Tsikhlazoma black-striped: how to make her life prosperous

The first idea of the nature of such fish as the black-striped cichlase can be obtained from the fact that they belong to the cichlid family. They have an interesting appearance, active behavior and, according to many aquarists, a real intellect.

In some ways there is a resemblance to akara, but it is only external.

In the second half of the XIX century, the fish was found in the waters of Central America. These are small streams or rivers with a rocky bottom and moderate current.

Guaramo, Aguane, Tarkoles – rivers with a rocky bottom and a lot of natural shelters – the place of their natural habitat and biological well-being.

Today, its popularity in America and on the European continent can be envied by any less studied breed of aquarium inhabitants.

Possessing predator habits, it is inclined to get food for itself in a variety of ways. It extracts insects and their larvae, eats caviar and fry of other fish, gnaws young shoots of plants.

The appearance of black-striped tsihlaz bright and expressive. Often its size is 10-15 cm.

This is the smallest of all cichlids, but, like all, possessing a sharp character and waywardness.

Distinguishing between male and female is easy. Males have large sizes, but less contrasting color.

Their fins are elongated and directed clearly backwards.

The oval shape of the body, leading to an obtuse angle, is the anterior end, which is directed behind the dorsal and lower fins.

Color more often – bluish-gray. A distinctive feature – 8-10 dark vertical stripes, moving on to the transparent fins. In the area of the gills, the bands intersect and look like the letter V.

On the sides of the head are two black bead-eyes, slightly rotating to the sides.

The decoration is bluish fluorescent points on transparent fins and tail. Light orange specks are often noticeable on the sides of the body.

Here is a color cacophony.

During its existence, the cychlasms underwent hybrid reincarnations. As a result, individuals with atypical coloration, the so-called albinos, appeared.

On their body there are no stripes and spots, but the shapes of the fins retained their species characteristics.

Black-striped albino tsikhlazoma graceful and gentle. All her white body seems to glow from the inside.

Despite the large size, it moves easily and actively, and the character has an “explosive”.

The second interesting species – the black-striped tsikhlazoma flamingo – has a small pale pink striatum. The fins contain more pink pigment, which is why the light gives the impression that the fish is delineated around the perimeter.

The descriptions of flamingos may contain various options: from single pink-white to striped.

The nature of the fish is absurd and cocky. She can even attack comrades larger than herself, if she feels encroachment on “her part of the aquarium.”

Such proprietary characteristics are characteristic of cichlids, but they are especially developed in cichlosis.

Because of these qualities, you should not try to establish friendship between them and the more peaceful inhabitants of the aquarium, except to pick up species that live in the upper layers of water.

Cichlasomes cannot live in small amounts of water: they need space, clean water, aeration and mobility of water layers. Care is not difficult, but requires care.

For a pair of young individuals, at least 100 liters of water is necessary; for those who have entered the mature phase, at least 250 liters.

Such aquarium inhabitants are characterized by an increased ability to “pollute the reservoir.” Therefore, the presence of a powerful filter in the system is required.

The parameters of the microclimate in a water house are not as fundamental as for some other fish. Temperature fluctuations from 24 to 28 ° C and acidity from 6 to 8 are permissible. There are also no special complaints about the hardness of the water used.

What should the aquarium world look like so that the striped tsikhlazome was comfortable in it? It:

  • clear water;
  • rocky ground;
  • the presence of grottoes, fortifications, natural rocky passages;
  • ornaments from snags and artificial materials.

To rummage in the ground, turn over stones, dig up the roots of plants – these are the favorite activities of such original creatures. At the same time, they clearly “outline” their territory and zealously protect it.

It is difficult for other species to live with the Cichlasomes: they do not like competitors and do not need friendship.

It is difficult to name the types of fish in which compatibility with tsikhlazomami perfect. Rather, they put up with their own kind.

Prosperous content largely depends on proper nutrition.

On numerous photos and videos posted on the Internet, you can see how interesting the food intake process takes.

You need to feed a variety of, but metered. The diet should contain food of different nature: live, frozen, dry, vegetable.

They love small crustaceans and minced fish, with pleasure eat crushed shrimps and meat fractions.

For fry, you should provide a pipe worker, bloodworms, biological additives.

The caution lies in the fact that it is easy to overfeed the fish, provoking non-adherence. it is better to give food twice a day, but little by little.

Reproduction of black-striped cychlasms is an interesting and informative process. Many are engaged in their breeding, without applying additional stimulation. Partly thanks to him, the mind is attributed to the cychlosomes.

Shortly before spawning, a pair of producers begins to clean the surface of stones for laying caviar on it.

The male takes upright position in front of the female in order to profitably present their beautiful coloring.

The female lay eggs, which is immediately fertilized by the young “father of the family.” At the same time, both individuals carefully guard their offspring and fan them with fins for greater concentration of oxygen in its region.

You should not set parents aside, since in the future the role of the female is to observe how the roe will ripen. The male drives aliens away from the calf.

If a couple lives in common with other aquarium fish, it is worth planting it to spawn in order to spawn. So progeny will be provided with effective protection.

The necessary contents of the breeding tank are elementary: at the bottom there is a separator grid and equipment that supports the necessary water characteristics.
