Nile mnogoper: photos and how to keep in an aquarium

Dear colleagues! Nile Mnogoper or Bishir – is an aquarium fish from the family of multi-pons. Shallow waters of tropical regions of Africa serve as the birthplace of this aquatic animal.

Bishir is widely distributed from Guinea-Bissau to Somalia, as well as in the lower Nile. This geography of the spread of fish and made her that name.

Moreover, the Nile multihope is the only subspecies that lives in the Nile River.

The first written references to Bishir date back to the distant 1803 year. Today, this fish with two subspecies is a small species.

Just this kind was described under the name Mnogoperovye. The small genus includes the following Bishir species: Nile, Katanga and Lapradi.

Each bishir subspecies lives in a restricted environment. Also, each subspecies has its own specific morphological feature, thanks to which the fish can be distinguished from others. But Polypterus bichir has the following characteristics that allow it to be distinguished from its kindred relatives:

  • the upper jaw is slightly shorter than the lower;
  • the pectoral fins reach the first ray of the dorsal fin;
  • the body of the fish is flattened on the sides and sides, you can see the longitudinal stripes;
  • the abdomen is light, and the upper part of the body can be painted in olive or gray-green shades.

In young individuals of the Nile Bishir, clear longitudinal stripes can be seen on the sides, which become paler as the fish grow older. The color of the abdomen is white and gray. The abdominal and pectoral fins have yellowish transverse bands.

On the fins and the head there is a scattering of dark spots.

If you like small fish, then I’ll disappoint you, beefr grows large enough and for a couple of fish you will have to buy an aquarium of liters for 500-600. And when choosing an aquarium for their pets, the aquarist should be guided by the principle that the bottom area is important for the fish, not the height of the tank.

Smooth stones are laid on the bottom of the aquas, long-stemmed aquarium plants (Ludwigia, Wallisneria, Elodea, Cabomba, Ambulia) are planted into the ground and into the ground. In principle, the presence of living aquatic plants is not a mandatory condition, but in the case of their presence, the fish feel more comfortable.

It is mandatory to cover your pond with a lid, as the fish can easily leave the aquarium and throw off the skates. There must be enough space between the water and the lid so that the fish can swallow air. The conditions of detention of Nile Bishir are as follows:

  • water hardness: 5-25;
  • active reaction: 6.0 – 8.0 pH;
  • temperature: 22-28 degrees;
  • good filtering and regular cleaning of the aquarium are required.

Despite the fact that mnogoper quite calmly treats other inhabitants of the aquarium, he still likes to eat small fish such as neon, rasbor, minors and rhodostomusy. In the diet of Bishir must be present fish, but in the absence of such, it must be replaced by earthworms, mussels, bloodworms or shrimps. You can also give your pet cut fish.

In rare cases, fish can be taught to take dry granular food.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to find sensible information on the reproduction of the Nile multi-operative. To at least somehow compensate for gaps in knowledge, you can try proven methods for breeding other types of multidimensions.

As it should be, you need to organize conditions for fish as close as possible to natural ones. That is, you will have to simulate the rain season of tropical regions of Africa.

The aquarium water should be slightly acidic and soft. During the spawning period, the producers are transplanted into a large aquarium, which will provide the fish with enough space for marriage games.

During spawning, when the female spawns, the male inserts her anal fin, which is folded into a bowl, and then it fertilizes her. After the completion of the fertilization of eggs, the male disperses the eggs to aquatic plants. Based on this feature, there should be a large amount of substrate for spawning in the form of living and artificial plants in spawning.

Javanese moss is an excellent substrate for spawning. The incubation period of caviar is 3-4 days.

After another two or three days the fry swim and try to eat. Starter feed for young bishir – Nauplii Artemia and microcores.

Since small things are not very active, after feeding you should make sure that the little things are full.
