Hello, friends. The topic of today’s article will be a four-tooth aquarium fish called Tetraodon Thailand.
As you understand from its name, the fish is found in freshwater lakes and streams of the island of Thailand. The tetraodon has a round-shaped body without scales.
Abdominal fins absent, spines scattered along the body and head. In addition to the spikes on the body as there are dark spots. There is a large black spot in the back of the body.
Males differ from females in larger tail fins, on which a red edging appears during the spawning period. Under natural conditions, the fish grows up to 12 centimeters, but in an aquarium its size rarely exceeds 10 cm.
The Thailand tetraodon is a very pugnacious and territorial fish, preferring to stay in shady places and other shelters. The male chooses a large stone, around which he nibbles all the plants.
When a danger occurs, the fish blows air into it and turns into a ball. Transport tetraodon only in thick-walled solid containers, because biting through a plastic bag fish is easier than ever.
As a rule, hydrobionts are kept in species aquariums of 5-6 pieces, and the tank’s capacity must be at least 200 liters.
At the bottom of the banks, you lay large flat stones, which the males will later choose for their territory. In addition, in the aquarium organize a huge number of all kinds of shelters in the form of heaps of driftwood, stones, thickets of plants.
Good shelter give floating plants such as pistii and Riccia. As the fish grows older, it increases aggression.
As a result, the aquarist has to replace weaker and smaller fish in another aquarium. The parameters of the hydrobiont content are as follows:
- water: 24-26 degrees;
- hardness: 10-20 dH;
- acidity: pH 7-8;
- weekly changes in the amount of 10% of the volume;
- consumes only live food (bloodworm, snails, earthworms)
At one year old, Thai tetraodons become sexually mature. Spawning should be at least 80 in volume. A large flat stone is placed in the tank itself and aquarium plants are planted thickly.
The light in the spawning should be muffled. To stimulate spawning, you can raise the water temperature to 30 degrees, make a partial substitution and feed the producers abundantly.
After the end of courtship of the male, the female spawns, and the male fertilizes her immediately. The male is caring for the calf, the female is deposited at this time. The incubation period is 5 to 8 days, and after two more days the fry swim independently.
Starter feed for fry: rotifers and nauplii artemia.
If you believe the long-term experience of aquarists who have been breeding Thailand tetraodon for years, then for spawning you need to select young adolescents in the amount of 5-6 pieces. The aquarium for them should be spacious enough (about 100 liters), it should contain a thick landing of aquarium plants.
And this is all for one pair of fish. It was also noted that if, during the week of producers, it is hard to feed the producers (the main thing is not to overfeed) and take a break of three days a day, then this is a good incentive for spawning. If there is no large flat stone, then you can use an ordinary saucer with a diameter of 10 centimeters, the convex edges of which will not allow eggs to fall on the aquarium soil.
Another interesting observation by the pros is that not every male is a caring dad, and they eat caviar thickly and often. However, such cannibalism is inherent only in young dads, as the fish grows up, such habits disappear.
