Successful breeding antsistrusov at home

Good day, dear colleague. With you, as always, Andrei Selitsky, the author of this aquarium diary online, and I prepared another post on breeding antsistrusov.

I think many beginners and not-so-starting aquarists at least once held the ancistrus in their water, aren’t they?

It is on this basis that I decided to write about how to breed antsistrusov at home and without making great efforts. I already have one article on the blog about fish breeding, you can read it here. Well, I want to continue filling this column, because the materials in it are as much as 1 🙂 I will correct this shortcoming, as many people think about the cultivation of antsistrus and not only them, but how to do this is not known to everyone.

We will shed light on this topic. And so, let’s go.

As you know from this article, antsistrusy are the cleaners of aquariums and in fact the orderlies of the underwater world. If you did not know this, then you are welcome here.

In it, I talked about friends of aquarium plants, including the hero of my article today. Well, I still continue, but something is constantly distracted 🙂

So, if you want to see the offspring of the antsik and spawning itself, you must adhere to special recommendations and certain rules, or there will be no business. Suppose you bought antsistrusov, they grew from you and reached puberty, what to do next with our fish?

First you need to decide on their gender. Fish become sexually mature in the year and since then can breed.

It is not difficult to distinguish who is who in antsikov: males have special “horns” on the face, which grow decent size. The females may not have them, and if all the same they are, it is not so pronounced. Next, catch a pair of antsistrus spawning and add to this aqua substrate for spawning.

As a substrate, you can take an interesting form of stones or ceramic tubes. You can also buy a ceramic castle in a pet store, it will also work.

But it is better to use my advice and stick in a spawner some ceramic pot, cup or ceramic tube. So it will be more convenient for you and the fish. Here are a few criteria by which the substrate must be assessed for spawning:

– the length of the ceramic tube should not exceed two lengths of the male selected for spawning;

– tube width should be the width of a male with fins. There are of course, plus a few centimeters, but that is enough;

– do not pick up the tube;

If you have some difficulties with spawning aquarium and you don’t have one, don’t worry, you can also breed ancistrus in a common pot. However, the ideal option is to drop a pair of fish into a separate container.

Do not forget to filter well and aerate the water in the jar.

If you blinked like a couple of antsikas, spawned and you suddenly stumbled upon it in the substrate, panic to the side. Just take the substrate and transfer it carefully along with the roe to the spawn.

Along with this whole affair, we don’t forget to transfer the male to the same jar, as he will guard the spawn.

As a spawning aquarium do not take a jar of large volume, 40-liter aquarium is enough. Why am I focusing on a bailout and not on a common aquarium? The fact is that the fish selected for spawning will feel calmer and more confident than in a bank with different neighbors (barbs or neons).

The main thing in spawning is to maintain a constant water temperature of about 27 degrees, well enrich it with oxygen and do not bother about the composition of the water. The main thing is that the water was clean, and everything else is nonsense.

Antsik larvae will be born from the eggs after 5 days, and in the meantime a caring dad guards the nest with caviar and with the help of its fins creates a stream of water in the pipe. Somewhere in 4-5 days, the larvae will turn into fry, and the male can be removed from the spawn. From the first days of life, the fry should be fed with special fry feeds, preferably dry and tableted.

Just as an option, you can cook lettuce or cabbage, finely chop pipemakers. Every day, do not forget to change one-fifth of the water and feed the younger generation three to four times a day.

I have it all. Thank you for taking the time to read the post.

Bye everyone!
