Rabidy Corridor (Corydoras rabauti)

Rabauti Corridor is a very active, friendly and curious fish that aquarists love for their simplicity of content.

Habitat: inhabits the rivers of Brazil, Peru and Colombia. It is found in the Amazon and Rio Negra, in the tributaries of which the water is turbid, acidic and saturated with a large number of organic and tannins formed from decomposition of leaves and coagulums.

It also inhabits small lakes and flooded land areas.

Description: the color of young individuals and adult fish is very different. Young catfish are very bright and beautiful with a characteristic spot of emerald color at the tail, which occupies almost a third of the body.

With age, Rabauti catfish acquire a brick-orange, beige or light brown color. At the head begins a wide dark stripe ending at the tail.

All fins are transparent.

The females are larger and have a more rounded line of the abdomen, which is especially noticeable when carrying the roe.

Maximum size Rabo corridor – 5.5 cm

Rabauti Corridor is most often confused with Zigatus Corridor. The latter are much larger fish, growing to about 7 cm.

The difference is noticeably looking at the dark line along the upper body, which ends at the base of the caudal fin. In S. rabauti, it intersects both rows of the body plates, whereas in S. zygatus it ends in the upper plate at the junction between the two rows.

Arrangement and parameters of the aquarium: Catfish catfish and can comfortably exist only in a group of 8 or more individuals. For such a number of fish, an aquarium of size 45x30x30 cm 40-50 liters is enough. Soil like all Corey need soft to prevent damage to the gentle antennae needed to find food.

The presence of a large number of plants allows corridors to feel safe, but they need to be planted so that there is free space at the bottom, where Rabawti spend all their time. Shelters in the form of grottoes, caves, coconut shells, earthen pots, shards and snags are needed.

It is necessary to provide the fish access to the surface of the water, where they periodically rise to take a sip of air.

Water parameters: 23-26 ° C, from 5.5 to 7.2, dGH to 12.

Filtration aeration is desirable, and one-third weekly water changes are carried out.

Rabidy Corridras (Corydoras rabauti) peaceful fish who prefer to stay at the bottom. Compatible with any non-aggressive and medium-sized species.

Excellent neighbors will be the iris, rasborov, haracin, dwarf cichlids, tetras, labyrinth and other types of small catfish.

Nutrition: in nature, the diet of catfish Rabauti consists of plant foods and small invertebrates. In the aquarium take any kind of feed.

Sinking feed for bottom fish in the form of tablets and pellets is best suited. Periodically, you can feed with frozen and live feed: pipemaker, bloodworm, Artemia and Daphnia.

Reproduction: for breeding Rabi catfish will need a small spawning 20 liters. The presence of soil is not necessary, but you can use fine sand.

It is necessary to close the filter with a sponge if it is mechanical, so that the fry will not be sucked into it, but it is possible to use an airlift (air) filter. From plants fit several bushes of Javanese moss.

spawning example for corridors

Water parameters in the spawning aquarium: 24-25 ° С, pH 6.5, dGH up to 6.

In the prespawning period, the producers should eat a varied diet, and when the female has a belly to start, they should begin to replace about 50-70% of water daily, which stimulates spawning. Ready-to-spawn males show increased activity in pursuit of the female.

It is necessary to place producers in the spawning farm in the evening in proportion to one female 3-5 males. Usually fish spawn in the morning in the most well-lit place, often on the side windows.

At one time, the female lays 2-4 eggs, and in total is able to lay up to 120 small eggs, whose diameter does not exceed 2 mm.

fry of Rabo corridor 1 and 14 days

Producers after spawning immediately settle out, as the adult fish destroy the eggs, and the temperature in the spawn rises by 2-3 degrees. The addition of methylene blue to water prevents fungal caviar damage.

You can run in the spawning freshwater shrimp, which eat spoiled eggs, leaving healthy.

fry of Rabo corridor 2 and 4 weeks

The larvae hatch for 3-5 days and feed from yolk sacs for 1 day. Then you need to feed the fry with micro-cherries and nauplii of artemia.

adolescents Rabo corridor 6 weeks and 2 months

Color characteristic of adult fish fry acquire by the age of 8-10 weeks.
