Nannakara Neon Blue: description, conditions of use and compatibility

This fish is the most exotic and mysterious inhabitant of the aquarium. It has many names: Nannakara Blue Neon, Electric Blue, Blue Neon, Neon Hybrid, Akara Neon and many others.

But no matter how it is called, this fish remains a real decoration of the home pond. And the main feature of the representative of the water world is that she does not have a division by types.

Nannakara neon is one of the friendliest members of the cichlid family.

In the wild, this fish is not found. It is a hybrid that was bred in Singapore by crossing cichlids living in America.

The result of such a selection was the appearance of a unique and extraordinarily beautiful fish, which was so loved by aquarists around the world.

Another version says that it was created as a result of the crossing of akara turquoise and akara bluish-spotted. The first mentions in the catalogs refer to 2012, which makes the species of fish relatively young, and therefore so interesting.

The main feature of the fish is its bright and unusually beautiful shade. Many aquarists call it a “bright flash” or “blue spark” for the delicate color of the scales.

Nannakara shimmers with all shades of green, blue and turquoise, which definitely will not let it get lost among the inhabitants of the aquarium. The beauty of coloring violates only the grayish tint of the head.

Fish can reach 10-15 cm in length, although they usually do not grow more than 10 cm.

This fish has a length of up to 15 centimeters., but individuals are more often 10 cm, therefore it is rather difficult to call it small. But females of nannakaras are much smaller. In general, the fish is represented by individuals with a high and flattened body from the sides.

This fish can be attributed to the strong and powerful individuals of the aquarium world.

The fin that runs along the back has a pointed shape in males, and in females it is more rounded, which distinguishes the female from the male. It is painted in the same shade as the scales, but at the very end there is a bright golden stripe.

Individual eyes have a red tint with black patches.

The life of a fish varies within five years. If the living conditions for her are created ideal, then she is able to live a full term without disease and problems.

Nannacara neon blue is unpretentious, has stable immunity, differs in endurance and peacefulness, which makes it desirable for both experienced aquarists and beginners. The fish perfectly adapts to any water conditions.

But do not forget that nannakara loves space and will defend its territory with all its might.

There are some characteristics that should be considered when breeding and breeding this species of fish:

  • The correct aquarium. In order to successfully contain one pair of hybrid, 70–80 liter capacity is perfect. But if it is planned to combine it with other varieties of aquarium fish, then a much larger capacity is required – up to 200 liters. In this case, the volume will be selected based on the number of neighbors, species diversity, and how compatible they are with each other. From above, the aquarium should be covered with a lid.

This species lives in the wild, is found in Central and South America from Panama to Colombia.

  • Priming. It is allowed to use both ordinary river sand and small pebbles as a primer. And you can also mix several types of coverage and add marble coral chips to them. But this is allowed only in the case when several species of cichlids live together in the aquarium, and there are no other species of fish.
  • Decorations. The cichlid nannakara anomaly will be appreciated by the various decorative shelters that will be located at the bottom of the aquarium. For this purpose, clay pots, small grottoes, plastic pipe figurines are perfect. If you plan to use as a decoration snags, then it is better to choose those that are made of stained wood or mopane. Flat stones should be included in the decor for throwing caviar.
  • Grass and algae. Plants in the aquarium with nannakara will feel great, because they do not like to dig the ground. The thicker the plantings will be in the aquarium, the more happy the fish will be. They are pretty shy and love to hide from prying eyes. But you need to have enough swimming space in the aquarium, so you should not place too many plants in it.
  • A prerequisite for arranging a home for fish is the presence of aeration and filtration. Pure and oxygenated water is a guarantee of a pet’s health and strong immunity. Every week, the water in the aquarium should be changed to a quarter.
  • Lighting should be moderate and as diffuse as possible.
  • Water should be no more than 22 degrees Celsius and preferably increased rigidity.

If these conditions are maintained regularly, the pet will feel excellent and its body will be able to resist possible diseases.

Keeping a neon nanakara is quite simple, because the fish is very unpretentious. It can eat both dry and live or frozen food.

But forget about the voracity of the pet is not worth it. The fish will not allow anyone to eat until it is completely full. Her priority is live food, so she will be very happy:

If the food will be based on dry feed, you should definitely add spirulina to them. And also it is possible to diversify the pet’s diet with scalded cabbage leaves or boiled zucchini. Nannakara will inspect the bottom for food residues and eat them.

Along the way, she will eat crustaceans or small shrimps, if they are on the bottom and walls of the aquarium.

Neon nannakars will happily enjoy both live food and high-quality dry food designed for cichlids.

Cichlids are predatory fish, and therefore the compatibility of nannakara blue neon in an aquarium is a rather delicate question. It is very important that she could not bite her neighbors.

The nature of the fish is formed on the basis of conditions of detention, nutrition and care.

During spawning, the pet may become more aggressive. But all his actions in relation to his neighbors will consist in simply pushing them out of his territory.

But small fish nannakara just eat.

The content of nannakara blue neon implies the right neighborhood. The following types of fish are perfect for this:

If the volumes of the aquarium allow each individual to have its own corner, then the neighborhood will be peaceful and there will be no disagreement.

Small fish in one aquarium with nannakaray planted not worth it. She will eat them. But large predators should not be placed next to them.

Here the effect will be the opposite – all rainbow fish will be eaten.

Breeding neonas nannakara does not cause problems and the difficulties of the aquarist. The whole process occurs naturally, creating additional conditions for this is not required.

Upon reaching adulthood, the individuals are divided into pairs. The process of spawning occurs in the summer.

This is due to the fact that the water in the aquarium warms up to three degrees, which is an ideal temperature for the development of eggs. At another time, it is necessary to artificially raise the temperature of the water by changing to a quarter every week.

The closer the favorable conditions for breeding, the more excited the female nannakaras. It selects the ideal surface for the deposition of caviar.

This may be a flat stone or snag. After the caviar throwing process is over, it gives way to the male.

Then she drives it away and takes care of the eggs on her own.

At the end of the first stage of the incubation period, the female transfers the eggs to a previously prepared hole and leaves them there until the hatching of the fry. All this time, she will fiercely guard the approaches to the children, driving away all those who decide to just get close to them.

She does not even allow a male.

But it happens that both parents take care of the eggs from the moment they spawn. In this case, even “walking” the offspring, they will be together.
