The carp koi is the perfect decoration for a home pond

Dear colleagues! Carp Koi, or as it is called Brocade Carp, belongs to the carp family. In fact, the koi carp is a decorative variety of just carp.

But in order to become koi, the fish needs to go through about six stages of selective selection. Today, the world knows about more than 80 species of this aquarium fish.

They, in turn, depending on the characteristics, are divided into 16 groups. Among them are variations that are very popular with aquarists around the world.

The variety of color of carp koi directly depends on the conditions in which the fish is contained, the quality of aquarium water, the presence of dyes in the feed and the intensity of illumination of the reservoir. Despite the fact that the colorings are a whole bunch and a small cart, this representative of the carp still has the basic colors: blue, red, black, orange, white, yellow and cream.

Adult carp can grow up to 90 centimeters in length.

This large pet lives long enough, as for the original fish – some individuals lived up to 30 years. And with such a life expectancy, the fish rarely die from a banal old age.

Most fish deaths are caused by the disturbance of captive carp conditions. Males have pectoral fins sharper and larger than females.

However, in body size, females are larger than males. With the onset of the mating season, small tubercles resembling semolina appear on the gill covers of the fish.

There are also some differences in the anus of females and males. The most common types of koi are: Kohaku, Sanke, Showa, Bekko, Tancho, Asagi, Golden Fire, Platinum Fire.

A pool, a pond or a small lake will be suitable for the maintenance of this carp representative, since only in such water bodies will there be enough free space and light for the fish, which are vital for maintaining a bright and original color. But not all lovers can get a pond or a lake on their plot for keeping carp. After all, you remember, the fish grows up to a meter in length and almost 6 kilos in weight.

Therefore, fish contain mostly large aquariums.

The content is very simple, as it is famous for its unpretentiousness. And as for me, check out the beauty of the various options for painting carps only through glass, and not through the surface of the pond, where everything is distorted.

But when keeping koi in aquariums, you should understand that the growth and size of pets directly depends on the volume of the aquarium. If there is not enough space, the fish severely retards its growth and then stops growing altogether.

As a result, you will swim in the bank 15-centimeter fish with neravnetskoy color than expected. Consequently, the more pond in which you keep carps, the faster and more they grow.

There is an unspoken rule: 5 centimeters of water minimum is necessary for a centimeter of length of carp koi. If you resort to elementary mathematics, then for fish 90 centimeters long and weighing 6 kilos you will need a capacity of 800 liters and excellent care.

It happened so, but koi need water that is well filtered and blown by air. Therefore, do not be lazy to put a powerful filter and organize aeration of the aquarium at the proper level. Aquarium water should have the following parameters:

  • total stiffness: 4-10 dGH;
  • carbonate hardness: 1-7 dKH;
  • nitrites and ammonium – by zeros;
  • nitrates – no more than 40 ppm

The optimum temperature of the water in which the brocade carps feel excellent – should be in the range of 15-30 degrees. But there were cases when the fish survived and more severe drops – from 2 to 35 degrees.

The active reaction of the water environment in the aquarium should be a little over 7 pH, but raising to 9 pH is not destructive.

Mollies, catfish, petilia, goldfish, gold carp, trout and gorchak are suitable as neighbors for brocade carp. As aquarium soil, you can use light fine sand, poured in a thick layer, medium pebbles and rounded gravel.

Equipment for the aquarium various aquarium decor must be carefully fixed so that during the next excavation of the soil the objects do not move and turn over. Proceeding from this, it is enough for you to install a couple of impressive stones and curtains.

Carp koi excellently eats both vegetable fodder and live food. For a brighter color, manufacturers add carotene to special foods.

But, as a rule, this supplement is not the only one, and the owners have to feed their pets with other foods containing pigments. It can be bloodworm, phytoplankton, shrimp, daphnia, snails and microalgae.

The pigments contained in these feeds give carpam brighter colors of red, orange and yellow.

Also, make sure that the remaining food does not contaminate the water. When feeding, food should be eaten all in 10-15 minutes, and all that remains to be removed using a funnel.

As siphon soil you already know, I hope. Like all aquarium fish, koi carp is prone to periodic overeating, so it is best to give in small portions.

It is not advisable to feed them once a day, as their digestive system will not be able to digest a large amount of food at a time.

After the carp reaches the mark of 23 centimeters in length, the fish becomes sexually mature. If the living conditions of the fish are ideal, the food is good and the health is excellent, then koi breed in the outer pond in late May – early June.

By this time, the water warms up to 20 degrees Celsius, which serves as an impetus for reproduction. Since in the conditions of the aquarium the fish does not grow to 23 centimeters, it’s unrealistic to spawn at home.
