Tetra von Rio is a schooling fish, a bright representative of the Kharacin family. Tropical beauty easily adapts to any conditions of detention and rarely gets sick. The species was first described by Myers in 1924.

Since then, tetra firmly entered the aquarium world. Because of the simplicity of the content, it is often recommended for beginners.

The second name is a fiery, or fiery, tetra.

Tetra von Rio adapts well to conditions and rarely gets sick.

Under natural conditions, the tetra fonrio fish lives in South America, in the vicinity of Rio de Janeiro, and in southern Brazil. Loves rivers and streams with a slow current.

It feeds on aquatic plants, small crustaceans and worms. The life cycle is 3-4 years, body length – up to 4 cm.

Unpretentious and tenacious tetra von Rio, the content of which is easy, is a real find for a beginner. The main condition is a flock of at least 7 individuals. The main rules of care are as follows:

  1. Aquarium with a volume of 40 liters, filled with soft settled or filtered water, densely planted near the rear wall with plants that do not interfere with the free movement of fish. There must be shelters in the form of grottoes, caves, a ceramic pot or decorative coat can be half buried in the ground – tetras will appreciate this.
  2. Soil – any dark. Against its background, the fish will look bright and attractive.
  3. The lighting is subdued.
  4. Water fluctuations are moderate.
  5. Water temperature – from +23 to +28 degrees.

For the maintenance of the fish tetra suitable water with a temperature of + 23 to +28 C

  • pH – 5,5−7,0.
  • Salt is not needed.
  • Stiffness – 3−15.
  • Level – all the water layers of the aquarium.
  • Aeration and filtration are required.
  • Compatibility. The nature of the fish is livable, so the neighbors will suit them similar in nature to danios, guppies, mollies, rasbor, swordtails, other tetras, bottom fish – ancistrus, corridors.
  • Any home water body needs regular cleaning, as ammonia and other substances harmful to fish’s life accumulate over time, the percentage of which increases even more due to water evaporation and over-population of the aquarium. Underwater dwellers become uncomfortable, they try to stay near the surface of the water or start jumping out of the aquarium.

    To regulate the accumulation of harmful impurities, it is recommended to replace 25−50% of water at least 1 time in 2 weeks, depending on the number of fish.

    Tetras use dry, live and frozen food. From living prefer:

    • artemia;
    • bloodworm;
    • small crustaceans and worms.

    Dry food should be of high quality. Feed pets 2-3 times a day, in small portions.

    After three minutes, the excess feed is removed so as not to litter the aquarium.

    Tetras reach sexual maturity at 6 months. To speed up the beginning of spawning, males and females are seated separately in the breeders and fed only with live food.

    At this time, the spawning tank is prepared with a volume of 4 to 10 liters, at the bottom of which a separator net is placed so that parents do not eat caviar. Poured boiled chilled water, maintaining a temperature of +24 degrees, pH – 6.5, dH (hardness) – 10.

    For breeding, males and females are first seated and fed with live food.

    Spawning strew with Javanese moss, serving as a substrate for spawning. Manufacturers are placed in the aquarium in the evening – first males, then, after a few hours, females – in the proportion of two or three males per female.

    Spawning begins in the morning. The female sweeps up to 400 eggs. Caviar falls and falls through the separator net to the bottom.

    Immediately after the end of the spawning of manufacturers, they are rejected.

    After 24 hours, the larvae appear. The separator grid is immediately removed, after shaking it. After 3-4 days, the fry are already actively swimming and well fed with fine powdered food (Artemia naupilia or Cyclops).

    Kids are very sensitive to light, so it is recommended to shade the aquarium.

    The owner It is important to maintain constant aeration of the aquarium.. Kids are very demanding on oxygen.

    After two weeks of grown-up fish are placed in the main aquarium.
