The maintenance of catfish Ancistrus, breeding and care

One of the unpretentious species of aquarium fish is catfish Ancistrus. It can be seen in many aquariums, as it not only attracts attention with an interesting view, but also brings benefits.

This fish with its unusual mouth perfectly cleans the walls, stones and algae from growths. It successfully contain both professionals of the aquarium business, and beginners, and all due to the fact that it is undemanding to care.

Som antsistrus – fish that is often found and breeds without problems in the conditions of a home aquarium

Distinguishing antsistrus from other types of catfish is quite simple, since mouth looks like a powerful sucker. The fish has a dark color, and in front of her are warty growths.

All this makes it not very attractive, but it is precisely this that makes it stand out among others.

Thanks to the corneous suckers, the catfish keeps well on the walls of the aquarium, and it can also cling to snags, stones or leaves. For almost a whole day, it stuck to searching for food and thus prevents the formation of algae and purifies water.

Its homeland is South America.

Ancistrus is best kept in spacious aquariums, as it is quite active, but in small volumes it also feels good. The main thing is that he had enough food, and there was enough place to hide. Therefore, in the aquarium where such catfish live, it is advisable to put snag, coconuts or ceramic pots.

And still need to take care of good water filtration, as these fish emit a lot of waste products.

The body of the Ancistrus catfish is flat and oblate, covered with polygonal bone plates.

Sticks even in large aquariums remain relatively small, their maximum length is about 15 cm. At the same time, the male Antsistrus is always larger than the female, and there are bushy spines on his head.

In the female, such growths are almost invisible or completely absent.

The color of these fish is different. Usually they are gray-yellow or black, and they also have light inclusions on the body. Much less common are catfish that are black with white dots.

Depending on the conditions in which they live, the color may become brighter or, conversely, paler.

The most common types of catfish are the following:

All these fish differ from each other in coloring, but according to external signs they are approximately the same. The life expectancy of som is approximately six to eight years.
