Sevelia Lineolata: content, description

Psevdoskat seveliya lineolata – peaceful, interesting behavior fish. Like many fish, Sevelium lineolata likes good filtration and aeration. Does not tolerate excessive concentrations of nitrogenous compounds – NH4, NO2, NO3. It is advisable to keep them in flocks

5 individuals per 100l.

Family: Balitoridae.
Water temperature: 20-24.

Fish size: 5-6 cm.

Live up to 6 years.

Habitat is central Vietnam, the province of Thu Thien-Hue (the Huon River basin), the province of Quang Nam (in the Thu Bon river), in Quang Ngai (the Trà Khúc and Ve rivers) and in the Binh Dinh province (Lao river).

Seveliya lineolata (Sewellia lineolata) is a peaceful, very interesting fish, preferably kept with close relatives, such as befort. The conditions of detention are identical to all flat-fringed – the presence of powerful filtration and circulation of water, the water must be clean, well-enriched in oxygen, without nitrogen compounds.

To keep these fish is not very difficult, but it is not recommended to acquire them for beginners, especially in a small aquarium. For the maintenance of sevellia lineolata, an aquarium of at least 75 cm in length and 30 cm in width (volume about 90 liters or more) is recommended. Water should be clean, highly oxygenated.

Therefore, instead of the usual filters with a capacity that allows 3–5 times the volume of aquarium water to pass through, very powerful aquarium filters are recommended, passing through a volume of water 15–20 times per hour. Such a powerful filter is only the minimum necessary condition; it is additionally recommended to use a hinged power filter (waterfall) and a compressor.

As a decoration in the aquarium, you can use snags, but they must be old, well-soaked, not dyeing water, and therefore do not produce tannins. In addition, water staining reduces the effectiveness of artificial lighting, and this is an undesirable side effect.

The water in the tank should be as transparent as possible, it is good for light to pass through – this will promote the growth of algae and associated microorganisms.

Also on the sponge of the filter there are often healthy soms useful for catfish, so some amateurs use airlift filters in the aquarium so that the sponge is open and always accessible to the sullies.

Although aquatic plants are rarely found in the natural habitat of sevellia lineolate, various types of aquarium plants such as the Thai fern, anubias, and crinum can be contained in a catfish aquarium. Anubiases are especially useful because their leaves are prone to algae fouling.

Since Sevellia Lineolata needs stable water conditions and is fed by microorganisms, it cannot be run into an immature aquarium that has not passed the full nitrogen cycle. Also, the aquarium must necessarily be covered with a lid, since these catfish can literally climb on the glass.

Regular partial water changes should always be carried out in the aquarium. At the same time, all algae should be allowed to grow everywhere, except, perhaps the front viewing glass of the aquarium.

Recommended holding temperature: 20 – 24 ° C. The temperature of the water may be higher, provided that the fish will have enough oxygen dissolved in the water.
pH: 6.0 – 7.5;
Stiffness dGH: 1-10 °.
