Hello dear readers. Natterer Piranha belongs to the Kharatsyn family and belongs to the Piranjev subfamily.
The home to the habitats of this predatory Kharatsinov fish are freshwater bodies of South America, and in particular the Amazon, Orinoco and La Plata river basin. As you know from American jungle films, piranhas attacked in flocks. In one flock there can be up to one and a half thousand individuals.
Literally for a few minutes, such a flock without problems gnaws to the bones of a large animal. Piranhas living in the Amazon are particularly aggressive.
Pirani Natterer has a tall, flattened body. On a large head you can see powerful jaws with large incisors. The lower jaw protrudes slightly forward, and on it are located the razor-sharp teeth, whose length can reach 5 mm.
When piranha attacks the prey fish, it bites through its teeth both soft tissue and bone. This is due to the powerful jaws, which are closed by solid pressure.
The tail fin of a fish is powerful enough, which allows it to move at breakneck speed.
But despite the aggressive nature of the piranha, it remains a rather beautiful fish. In young individuals, the body is painted in a silvery bluish tint. On the back more saturated colors.
Around the body of the fish scattering of dark round spots. Anal and ventral fins have a reddish tint.
As the piranha matures, its color gradually changes and becomes dark silver-gray. The spots on the sides also fade and the fish begins to sparkle in the light with golden sparkles. It also loses its reddish anal fin color, which acquires its former color only in the mating season.
Piranha has two broad black vertical stripes on the caudal fin.
Common piranha usually does not grow more than 20 centimeters in length, but there are cases when in nature there are 30-centimeter fish and its weight reaches 1 kg. But in conditions of bondage, they do not grow more than 20 centimeters. By the age of one and a half, the red piranha becomes sexually mature and their sexual dimorphism is weakly expressed.
Females are somewhat larger than males and have a full belly. It is also possible to distinguish the construction of the anal fin, which is rounded in males, and rounded in females.
In relation to the other inhabitants of the aquarium, Piranha Natterer is aggressive, it is also aggressive towards its relatives. But at the same time the fish is quite shy and can easily fall into a stressful state. For this fish to feel good, it needs a spacious aquarium with a volume of at least 200 liters, where you can plant a small flock in which the fish must have the same size and age.
Just make sure that the fish have enough free space for swimming and they feel comfortable. If the fish feel constrained, the likelihood of aggression inside the pack increases.
When you plan the design of your banks, you must organize stone caves, clutches of snags and plant live plants. That is, you must create conditions for your pets as close as possible to natural ones.
When you take care of this predator, be extremely careful. When you poke around in an aquarium, watch your hands, as a fish in a state of fear can injure you.
It is better to buy a metal net, thanks to which you can safely transplant your pets into another container.
Aquarium water must meet the following requirements:
- rigidity – no more than 6 °;
- active reaction – 6.5-7.0 pH;
- water temperature – 26-28 degrees.
Water should be as clean, well-aerated and subjected to high-quality filtration. These aquarium fish do not tolerate sudden changes in water temperature and chemical composition.
And those may result from a large partial substitution. Although the fish is not of enormous size, it is still very voracious. Thank God it’s not difficult to feed her, even a schoolboy can handle it.
You can feed fish with live food (bloodworm, sea fish, earthworms, low-fat beef meat and squid fillets). Here is such an interesting and aggressive aquarium inhabitant.
