-14 cm, it looks like a delicate pink speck in an aquarium.

Despite the fact that the cichlid is calm and peaceful. Loves “society”, contain

recommended from 8 pieces.

Aulonocara marmalade can not boast of a large size (up to 6 cm), but stands out for its character. It feeds on the bottom.

It has a very sensitive sense of smell and feels the movement of animals living in the depths of the ground. Almost always lives in the bottom space.

Males – the owners of the territory.

Aulonokara red ruby

The red ruby variety is characterized by the contrasting appearance of individuals of different sexes. The boy is bright red-orange, expressive and noticeable. The girl is faded and modest.

Vague stripes on the sides are often noticeable on a light beige background. The temper is tough and aggressive, it requires free space, although it does not differ in large size.

Like other representatives, polygamous: 2-3 males are recommended for one male. They live in the lower part of the aquarium, capturing the middle part of the journey.

Aulonokara Red Dragon

Aulonocara firefish (red dragon): large head, elongated dorsal fin, bright red-pink color. Despite the eloquent name, the individual is peaceful and calm. Sometimes it seems that she does not pay attention to the neighbors at all.

However, a little excited during the spawning period. It requires large-scale river sand as soil, since spawning is associated with nests in it.

For the maintenance of the aulonokar multicolor, an aquarium of 200 liters and a company of 6-10 similar individuals are recommended. The mood and appearance of the fish depends on the purity of the water and the degree of its saturation with oxygen. Plants do not notice, but the presence of shelters, grottoes and flat stones are required.

Over the light will have to work. The fact is that preference is given to rays of a certain frequency, creating a diffused soft light and shading red shades advantageously.

Get on with labidochromis and kopadichromis; do not quarrel with the blue dolphin; coexist peacefully with catfish.

The aquarium world is well acquainted with aulonocara nyasa. Received for the chic appearance of the name “Queen”, she fully justifies it.

In nature, it is found only in the African lake of the same name, preferring very clean water and freedom of movement.

aulonokaro nyasa

Among aquarists often plays the role of special pets, which are proud and boast. Such pets are able to communicate with their master, welcoming when he approaches.

Fish communicate with each other: their expressive gestures are often accompanied by special sounds.

Like many fish, anulonocara in adulthood reaches the size of 15 cm, has a large head and characteristic depressions in the gill area.

Interesting color diversity by gender. According to the descriptions, you can find males blue, multicolor, yellow and even ruby.

A combination is possible in which the colors smoothly transform into each other.

We love many kind of olive-green color. The fins at the same time have an expressive blue tint with black dots, except for the anal, which is full of red patches.

The most expressive is the blue color of the male nyas during the spawning period.

Favorite activity – filtering the soil in order to find any living creatures. Therefore, the bottom area should be as much as possible.

Calculating the amount of water needed at the rate of 50 liters per individual, the aquarium should not be made high, it is better to lengthen and expand the configuration.
