Pink danios: peculiarities of keeping, care and reproduction

At one glance at a flock of bright and mischievous pink danios, the mood immediately rises. Nimble little fish – one of the most popular inhabitants of domestic ponds, and watch them very interesting.

But nevertheless, before launching new inhabitants into an aquarium, beginners should study the peculiarities of the maintenance, behavior and feeding of this beautiful species.

A great option for lovers of colorful fish – pink danios.

Danio belongs to the carp family and lives in small rivers and streams with standing cool water in India and Indochina.

An adult aquarium fish pink danios reaches a length of up to 5 cm, in nature you can meet danios 8 cm long. Life expectancy is 3-4 years.

The body is elongated, flattened laterally, light pink in color with longitudinal white stripes. The fins are transparent.

Along the edges of the small mouth are the antennae.

Fishes need free space for swimming.

Fish – excellent speed swimmers who love space. They live in the middle layers of water. Conditions for the maintenance and care of pink danios are simple, but certain parameters must be met:

  • Aquarium. A rectangular container with a volume of at least 50 liters and above is best suited.
  • Priming. Small pebbles or coarse sand are deposited on the bottom with a layer of not more than 4 cm.
  • Plants are planted in the background so that the fish have free space for swimming.
  • Lighting – fluorescent lamp, located closer to the front wall. And also need sunlight for about 2-3 hours per day.
  • Temperature range is kept within +25 degrees.
  • Aeration and filtration should be constant. It is also necessary to replace 20−30% of water at least 1 time per week.
  • Security. Danio is an excellent jumper, but during jumps the fish are disoriented and can fall unsuccessfully and damage the skin and internal organs, so the aquarium must be covered on top with a lid or glass.

Fish danio can be kept in the general aquarium, spacious and closed at the top.

Danio is a schooling fish and live in their own world without harming anyone. Aggression is alien to them. They coexist peacefully with the following species:

Relative compatibility:

Complete incompatibility:

Danios love to eat, so overfeeding them is not recommended to avoid obesity. Once a week you need to arrange pets fasting day.

You can feed both frozen and live and dry feed.

Fish eat with pleasure:

  • daphnia;
  • bloodworm;
  • small insects and their larvae;
  • any dry food.

When feeding only dry food may reduce immunity. It is recommended to periodically enter into the diet of live or frozen food.

Feeding fish should not be monotonous; both dry and live food should be included in the diet. Also, you need to take into account the preferences of individual fish.

Danio – hardy and tenacious little fish, but they are sick, like all other species. Characteristic diseases of the species are as follows.

Ichthyophthyriosis. The most common disease is ichthyophthyriosis, which most often affects immunocompromised individuals.

Also, the disease is provoked by such factors as a sharp drop in water temperature or an unhealthy diet.

The causative agent is an equal-respiratory ciliate parasitic on the body of fish. When infected with ichthyophthiriosis, a white rash appears (colloquially), the fins shrink as if they were stuck together, the fish begins to itch about the soil or scenery.

Sick pets are treated with bicillin 5. It is possible to carry out procedures both in the general aquarium and to isolate the fish in an otsadnik.

Plystophorosis. White spots appear on the body of the fish, eventually turning into open ulcers.

Depletion begins, fins are disheveled, danios begin to swim at an angle of 45 to 90 degrees. The treatment is carried out with such drugs diluted per liter of water:

  • erythrocycline – 50 mg;
  • Trichopol – 5 mg;
  • methylene blue solution – 10 mg.

In parallel, the aquarium is disinfected with a 5% solution of hydrochloric acid or bleach. Fish that are not improving are recommended to be destroyed.

Trichoniasis. The source of the disease – ciliates.

The fish is rubbing against all the objects that are in the pond at home. The body is covered with a gray bloom. The treatment begins with a rise in water temperature up to +31 degrees, enhanced aeration is mandatory.

Table salt is gradually added to the water: 1 tablespoon per liter of water. The salt concentration is maintained until complete recovery of the fish, the process of which lasts from two weeks to a month.

As the water changes weekly, it becomes less salty.

If the owner decides to breed, he must be able to distinguish the female from the male. Sex differences of fish become noticeable in 7−8 months.

The female is slightly smaller than the male; it has a more rounded body.

Attention should be paid to the following features:

  • Color – males are painted more brightly.
  • Body – females fuller and more.
  • Anal fin – in females it is longer and round.

According to the observations of experienced aquarists, the male can be distinguished from the female by behavior. He swims around her with great speed.

For fruitful breeding of aquarium pink danio fish, spawning is recommended to stimulate. To do this, the temperature of the water is raised to +29 degrees and is replaced daily by water.

It is important to create the right conditions in the chiller. If the spawning of pink danios is carried out for the purpose of breeding, you need a spawn of 10−15 liter, well, just to maintain the health of the female, even a three-liter can suits.

At the bottom of the outset, plants and other shelters are placed so that the female can rest from the active males. And also at a distance of two centimeters above the bottom level they lay a separator mesh or a simple gauze fabric so that parents could not feast on caviar.

Approximately two weeks before spawning, females are upset from males, kept separately and fed abundantly with live food.

The water level should not exceed 10 cm, the temperature is maintained within + 25−28 degrees, pH – 7−10, mandatory aeration. The breeder is placed in a shaded place, without direct sunlight.

Usually, a female and two males are placed on a spreader to spawn danio pink aquarium fish. Fish must meet the following criteria:

  • Not reached 1 year.
  • Visually healthy.
  • Eating well.

Two weeks before the start of spawning, manufacturers are seated in different containers. All this time they are abundantly reproached with live food:

Blowing is not recommended. Fatty foods can harm the danio’s health before spawning. After 14 days, males are placed in the bailout to get settled.

Then after a few hours, a female is brought to them.

At night, the lights are turned off, and in the morning you need to provide bright daylight or artificial light. If the spawning process has not occurred, then the female is not yet ready.

Producers are seated again, fed with live food and after a while the procedure is repeated anew.

Water for breeding pink danios should be fresh settled. Approximately one third is boiled for optimal stiffness.

The fry that have appeared first feed on the yolk sac. On their own, they begin to eat in 7–8 days.

For feeding use Artemia, rotifers or ciliates. If for some reason the feed is missing, it is replaced with boiled chicken yolk.

Preparation method of yolk feed:

  1. Egg boil, separate the yolk.
  2. A piece of yolk immersed in water, gently rubbed with his fingers.
  3. Water should settle, dregs settle.
  4. Clear water is poured into the aquarium. This is food for fry.

One yolk is enough to feed hundreds of small zebrafish.

Compliance with the rules of maintenance, care and feeding is the key to the health and longevity of the fish.
