Tetra Loreto: content and breeding guide

Before starting a conversation about the hero of our today’s article, I would like to recall the times when the haracin were the common favorites of many aquarists. Every new species of bird markets waited with great impatience, because the lovers terrorized the fish farmers.

Serious passions regularly boiled around each novelty, and for the future offspring amateurs were recorded for the months ahead.

Professional breeders helped novice aquarists with free advice and shared with them the secrets of aquarism. That is, aquarium a couple of decades ago was considered a spiritual brotherhood, where enthusiastic people were spinning.

However, today aquaria turned into a real business, where many inexperienced merchants settled. If you need to get good advice, then a novice aquarist is forced to seek help on the Internet.

The first large batch of Tetra Loreto fell almost a century ago into the Hamburg aquarium. A little later, this fish was brought from Europe to us.

However, due to some difficulties in the cultivation of this fish was not able to get the audience award.

Hydrobiont got its name because of its habitat (Loreto region in Peru), where the Rio Meta River flows. This region is famous for its “black” distilled water saturated with humic acids.

The temperature of the water in season can vary between 16 and 26 degrees. If the temperature is higher than this, the fish will literally burn for a couple of months.

Unfortunately, tetra Loreto is highly susceptible to food toxicosis and changes in the hydrochemical parameters of water. It was noted that the fish easily pick up all the local sores, especially often aquatic animals suffer from neon disease, which is not treated.

It is for this reason that lovers of haratsine maintain their new pets in prophylactic treatment solutions of methylene blue and trypaflavin.

But in pure soft water with an acidic environment, the optimum temperature and the weak flow of the tetra, they feel excellent in the general aquarium, playing regularly with the neighbors in the aquarium. Fish that are similar in behavior and size are considered to be the most ideal neighbors for Tetra Loreto: wedge-spotted rasbor, red and blue neons, cardinals, African dwarf pike, pearl gourami and mail catfish.

Puberty in Hyphessobrycon loretoensis occurs at the age of 6 months with a body length of 2.5 centimeters. The maximum length of these fish does not exceed 4 – 5 centimeters. Unfortunately, fish have no obvious sexual characteristics in terms of coloring.

Males have carved fins and their bodies are slimmer than females. There is a bright border around the edges of the fins.

A week before spawning, they add enthreusi to the diet of producers.

Inside a spawning aquarium with dimensions of 25 × 20×20 cm, you need to place a pair of Brazilian peristrist bushes or a large bush of javanese moss. Hydrochemical parameters of water should be the same as in the dilution of red neon:

  • Active medium reaction 6.2 – 6.5 pH;
  • Carbonate hardness not more than 2 degrees;
  • The water temperature is 26 degrees.

The most active producers are placed on spawning even in the evening on the eve of the intended spawning. In the morning, the sunlight will be an irritant and the fish begin to spawn.

Tetras are pressed to each other with sides shaking convulsively, scattering amber small eggs to the bottom of the aquarium.

The fecundity of one female can have up to 150 eggs, but the fry are four times less at the exit than the eggs. The incubation period of caviar is 36 hours, and on the fifth day the larvae try to swim independently.

Nauplii rotifers are the starting food for fry. A week later, well-washed artemia is added to the diet.

The juvenile tetra Loreto grows very slowly and by the month of life the fish do not exceed the centimeter mark.

Adult fish feed mainly on cyclops, coretr, special compound feeds and moinas. It is not recommended to overfeed fish, because females after overeating often cysts.

Under the conditions of bondage tetras can live from two to four years.
