Lyalius aquarium fish: peculiarities of care and breeding

The aquarium fish Lalius belongs to labyrinth aquarium fish. Habitat are the waters of India.

Lyalius is a schooling aquarium fish, quite unpretentious in its content, life in an aquarium is up to 3 years. In length, lyalius grow up to 6 centimeters, have a bright color.

Males are much brighter than females, especially during the spawning period. The body of the lilius is flattened laterally, in the process of evolution, the abdominal fins have become a tactile organ: thin antennae are necessary for small fish to touch in the turbid waters of India.

The natural coloring of the лялиalius is an alternation of red and blue stripes across the body, including on the fins. Coloring in males is much brighter than in females.

At present, breeders have developed very bright and unusual types of Lelius, but all of them differ only in color, the shape of the body of the fish and the conditions of detention are the same for all Lyalius. Among the most popular breeding varieties, coral, neon blue, neon green and neon red lilius are known.

Lyalius neon blue

Lyalius is a heat-loving fish, so it is desirable to maintain the water temperature in the aquarium above 24 degrees, the optimum is 24-28 degrees. The level of water hardness is not significant, but very soft water is required for spawning.

For breathing fish use a labyrinth organ, they swallow air from the surface of the water, so the aquarium is preferably low for them.

Adults lalyusy live most of the life in the upper layers of water, where they breathe, feed, build nests for spawning. In the process of breathing, fish take air from the surface of the water, so it is advisable to keep the aquarium covered so that the cold room air does not penetrate under the lid.

The volume of aquarium for keeping liliusi should be about 10-15 liters of water per couple (male and female).

Use in the aquarium soil is not required. When choosing a background, preference should be given to dark, then bright colors will look very impressive.

In nature, lyalius fish live in reservoirs overgrown with plants, therefore high plants must also be present in the aquarium. In plants, fish hide from annoying neighbors, as plants will serve as a shelter for females from males during the spawning period.

Also desirable are floating plants like Riccia, without them spawning will be impossible.

Fish lyalyus unpretentious in terms of food, she has a good appetite and she eats any dry food with pleasure. Live food like moths will be a real delicacy, especially it is welcomed before spawning so that the fish gain strength.

The main prerequisite for feeding is the choice of floating food, lyalius eat all food from the surface of the water, and from the bottom of the aquarium collect it only if they are very hungry.

For reproduction of alius, a spawning tank with a volume of 15 liters and a height of about 20 centimeters is necessary. In the spawn should be present plants in which the female can hide.

Floating small-leaved plants like riccia are obligatory, from which the male will begin to create a nest.

The male differs from the female in a brighter color, which is very noticeable during spawning. The shape of the dorsal fin has a pointed appearance at the end of the males, while in the females the dorsal fin is more rounded at the end.

The reproduction of the Lilius fish is possible both in the general aquarium and in the spawning ground. Sexual maturity of the fish reaches 6 months of age. To stimulate spawning, you can feed liliusi with live food and make water changes to a softer one, as well as increasing the temperature by 2 degrees.

As a rule, before spawning, fish are divided into pairs. A clear sign of the beginning of spawning is the fuss of the male near the surface of the water and the beginning of the creation of the nest.

After the nest is ready, the female swims up to him and spawns, the eggs light and floats to the surface of the water, from where the male collects and attaches to his nest. If the female is not ready to spawn, then the male will begin to drive her strongly through the aquarium or spawning, in this case, tall and dense plants will be useful, where the female can hide until she prepares for spawning.

In one spawning, the female spawns up to 600 eggs, even if most of the eggs die, the number of fry will still be large.

After the female has swept up the eggs, the female is removed from the spawn, at this time the male becomes very aggressive and fiercely protects the nest with caviar from everyone. At this time, the male can not be disturbed without a reason.

As soon as the fry hatch out of the calf and begin to swim, the male is also removed from the spawning ground.

Olalus fry

Fry of lyalius fish are very small; for the first 10 days they are fed live dust, infusoria, specialized dry food for fry. In extreme cases, give the egg yolk as a temporary feed (spoils water very much). In the first 10 days of food, the fry should be constantly.

After this period, the fry can be fed with nauplii of Artemia and Cyclops.
