The most unpretentious and small aquarium fish with photos

I think many aquarium fish experts will agree that the first place is given to guppes.

Everyone probably knows these fish … even those who have never seen aquariums. We can say that these fish are the fish of all children of the former USSR (they were in all Soviet aquariums))).

The fish is very beautiful and unpretentious. The tail fin is her beauty.

The simplicity of the fish is that it can withstand “difficult conditions of detention.” I happened to see an aquarium with guppies. without aeration, without filtering, without plants, without proper feeding etc. – horror, terrible dream aquarist.

Nevertheless, guppies managed not only to survive in such an aquarium, but even tried to multiply. So to mock the fish of course not worth it.

But their endurance and vitality sometimes affects.

2nd place Swordtails

A very famous fish, as a result of persistent selection, a large number of swordtails of various colors and shapes were bred. Males differ from females by the presence of a “sword” on the lower edge of the caudal fin.

Swordtails are kept in flocks in a densely planted aquarium. The minimum size of the aquarium from 10 liters (but better is more).

A good volume of aquarium for a small group of swordtails is 50 liters.

An interesting fact about these fish is that the female swordtail can, at some point, become a male, i.e. change the floor. This is due to the struggle for the survival of the species.

Read about swordsmen more in detail here.

3rd place Somiki corridors

It should begin with the fact that all aquarium catfish – a priori unpretentious. Moreover, they are “orderlies of the aquarium world”: they clean the soil and eat the remnants of life activity. The corridors are chosen from all catfish, since

in addition to the gill, they have intestinal respiration, those. if aeration stops, they will live for a long time.

The fish are very peaceful, calm. They slowly swim along the bottom in search of food. In the aquarium they are usually kept in flocks.

Fish, do not pose any threat to other inhabitants of the aquarium.

You can read more about CORRIDORATUS here.

4th place Mollies

Molly, like guppies – viviparous fishes. Unpretentious and tolerant of poor conditions.

Nevertheless, they are more capricious than the “troika of winners”.

Fish suitable for beginners and young aquarists. The fishes most difficult to keep from all members of the family are demanding of their conditions, they do not tolerate low temperatures, some like “salty” water, like bright light, etc.

You can read more about MOLLINESIA here.

5th place Tetras – Harazinki

All tetras are small, brisk, not capricious fishes. However, they will not be able to survive in “Spartan conditions” as guppies. They need aeration and filtration.

You can keep them in an aquarium by a group (from 5 individuals) with a volume of at least 35 liters of water.

You can read more about TETRAH here.

6th place Ternetsii

Very famous little fish. Fish energetic, mobile.

Fish get along well with other types of fish. Somehow my terntions even lived with small cichlids.

Recommended aquarium with a volume of at least 30 liters of water, densely planted with plants. Aeration, filtration – yes!

You can read more about TERNIA here.

7th place Danio (rerio, pink)

Starting from the 5th place TOP, all the fish require unpretentious attention. Tanks are different from them – briskness and speed of movement.

They can coexist with many species of fish, even with fish of medium and increased aggression: scalar, goura and even with small cichlids.

Read more about DANIO here.

8th place Torakatum

One of the famous large catfish of the aquarium world and excellent attendants of the aquarium. Peaceable and unpretentious to the content. They can be kept in a common aquarium with thickets of plants and a large number of shelters.

Fish, do not pose any threat to other inhabitants of the aquarium. Compatible with all kinds of fish.

The neighbors are not recommended only one hundred percent aggressors and predators.

You can read more about TORAKATUM here.

9th place Gourami

Gourami – are medium sized fish. Entered in this TOP due to gill labyrinth – fish do not need aeration, they breathe atmospheric air.

Really peaceful fish, but sometimes aggression. Some individuals taken separately are even very aggressive, as they say, as lucky.

You can read more about GURAMs here.

10 place Barbus

Barbusses are schooling, small fish that can stand up for themselves! If you decide to start a barbus, I recommend to allocate for this a separate aquarium, “barbusyatnik.”

“Pirate” temper, the ability to stand up for themselves – deserve 10th place. You can read more about BARBUSH here.

Of course, the above TOP is conditional – always remember the words

Many undemanding fish can easily breed in aquarium conditions. The only exception is haracin, which breeding is only possible for experienced aquarists. For beginners in breeding recommended all types of viviparous toothed fish.

And speckled catfish, antsistrusy can easily spawn in the general aquarium. Also easy to breed danios and barbs.

Labyrinths build foam nests, and cichlids bear offspring in the mouth.

However, in order to be sure of the safety and comfort of spawning fish, it is better to provide them with a separate aquarium and find out if they have a predisposition for cannibalism in order to avoid the death of their fry.

Aquarium pets, which are easy to maintain, pose no problem for responsible beginners in the water world. But the lazy owners of the aquarium will have to comply with the conditions necessary for the normal functioning of the fish, such as clean water and timely feeding, as this will depend on their lifespan.

Otherwise, even the most unpretentious fish will not be able to stretch for a long time.

The most unpretentious fish in an aquarium are viviparous, which originate mainly from the family of the petilium carpsaids. These fish breed independently in the general aquarium, and their fry are able to obtain their own food.

The most popular such viviparous unpretentious fish, like guppies, petilles, mollies, swordtails.

Almost all pezilliums have a mild disposition and get along with many kinds of small fish. For these representatives of viviparous, it is important to have a large number of shelters and thickets of plants in the aquarium, and they are not particularly sensitive to water parameters.

It is necessary to add only once a week 5 parts of water instead of evaporated liquid.

For beginners, aquarium lovers are also recommended for keeping fish from the barbus family. The most unpretentious barbs – Sumatran, which are very mobile and have a bright striped appearance.

Aquarium Sumatran barbs can live in a small container, holding flocks and perfectly adjacent to any suitable size fish.

Other unpretentious barbs such as shark and clowns live in aquariums from 100 liters. And the smallest barbs such as cherry and dwarf are perfect for a mini-aquarium.

Unpretentious aquarium fish for beginners: where to start?

In order to choose suitable fish, it is necessary to consider their features and, of course, focus on external data, size, color and other important parameters for you.

The speckled catfish is one of the most popular species among novice aquarists. It is able to survive in situations and conditions that are critical for other fish.

Its ability to survive temperature fluctuations from 2–35 ° C simply amazes many fish connoisseurs. Somiki can live in polluted and muddy water.

He is very hardy and when creating elementary conditions for life will delight you for a very long time.

Somik tarakatum is one of the largest species of fish and is considered very hardy. He is the orderly of the underwater kingdom.

One of the important conditions for its maintenance is the presence of vegetation in the aquarium, where he could hide. Dimensions are not essential for their life.

Get along well with almost all types of fish and are excellent neighbors.

Viviparous species: swordtails, mollies, guppies, patsilii are excellent for all types of aquariums and very easy to maintain. They are also the orderlies of the water world and the friends of plants.

Labyrinth fish is very unpretentious for an aquarium of any size and configuration. This species includes: macropod, cockerels, gourami, lyalius. Gourami have a gill labyrinth, due to which they can breathe air and do not need aeration.

Other types also do not need special care, the compressor and the presence of other equipment. It is necessary to take into account one minute – they are very mobile and males often fight among themselves.

Tetras are quite mobile, curious and crowded fish. They are hardy enough, but not enough to contain them without a filter, aerator and heater.

But it is worth noting that this is the most necessary equipment that should be purchased along with the aquarium.

Danio pink and rerio are unpretentious and beautiful aquarium fish that usually swim in flocks. These fish need a large aquarium (from 40 liters) so that they can swim freely.

It is necessary to cover it with a lid so that they do not jump out onto the floor. It is necessary to have an aerator, filter and heater available.

Barbus are also considered hardy enough fish. This is a kind of robbers, who always defend their place in the aquarium, and some species, such as the Sumatran barb, can snatch up to the fish with a beautiful big tail.

The choice and variety of unpretentious aquarium fish is very large. The main thing is not to forget that we are always responsible for our pets, and good conditions are a guarantee of their long life.

Hardworking spotted catfish

This fish has many names. Someone prefers to call this catfish speckled, someone – simple, someone – marble.

And some aquarists call the fish a straw shell. Probably, the fact is that this catfish belongs to the family of carapace.

If in a pet store you see fish in front of you with two pairs of antennae on the upper lip, pale brown fins and backs, dotted with specks and golden-pinkish flat abdomens, you should know: these are speckled catfish.

These fish are gregarious and very peaceful. They prefer aktivnichatsya at night, but do not hide during the day: swim around the aquarium and all the time crawling in the ground.

Spotted catfish are long-lived: some individuals live to be fifteen years old!

No wonder this fish is called unpretentious. Just think: it can survive even at a water temperature of only 2 degrees!

But it is better not to experience fish with such extreme conditions: the temperature is from 20 to 22 degrees – the best option. The speckled catfish perfectly feels in a tiny volume of the aquarium, and in not very clean water, and even in an aquarium without aeration!

And yet a caring aquarist should provide their pets with the most comfortable conditions. It is best to settle catfish in aquariums with a volume of at least 40 liters. It is preferable to place a shallow soil in the aquarium – the fish will gladly fumble in it.

They love catfish and shade: dense vegetation will please them a lot. In food, these fish are unpretentious: they will eat both dry food and live food.

But they begin to eat only when the food settles to the bottom – this is due to the structure of the mouth.

Cheerful and nimble daio-rerio

Fish of this species are very popular among novice aquarists. They have a long body and veiled fins.

There are different colors, but a distinctive feature – bright longitudinal stripes. Danio – nimble schooling fish.

Males constantly pursue each other, moving at the same time very gracefully – aquarists like to watch such games very much.

Fish are very unpretentious: 5 fish easily survive in a five-liter aquarium! But it is still better to give Danio space for games.

They are not exacting about the temperature of the water: these unpretentious fish for the aquarium will tolerate a gradual decrease in water temperature to 15 degrees. Even if the water warms up to 30 degrees, danios will feel great.

It is difficult to imagine a more elegant fish than the scalar. Angelfish are graceful and unhurried, but at the same time, pretty smart.

They will get along perfectly with any peace-loving fish.

Angelfish have a round, strongly flattened body. The fish resembles a crescent: this similarity gives it an elongated anal fin.

It is simply impossible to confuse a scalar with another fish. Angelfish come in different colors: there are black, red, zebras, marble, bicolor.

It is best to keep the angelfish in a high aquarium, but in the most ordinary they will not be lost.

Angelfish are really unpretentious. First, they managed to adapt to completely different conditions: they live in soft water and in hard water.

Temperature conditions do not greatly affect them: if necessary, they will withstand an increase in water temperature even up to 35 degrees! In terms of feeding, a novice aquarist with scalars will also have no problems: the fish will happily eat any dry and live food (although it is better to install special feeders for ease of feeding).

The underwater world is amazing and incredibly diverse – do not deny yourself the pleasure of admiring it!
