Maintenance of marble at home and care for it

Martial marble can be attributed to such aquarium fish that require a lot of experience and attention during care and maintenance. However, the pet remains one of the most beloved for experienced aquarists.

The fish has a rather lively and curious character, so it can often be seen in home aquariums. And if someone decided to acquire such a pet for the first time, then it is necessary to take into account the peculiarities of its content and reproduction.

Botsiya Marble is a representative of the Botsiev family, which has a curious silver color with unevenly arranged dark stripes.

Marble marble is often also called lohakata. For the first time this fish was described in 1920.

People also call it “Pakistani” or “yo-yo”. This is exactly how a fish was named by an American photographer, since on the side it has a characteristic silver pattern on its body that resembles the Latin letters Y and O.

The marble of marble belongs to the family of loaches, which were once attributed to carps due to the appearance and structure of the body. In the wild, Pakistan lives in quiet backwaters, small rivers and flowing lakes in Pakistan and India.

Fish can not be attributed to rare and endangered species, as it is not considered commercial. On the territory of Russia, this pet has gained popularity quite recently, but in Europe it started to breed Pakistan more than 60 years ago.

It is worth noting that the classification of species of this fish is still quite blurred. For example, individuals from the waters of India are much larger in size and brighter in color than their relatives from Pakistan.

This may lead to the idea that it may be absolutely two different subspecies or even species.

In Pakistani, an elongated body resembles a torpedo shape, the back is arched, the abdomen is straight. Thanks to powerful pectoral fins, the fish easily maneuvers in the water, even in the bottom layers of rivers and lakes.

The Pakistani’s head is small in size, the mouth is below, four pairs of rather sensitive antennae are located nearby.

When kept in an aquarium, the life span of a single individual can be up to 7 years. However, there were cases when the fish lived to 16 years.

The color of the battle is silver, there are also pronounced black patterns, which with age become blue, giving the marble tint to the individuals. If a small fish is experiencing severe stress, then the color becomes pale, and under strong stressful situations, the yo-yo pretends to be dead, dying in the belly-up position.

At the same time the body turns pale to such an extent that the predator has no doubts that a dead fish lies in front of it.

In the wild, the size of the botsie reaches up to 20 cm in length. However, when grown at home in an aquarium, the fish grows only up to 7 cm. There were also cases when the individual grew up to 15 cm in length.

It is for this reason that the fish of this species cannot be classified as small.

Another feature of the fighting is in the existing spikes located under the eyes. The aquarium fish releases these hooks only if it feels the approach of danger or has noticed an attempt to catch it with a net.

therefore need to be very careful, as the lohakata can injure itself by catching spikes on the net.

Boths are rather shy fish, but very curious. The neighbors are almost always friendly, only sometimes they can conflict in the fight for shelter or food in the aquarium.

Therefore, it is important to fill the tank with all sorts of aquatic plants, snags and stones, where the fish can hide. Pakistanis love exploring the scenery, but they rarely sleep in them.

Because of their excessive activity, these fish often fall asleep on the go.

Marble fish are considered more active at night and during twilight, so it can be argued that individuals extremely dislike bright light. During the day, the battle is mainly hiding under the snags, between large stones, and also in dense weeds. The preferred location for these fish – the bottom layer of the reservoir.

Less commonly, individuals in their natural habitat swim in the middle layers.

The homeland of the marble battle is Indian and Pakistani reservoirs.

Pakistani food eats from the bottom. Fish live in flocks, so they are recommended to keep at least 6 of them in an aquarium.

Then the individuals will feel more relaxed. Living alone, the battles behave more aggressively and are almost always in deaf shelters.

Marble in aquariums needs a lot of space. If at home there is at least one pair of these fish, then the volume of the tank should be at least 80 liters. The bottom of the aquarium should be wide.

You will also need to take care of the availability of excellent filtration and aeration. If the aquarium contains more than 5 individuals, then its volume should be at least 130 liters.

The maintenance of marble and the care of it can cause certain difficulties, especially for people inexperienced in this matter. These pets quickly and sharply react to any change in the state of the liquid in the aquarium. Therefore, this type of fish is not recommended for beginners.

Just bought individuals also can not be run in the updated aquarium.

Basic requirements for water:

  • the temperature of the water in the tank should be in the range from 24 to 30 degrees;
  • water should be replaced every week.

If these conditions are not met, the aquarium fish will lose the brightness of their color. Particular attention should also be paid to the selection of suitable soil. The fact is that the fighting very much like to dig into the bottom, looking for food there and clearing their torso from sticky mucus.

In aquarium fish scales are quite tender, so they can quickly damage it, rummaging in rough ground.

Be sure to in the aquarium should contain various aquatic plants. Specialists at the same time recommend planting large-leaf plants, where small pets can hide.

In addition to the flora, in the aquarium it is necessary to place various shelters. At this point, too, should be treated carefully, as individuals can easily injure themselves if there are sharp edges and protrusions nearby.

There should be no narrow passages, as in them the fish can simply get stuck. It is forbidden to organize too bright lighting in an aquarium.

In the aquarium there should be all sorts of artificial grottoes, thickets of plants, snags, as the battle adores secluded places.

As for the features of feeding marble baty, in this regard, they are quite unpretentious. You can feed the fish both live and dry type of feed. But here It is necessary to pay attention to some features:

  • Do not overfeed individuals. Feed must be issued as much as the fish can eat in 3 minutes. In no case after feeding should he remain in the aquarium.
  • In the diet of small pets should be feeding on plant-based. In addition to being very useful for aquarium fish, it can also save aquarium flora from eating marble with its battles.
  • The menu should also be varied. In various types of food contains nutrients and vitamins, the lack of which can adversely affect the health of the fish.
  • Since yo-yo are night fishes, feeding is best done in the evening.
  • Fodder is recommended to pick up those that will quickly and easily descend to the bottom of the aquarium.

The reproduction of marble marble at home is a rather difficult task. Only very experienced aquarists manage to breed these pets.

But still you can rely on some of the chances of a favorable outcome.

In order for fish to happen, it is necessary to organize regular fluctuations in water temperature from 22 to 25 degrees. In addition, boments need to enter injections of hormonal drugs.

Before mating fish need to feed. To do this, it is recommended to use vegetable bait, and live food will have to be reduced to the minimum amount.

Before spawning the bottom of the tank should be covered with a grid. This is done so that females do not eat their brood after throwing eggs.

During mating, the volume of the aquarium should be at least 150 liters. It is also necessary to create a fairly strong current, which is adjusted using the installed filters and aeration.

The marble of martyr loves society, therefore it is advisable to start some fish.

When future parents are moved to a prepared aquarium, the female should start spawning immediately after mating. As a rule, for one litter the number of eggs reaches from 3 to 5 thousand.

Next, it is time to settle out immediately in your aquarium.

White eggs should be removed, as they are unfertilized. Fertilized will be a grayish shade, and over time they should increase to 2 mm in diameter.

The incubation period lasts about 17 hours, after which small larvae form. At this time, it is recommended to sprinkle small dry food around the caviar.

When the age of the fry is equal to three days, it is allowed to add small invertebrate living creatures to the feed.

In the general aquarium fry are placed when their age is about 1 month. By this period, they should grow stronger and grow.

If we talk about the compatibility of marble combat, then these individuals are quite peaceful and are able to get along well with other types of fish. However, you should pay attention to the fact that yo-yo are too active, so they can become a kind of irritant for calmer and slower aquarium pets.

Experts also do not recommend to keep fighting with those fish that are very different from them in size. Pakistanis prefer to spend most of their time at the bottom, so it is necessary to share with them the species that will inhabit other layers of water.

So it will be possible to avoid possible conflicts and the struggle for territory.

Boths are social fish, therefore, they are quite patient with their neighbors. In the pack there is always a leader who can engage in clashes with other aquarium fish.

If there are a lot of different decorative elements and shelters in the tank, then the yo-yo will never bother their neighbors.
