Parrot fish or as it is also called red parrot (Red Parrot Cichl Breeders in Southeast Asia are trying to maintain a monopoly on getting these fish, although their appearance is very distinctive. Other aquarists have not been able to get offspring from these creatures.

The red parrot is a quite peace-loving fish, it got its name because of the characteristic shape of the head, which resembles the beak of a parrot, as well as its unusual body color. Parrot fish has many anatomical abnormalities, in particular a small mouth, which fish can only open vertically and at a small angle, which greatly complicates the feeding process.
In the aquarium, this fish grows to 10-15 centimeters, during the life of a parrot fish can fade, so it is advisable to feed it with special foods containing carotene.

These fish need enough space for swimming, so the volume of the aquarium should be at least 200 liters. It is desirable to create a current with the help of a pump; the optimum temperature regime is 22-26 degrees, the rigidity is in the range of 6.5-7.5.
Weekly you need to change up to 50% of the water, install an aerator. Since the parrot fish can jump out of the water, it is better to cover the tank with a lid, but the inhabitants of the aquarium plants do not show special attention.
The red parrot easily gets along with both peace-loving and predatory fish, but it is better not to contain it with small individuals. You can feed parrot fish both live and dry food, these pets please the owners with their funny behavior and bright color. Most males of parrot fish are sterile, so reproduction in artificial conditions is quite problematic.
If you raise the temperature of the water above 25 degrees, the red parrots wake up the instinct for reproduction, and they begin to build nests.

• No experienced aquarist outside Taiwan managed to breed this type of fish.
