Ternesia: how much is it a mourning tetra?

The Kharatsin family includes many representatives of aquatic fauna worthy of the warmest attitude. They are sweet and harmless, cheerful and active.

This is exactly The fish ternation (Gymnocorymbus ternetzi) is a South American by origin and easily adapted for aquarium life in our latitudes.

The species has an unremarkable appearance:

  • silver round body (classic version) with a fan-shaped dorsal and pectoral fin;
  • size up to 5 cm;
  • three transverse dark stripes, including around the eyes;
  • figure tail, beautifully in harmony with the fins.

Ternesia is an aquarium fish that prefers an active lifestyle, loves free space and leads a pack way of life. In her character to hide in the shade of algae and get some rest from everyone. However, snags, caves and other design features are not interesting to her.

She has no cognitive spirit in her character.

Like all unpretentious creatures, thorns are fish without any frills. The optimum water temperature ranges from 21 to 24 °, the acidity index is not lower than 5.7 and not higher than 7. Water hardness does not matter much.

Acceptable figure in the area of 6-16. If the parameters of the underwater microclimate deteriorate, the fish will still live, maybe less active, and reproduction will be questionable.

A mobile lifestyle is always characterized by intense metabolism and the need for energy. Fish is no exception.

Therefore, gymnocorymbus ternetzi just needs clean water supplied with oxygen, a sufficient volume of the aquarium (from 10 liters per pair) and a team of like-minded people (the schooling character makes itself felt).

Veil of thorns

First of all, about beauty. Veil thorny is a breeding variant, decorated with a beautiful tail, for which the fish received a characteristic (in a skirt).

It has an openwork pattern and a soft structure, may have a black color and look like a special emphasis on the body.

In contrast, the termination of albino is practically uncolored. However, its pale appearance can be used to create a certain charm. Tenderness and helplessness it gives the atmosphere

Albino ternetia

created in the aquarium bright massive algae and red swordtails with a clearly defined relief of the body.

Lovers of romance will love the thorny purple. Her and similar pink version is popularly called “candy” – they are so pleasant looking and cause positive emotions.

And finally, the termination of multicolor. With its fluorescent brilliance and extravagant

Purple thorns

a set of shades. A truly exotic creation of human hands.

Interestingly, the unusual color may not extend to the tail: it is possible that it is still black or green.

In addition, the long and fan-shaped tail fin can look sad. It occupies the back half of the lower torso line.

Thanks to him, the second name appeared – the mourning tetra.

The options described do not differ in biological characteristics and lifestyle.

Multicolor ternetia

The answer to the question: “Termination: content?” Is largely determined by the diet and diet. Ordinary fish food – the best that you can offer them. Dry and lively food, synthetic and natural.

Possible frozen options (bloodworm, daphnia, artemia). Optionally – vegetable feed, including self-produced.

Fish is not proud: for food can rise to the surface or pick it up from the bottom. But not eating much.

Therefore, it looks outwardly fragile and vulnerable.
