Red-dotted iris: conditions of keeping and breeding

Reddish iris comes from New Guinean Lake Ajamaru. For the first time this fish went on sale in 1999. With her habits and colors, she resembled Boesman’s well-known iris, only her color is more even, and there are a number of longitudinal points along her entire body.

In addition, the fins of the red-iris iris are more lush, and the maximum size does not exceed 9 centimeters.

The body of males is humpbacked, brighter colored and larger than that of females. Fish reach sexual maturity at the age of 8 months.

Fish can spawn in common aquariums, but if you want to get the maximum of offspring, then you will have to keep the fish separate from their neighbors who do not mind eating their caviar.

Ideally, manufacturers should be planted in a separate aquarium with dimensions of 25 × 20×20 centimeters. About a third of the volume should be occupied by bundles of Brazilian and Javanese moss peristristum, because after spawning and rest, fish like to eat their own caviar. The principle of spawning is similar to all iris.

The male with the help of an intricate dance invites the female to the previously prepared nest. Connecting to a bundle of fish rammed thickets of plants.

Spawning takes place in portions, every day no more than 50 eggs, and within a week about 200.

The incubation period at a water temperature of 27 – 28 degrees is 8 days. Before hatching, it is better to remove the parents from the aquarium. The larvae are born very long.

To improve future offspring, you must periodically add anti-fungal drugs, or ozonated water.

Starter feed for iridescent juveniles – “live dust” and rotifers rich in vitamins. Fry melanotenii feed up to 6 times a day.

If the fry will be deficient in food, the likelihood of dystrophy and reduction in the number of young stock will increase by at least twice. As the fry grows older, you can add artemia nauplii to their diet.

With a good and balanced feeding, the fry per month reach a length of about 5 to 6 millimeters.

Adult fish eat almost everything that offers them aquarist. They are well fed in all layers of the water column, they can even pick up the remnants of food that was not eaten by their neighbors from the bottom. Just be careful, iridescents are prone to overeating and obesity.

It was noted that the fish quickly get used to any dry food, but insects are a favorite food.

In general, red dot iris can be considered hardy and unpretentious inhabitants of the aquarium. Water may be suitable for their content with the following parameters: hardness 8 – 12 dGH, active reaction of the medium 7.0 – 7.2 pH, temperature 23 – 30 degrees.

Infusor diseases are treated with antibiotics for 4 to 5 days.
